San Jose Bills Fan Posted November 28, 2009 Share Posted November 28, 2009 I'm a Sabres fan but I have a few friends that are diehard Bruins fans...even though they're from Depew. Go figure. Anyways, the Bruins won Stanley Cups in 1970 and 1972. Jeremy Jacobs bought the team in 1975. The Bruins fans I know revile Jacobs because in spite of operating in the 10th largest metropolitan area in the U.S., Jacobs has been a spendthrift and has more often than not, declined to open the coffers to bring the city a championship. The Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots have all recently won championships for Boston but Jacobs through his actions seems indifferent to that goal. In Boston and among Bruins fans he has a well-deserved reputation as an owner who is only interested in profit and nothing else. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Because you don't like the guy we're supposed to prefer the Bills leave town? Oh, I forgot, there are so many other successful DICKS out there who can step in to help save the team. I'd be even less enthused if they were playing in LA or any other town. Like, no enthusiasm, at all. You also must have ZERO sense of humor...as I was cracking a joke (lame? probably!) in the last sentence, referring to Dick Jauron! He would have to try really hard, not to make a profit as an NFL owner, no matter what market. You can't really say the same about the NHL, which as much as I, and most here, love it, has been on life support for the last 25 years or so. I think being that he is a Buffalonian, who still operates in Buffalo, is a huge difference, than a guy who purchased a franchise in another city (Boston) as an investment. The fact that he is still has a large amount of his fortunes invested in WNY tells me that he he realizes the importance of keeping the franchise in the area. It is likely that any owner who were to own the Bills is not going to be able to spend as freely as a Jerry Jones, or Dan Snyder type, who have unlimited sources of potential revenue. The Ralph Wilson fan club around here, who insist that he isn't cheap (he has been at key times in this franchise history) can take heart...you can be cheap, and still manage to field a competitive team. If your team is competitive, anything can happen. I think that hope, that having a competitive team, would be enough for most of us. An owner can be frugal, as long as he makes the right decisions. Mr Wilson has made one blundering move after another, which is how we got to this point... I dunno, Jeremy Jacobs doesn't sound like the worst option to me...even if the only things he can bring to the table are just insurance that the franchise stays in WNY, and a new stadium... You bring back memories of a local bus company mogul offering to build a domed stadium. Ralph didn't want it because he wanted the community to pay for it so he could have exclusive use of it. He is smart, in that they traded thorton and got BETTER. and, since they have implemented a salary cap his teams have always be competitive and he spends to the limit. his "cheap" reputation came in the mid 90s when no one went to bruins games and he wasn't going to pump money into a product that no one was supporting. thats called intelligence. he is most likely jim kellys "source." thats been my thinking for awhile. either that or one of the riches. jacobs would own them AND still get revenue sharing, of which he didnt have in Boston, as well as no stadium debt. I think he'd be just suitable ot own the bills. if toronto ticket sales keep sucking i think its plausible we dont need to worry about moving there... they would be stupid to even ask us to play more games there. If you now have seats on the 50 Yd line, in a new Stadium they will be on the 20 Yd line up about 30 rows in the new Stadium & will cost 2-3 times more money. Why?Because making the playoffs in the NHL is a joke to begin with. In the NHL, you have 15 teams vying for 8 spots. That means each team has better than a 50% chance of making the playoffs. In the NFL, you have 16 teams vying for 6 spots. That means each team has about 38% chance of making the playoffs. And the playoff structure of Major League Baseball makes the NFL look like a joke. We as Bills fans who are also Sabres fans should love him for that alone. He's not from Boston, so he might not care about them winning it all, just the bottom line. At the moment he would have no stadium debt, but how long will that last? Plus, unless he pays cash for the team, he will have debt to pay for the team.
