Still waiting on a response Coach... In regards to the pressure I saw on Sunday, I saw the Bills get 2 sacks, made Brady either throw the ball away or make some bad plays on occasion. In regards why I started this thread, which Chimp has reinforced my point, with all the investments we've seen on the defensive front 7, this was nowhere near the amount of pressure that we should of had against Brady. Mario Williams is the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, with that kind of money, you should expect JJ Watt type of production from him (sacks, pressures, swatting the ball away) which we didn't see from him on Sunday. Dareus was selected 3rd overall to shore up the run game and destroy the O-lines, while he made a few tackles and had a pass knocked down, he didn't get any pressure and I saw him get thrown on his azz by a Pats O-lineman. We traded for Jerry Hughes and the only thing he did was get 2 offsides penalties. Alex Carrington, a 3rd round draft pick, looked like the 2nd coming of Chris Kelsay (over pursuit, having to circle around, not getting close to the QB). Kyle Williams had a sack and a few tackles, so he had a good (but not great) game. Did anyone notice Manny Lawson, because I sure as hell didn't. In regards to what "pressure" is on the QB, my definition of it is, sacking the QB, forcing him to throw it either: away; too quickly; making a bad-decision, hitting the QB's throwing arm (or the ball), getting arms, hands & bodies in the QB's throwing lanes and altering the direction of the pass, hitting the QB while he is in throwing motion which causes a fumble. What I saw on Sunday was 2 sacks, the Bills forced Brady into some throws where he had to throw it away, and hitting Brady a second too late after Brady delivered the ball which went for a completion. I didn't see any tipped balls, Brady getting hit in the arm/hand which changed the direction of the ball, or got hit which caused a fumble. While that is an improvement over what we've seen from the Bills over the past 10 years, that was still nowhere near enough, especially when you consider what the Bills invested in the D-line and how hyped up this line has been talked up about since last year.

I already stated that the post was in response to Big Cat's post of him comparing it to last year's season opener (which was the reason I looked up the stats and compared). You then posted this: You also compared the points comparison as well, but you don't get it, so that's fine, so keep rambling on...
-
Why don't you enlighten me then, Coach...
-
Thank you Chimp!! That wrapped up all my points on this thread!

In post #28, Big Cat mentioned week one. Then, you compared the amount of points the 2012 Jets (42 (actually, it was 48)) scored to the 2013 Patriots, that's a bad comparison. So using that logic, you are comparing the teams the Bills played in each week of last year? Using your logic, the Bills played the Chiefs in Week 2 last year and won 35, 17. Continuing with your logic, If the Bills do worse against Carolina, then does mean the team has regressed? http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2012/REG/Bills You made a bad comparison which cannot be answered. A better comparison would have been the two games played against the Pats last year, which that in itself is hard to do because of the transition the Pats went through (Welker gone, Gronk hurt, the Hernandez situation, new players, injuries (which can be said about the Bills as well), etc...) I still think the Pats are going to win the AFC East, but they are not the powerhouse that they were last year. Did the Bills get more pressure than usual on Brady this past Sunday...absolutely! When you consider how pathetic the Bills pass rush has been over the past 10 years, the Bills defense did look great compared to that. But, with all of the investments the team made to bolster the D-line and shut down the opposing offense, they fell short as Brady was still able to complete 29 passes for 288 yards, and the Pats won again.

It's been fun everyone! Have a good night. In all seriousness, please be safe tomorrow and remember all of those that lost their lives 12 ago.

First, stay away from the dark side of the force. Second, carry water, lots of water...witches hate water!
-
This is supposedly the best D-line in the league, and the D-line still didn't get the job done. Brady still threw for 270 yards, 2 TDs and brought the Pats in FG position to win the game. It's okay though, be happy with your moral victory

Final score is the only thing that matters, and the Bills defense got lucky the Pats receivers dropped a lot of passes, otherwise the game wouldn't have been close. If the Pats destroy the Bills in their second matchup, I definitely plan on bringing up this thread again just so I can rub it in and tell everyone "I told you so." If the Bills by some chance beat the Pats, and the Bills defense plays lights out, then I will eat a big bowl of crow...fair enough?! And the Jets comparison was in response to a couple of posters that kept comparing Sundays game to last years season opener, which I've already stated a few times already.

