Brandon Beane on Collinsworth’s podcast — worth a listen
BrooklynBills replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They got in a little bit of trouble when Gruden was on and they were all talking about the Sherman would want to play next year. I wonder if he's just being extra cautious because of the blowback. -

Obviously, the money would have to work, but Sherman is a fit for the Bills, but not necessarily in a pure #2 CB fix IMO. I think you'd still want to get Dane Jackson on the field somehow, but also not assume that he is an every down player yet. And I think you would be trying to add an athletic CB in the draft either with that late 1st or in the 2nd round. But Sherman still plays the game very well and is still elite in his thinking of the game. And I think he could also transition to safety easily and he has stated his willingness to do so which would allow us to play more 3 safety coverage looks with poyer or Hyde in a lurker role. -
Chiefs 19m Over Salary Cap in 2021
BrooklynBills replied to JMF2006's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stop this. Just a quick glance at their cap situation and I get them $20 mil under in 3 moves. They have a huge benefit in that their big money guys are either expendable (OTs Fisher or Schwartz) or bonafide studs that they would have no problem restructuring to save money (DL Jones, DL Clark, S Matheiu) -

I get the idea that you don't want to kick any dead money into future years but I think the extra cap savings is a bit justified in these cases based solely on the amount of money they would be saving and how up against the cap the team is currently. Lots of teams are going to up against the cap this offseason and I anticipate some very good players coming available that otherwise wouldn't and I'm hoping we try to take advantage of that in some way. Bills are at about 1-2 mil under next years cap currently and get all the way to ~$40 mil under just in reasonable cuts alone and not even taking into consideration what they will save in possible restructures/extensions. I would absolutely be trying to get Diggs signed to some kind of restructure that adds a few extra years and I would be doing the same on a smaller scale with Beasley. -

I agree with almost all of your choices. I think some of your numbers are a bit off though which would make some of these decisions a bit easier. Mitch Morse is a cap savings of 7.6 mil if designated a June 1 cut. Addison is a cap savings of 8.2 of designated as a June 1. IMO those are tough but no brainier cuts, especially factoring in age and injury history. Jefferson and Butler both have essentially no dead money if cut and I think they were essentially here as 1 year stop gaps. Outside edge runs were an issue so i don't see how keeping Addison is justified. Milano at that money is not worth it. He was out most of the year and the defense adjusted. He was healthy in the colts game and the KC game and was not a major factor. For comparison, Tyran Matheiu signed for $13 mil avg 2 years ago. You can better spend the money IMO. The scheme is sound. We need to find defensive players that can elevate above the scheme at times and take over and that will probably mean having to go after some big fish in FA. You simply can't pay every defender a 2nd contract and I'd have no problem running out Dodson and Edmunds at LB if meant using money to find a difference maker at DT or DE. -
I'm talking less of a space eater type and more of a guy who can get a consistent push up the middle in the passing game. Physical freak type athlete/can win one on ones consistently. Star is more of NT at this point in his career

Daboll would have been hired by the Chargers if he wanted the job. Heard through the grapevine(Buffalo is really a small town/everybody knows somebody), that he did not like the overall organization/ownership commitment(makes some sense - the Spanos family is pretty much like the Brown family in CIN or like Ralph was and it wouldn't be the first time that the Chargers ownership was seen as an issue). I think they just knew at this point that they don't have the guys (OL/RBs) to really count on that part of the offense. Interior OL needs a overhaul IMO. No true FB which I think is key to the running game that Daboll has used.

I think I agree with alot of these points. As good as the year was, I think the roster has alot of holes still and they kind of played a bit ahead of schedule IMO. I think, barring a lucky break in somehow getting CLE in the AFC title game(because I think we could have beaten them), losing to the Chiefs here is about the proper ceiling for this team. I'm not a great strategy/XsOs guy, but it definitely seems like Edmunds gets picked on alot. I'll be interested to see what the David and White look like against KC and it might give us a glimpse into what we need at the position. I think the Bills play nickel so much (which is fine) that the 2 off ball LBs have somewhat interchangeable roles. I like MIlano but it almost feels like Edmunds could do alot of the things that Milano can and the answer might be finding another LBer that is comfortable playing in space in the middle of the field. TEs were a problem all year and I think that has a lot to do with having a size/speed answer with the 3rd LBer/nickel CB. For years in CAR, they utilized Thomas Davis as a hybrid LB/S and we just don't have that player. I think this a big need defensively and the Bills know it based on their interest in Kyle Dugger in last years draft. DL needs a physical stud at DT. I like Oliver but he is an undersized player and I think we saw what a guy who can really push the pocket can do for the defense in what Jones just did to our OL in this past game. We seem to really have solid guys all across the defense but no truly elite players who can tilt the game and I think in big games those players prove to be pretty important. As far as Spagnolo, he had a really rough go of it in one stint as a HC and the league might just view him as a great DC at this point.

