It's a very reactionary bunch. They scared Mularkey out of town and helped get DJ fired in the middle of a season....not to mention numerous other things. Potential coaches don't forget things like this and the inner circle of coaches is small. I'm sure the word is that it's a hardcore fan base, but when things go bad, the whole city and organization can do some crazy, unpredictable things. Before Billick came in, the last time the city of Baltimore celebrated a SB parade was 12 years before the Colts abandoned the city, and they abandoned the city in 1984! Folks, that makes a total of 29 years between SB wins, and the second one was with the re-named stolen Cleveland Browns, for Gods' sake! Come on, we are all Bills' fans out here. If Levy's crew could have somehow won just ONE of those 4 SB's, Marv would be forever considered a Saint in Western New York. If another team thought about hiring him at 90 freakin' years old we would have congratulated them on a wise choice! It seems that the only big problem the Browns...er...I mean Ravens had during Billick's run was QB. Well, didn't the Ravens have scouts and a GM working with Billick? Why was he blamed completely for trying to turn Boller into a real NFL starter? Why didn't Ozzie and his guys draft another QB or two to compete with poor Kyle? Sorry, as much as I enjoyed reading your excellent take on the Bills' coaching search, I cannot see how such a pathetic, lost organization like our beloved Bills can simply ignore a coach who won a SB ring 10 years ago. Look at all the chances Marty Sr, Norv Turner, Wade Phillips & DJ got and keep getting, and those coaches have won squat! I think its' a shame the Bills have not at least invited Billick in for that interview. He had about as much to do with winning that Super Bowl as Trent Dilfer did as the QB. Trent Dilfer was not re-signed the following year for a reason. He wasn't any good. Does he have a SB ring, yes. Do (did) you want him as your QB...hell no. Billick rode the coat tails of arguably the best defense to ever play the game. They had a stretch of 5 games in which the team did not score an offensive TD and they still won the Super Bowl. This coming from a guy that was an Offensive specialist. The cascade of decisions made by the executives of an NFL team are so ridiculous that ... "the whole city" should be blamed. Hmm. But googling this guy, maybe it is not so crazy. Cowher wanted him to follow him as head coach when he left Pittsburgh. Apparently when Cowher was putting together a staff recently, he asked Gailey to be his OC. Gailey was praised for his work in KC with Tyler Thigpen. Fans in KC were pis$ed when Haley fired him last year. He is generally regarded as a bright and innovative offensive mind. He has several years of head coaching experience and consistently won. Made the playoffs both years with the Cowboys. Other than the media saying someone is good or bad, I don't know enough to judge. I guess I'd rather have a hot name like Frazier or Grimm, but I have no basis to know how this will turn out. He is an executive again, and out of any football role by choice, because he knows the organization needed a football guy to improve the team so he has something he can market. He makes RW a better owner, notwithstanding what you may believe. you are very gullible. Brandon is still very much at the helm of the football operations. He has grasp of his dream job. He isnt going to demote himself. The whole "hiring" of the football guy was a marketing move, but a hollow one. It is an effective way for Russ and co to retain control.... as it appeases those fans who have a little imagination and faith. It was during the Nix press conference. I know they tried to appease everybody by saying that they wanted a football guy/not a marketing guy, etc... But Wilson's senility spilled out the truth in a very telling moment. Here it is.