So, I did not directly respond to you, I'm so very sorry (sarcasm!) Someone else mentioned week 1 from last year, so I responded to that. In post #125, Bob Chalmers replied from post #29. I can't answer your question because you are comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing the 2012 Jets to the 2013 Patriots. So, you basically saying Mark Sanchez last year was comparable to Tom Brady this year, and the 2012 Jets are comparable to the 2013 Patriots. Just because the Bills played the Jets in Week 1 last year doesn't mean you can use them as a measuring stick to go off of for week 1 this year. See the post I just responded to. Strong Pats O?! Maybe last year, but not this year!
-
I did respond, just scroll through the pages (and even on this page) and you'll see that I responded, but apparently you're too lazy to do that (see posts #29 and #125). Besides that, are you seriously comparing the Jets offense to the Patriots offense?!

I was a kid when Kelly played and you can tell he was going to be a very special player. Hopefully the Bills got it right with Manuel, because its been painful watching all the Bills QB's since Kelly retired. The preseason game against the Redskins and this past weekends game has given me some serious concerns (again) about our run defense.

Sorry Biscuit, my Bills kool aid ran out last year, and the effects have worn off. I have to see results in the form of wins. If the Bills go 8-8 or better this year, then I'll go restock my shelves with Bills kool-aid. In regards to the defense this year, I think they will have success of getting pressure on the QB with teams that have average to below average O-lines. Teams that have above average to great O-lines, the Bills will have a hard time getting pressure on. Teams that have a great run game will continue to have great success against the Bills (especially up the middle of the field).

If you would have read the post I responded to, you would have saw that a couple of people on here stated about how much better the Bills looked on Sunday, compared to Week 1 last year in 2012. The Pats RB (Ridley?) gave the Bills a gift and fumbled the ball, no one touched him...how often does that happen? Said it before, and I'll say it again, it was a good, heads up play by Searcy to pick it up, avoid being touched by the RB (so he wasn't downed by contact) and took it in for a TD. Was there pressure on Brady that forced him into some bad throws...absolutely, there's no denying it, but how many of Brady's passes were dropped, that normally wouldn't have been, as well as the bad routes the Pats receivers made which caused a lot of incompletions? Someone posted on article on here about how the Bills have the best D-line in the league. Well, with having the quote, unquote best D-line in the league, I thought they didn't get nowhere near the amount of pressure to shut down Brady as he still beat the Bills...again for the 21st time. I saw a Bills defense that hung with there with a Patriots offense that was a shell of it's old self.
-
Okay, I get it, last year the Bills gave up 52 and 37 points in the 2 games played with the Pats, so giving up 23 points is an improvement for the defense and a moral victory a lot of fans such as yourself. Whatever floats your boat.
-
Nope, that's your opinion. If the Bills get blown out this year, what's the excuse going to be then?

Both the offense and defense can share the blame. You win as a team and lose as a team. Sure the offense could have done more to score points, but, both the offense and defense had way too many penalties as well. There were 10 penalties for 75 yards, some of which gave NE another chance on offense (in which the Bills would have had a stop on 3rd down) or the first down...that is not my definition of playing "great." IMO, these stats show the defense did not do "great": "26th in game stats (431 yards): http://www.nfl.com/s...=1&d-447263-n=1 30th against the rush (158 yards) And, the most important stat (and the only one that really matters): 0-1 and 4th in the AFC East: http://www.nfl.com/standings " IMO, these stats show the defense did not do "great": "26th in game stats (431 yards): http://www.nfl.com/s...=1&d-447263-n=1 30th against the rush (158 yards) And, the most important stat (and the only one that really matters): 0-1 and 4th in the AFC East: http://www.nfl.com/standings " The Bills blew it on both sides of the ball...period. IMO, this defense is still suspect.
-
I get your point, but when you lose a game, you didn't do "great."
-
These guys played hurt, but Byrd won't play until he's 100% Good luck with trying to be the highest paid safety in the league!
-
On paper our defense looks good, but too bad the game isn't played on paper. Here's what I found: 26th in game stats (431 yards): http://www.nfl.com/s...=1&d-447263-n=1 30th against the rush (158 yards) And, the most important stat (and the only one that really matters): 0-1 and 4th in the AFC East: http://www.nfl.com/standings

This is the first year I haven't made my way up to Buffalo for a game, or bought any Bills merchandise.
-
Keep drinking the kool-aid...Russ & Ralph are counting on you... Chuck Schick: "Did you see we almost beat the Patriots?! That was so freakin' awesome man!! We'll get them next time for sure!!"
-
Reminds me of when we had Ted Washington & Pat Williams (and Sam Adams & Pat Williams). Dareus has been a disappointment so far.
-
Point is, Belichek and Brady are very smart and do very well at adjusting and making the right changes (pains me to say that), as the stats show. I'll give the defense some credit, I saw improvements in some areas, but weaknesses in other areas still. The game was there for the taking and the Bills blew it. Both the offense and defense should share the blame for the loss. There are no moral victories for getting close or doing well against a tough opponent in professional sports.