Report: Daboll will remain with Bills in 2021
BrooklynBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Heard through the grapevine that he wasn't interested in the LA job (ownership/facilities/overall commitment). Makes some sense. Herbert aside, no one would consider them a top tier organization or ownership group. Plus, you gotta play Mahomes twice a year. Don't know about the other jobs but he's a young successful offensive coach. Gase got 2 jobs. Mcdaniels is getting another chance. He can ride this season to a better overall job than what's available IMO right now. Just hold serve with the offense and he'll be in the coaching carousel for a while. Frazier, on the hand, might not get another shot and if he wants to be a HC probably can't pass up the Houston job if offered. -

Did McKenzie play any snaps today??
BrooklynBills replied to Richmond_Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
👆 This right here. Combined with their speed at the 2nd level, we just weren't going to try to run wide at all. They tried once on the QB sweep (maybe because they thought they had a blocking advantage?) and it was blown up. They didn't use much motion at all. Again i think this is a bit by design because the Colts D will actually adjust their defense to motion which will tell lies about their own coverage, if that makes sense. This was a game where Allen was going to have to read the coverage post snap alot to see if the colts stayed in their base cover 2 or were in something else. -
Chris Mortenson has been in on Josh Allen scoops and exclusives since he was drafted. Definitely think he has a direct line to Allen or someone close to him for info. That said, if he's an Allen source then they could also be using him to put out misinformation and the Bills, since McDermott has been here, definitely play the misinformation game.

Makes alot of sense. He interviewed last year so he has a list of coaches.
-
I think Dorsey is probably the favorite. Hall has only been a position coach for a season or two. As far as guys Daboll would take: the only guy that has a real tie to him is Ryan Wendell. I'd imagine Daboll would be the playcaller, so he's probably going to be looking for teacher types and guys he has history with to start and maybe a previous HC. Lots of former Pats coaches will be out there with the firings in Houston and Detroit so I think those would be obvious targets for him.

If Chargers job opens up and they don't clean house with Telesco also (they shouldn't - he's drafted pretty well including QB), i believe Telesco and Daboll know each other very well and could fast track the interview for him to catch up to other candidates in 2 weeks if Bills make it that far. Also, i think that is a great fit for him personality wise. Chargers are always going to be 2nd fiddle to Rams market wise in LA so going there, he doesn't have any pressure to be a dynamic personality that LA usually covets. This is a guy who spent alot of time with Saban and Belichek. I think he'll be selective in his job search. Bills offense is mostly young and locked up. He can ride this wave for a couple cycles IMO

This is soooo staged. Both of their rankings this week are ridiculous in both directions. It is also great entertainment -

Engram is young and can be re-signed. Tomlinson too. Draft picks aren't too much to give up for guys who could be long term solutions. -
Chris Simms on Bills-Patriots
BrooklynBills replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chris Simms has been a Bills cheerleader in the national media since last season. Loves Allen. Loves the coaching staff. The team is playing poorly, especially on defense. He can't overlook that. He'd lose whatever credibility he has. We aren't playing well. No one in the national media is going to care until we beat a good team or crush a team we are clearly better than (had opportunities the past 2 weeks and didn't pass the eye test). Allen's play the first 4 weeks got alot of eyeballs on the Bills and then played 2 national televised games where they got embarrassed, barely beat the Jets, and were on their way to getting pushed down the field against NE on the final drive to lose that game until Cam fumbled. Don't forget most people thought we stole the Rams game on that sketchy DPI(i think it was the right call). It is what it is -
Is he better than Taron Johnson as a nickel corner? Yep. He's good against the run and was very good for the Raiders last year. Fits the defense and is only 25. I don't see how people are against this move. This guy didn't forget how to play. Really talented players are looking like garbage on that Dallas defense. Coaching matters.
