Should the Bills get new DT's in the offseason?
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some people are reacting to this subject similar to the Lee Evans topic years back on if he was a #1 WR and if his skills were declining. People can try and live in denial that KW and Dareus weren't playing against the Redskins in the 3rd preseason game, but they were...imagine how bad the stats would have been if the Bills played against a healthy RGIII and he ran a few option plays in the first half, instead of playing against 3rd and 4th string QB's. -

Both KW & Dareus played, check the nfl link I posted in the thread. The Bills starting defense got shredded by a 3rd & 4th string QB, and the Redskins RB's ran wild on them as well. -

Should the Bills get new DT's in the offseason?

Hallelujah! Amen! After seeing the Bills get shredded on the ground against the Skins in the 3rd preseason game, minus their star running QB [RGIII], you have to start questioning if the Bills have the right players at DT. -
I know this going to be unpopular to say, but if Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus can't get it done up front this season, then it's time the Bills look to replace those guys next season. I like both players, but the run defense has been atrocious for years now and it needs to be fixed. In the preseason, the Bills got shredded on the ground by the Redskins who were without RGIII. Last year, the run defense ranked 31st giving up 145.8 YPG; 2011: 28th with 139.0 YPG; and 2010: 32nd giving up 169.8 YPG.

We may not blitz Brady on Sunday

I hope you're right. Wannstedt tried running a 20 year old defense that didn't work, and he had no answers whatsoever to fix it. -

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2013082400/2013/PRE3/bills@redskins#menu=highlights&tab=analyze&analyze=boxscore Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus did play and are on the stat sheet. In regards to Mario, I forget if he played or not as I didn't see his name listed on the stat sheet. Still, you have to be concerned about the Bills run D this year. I know this going to be unpopular to say, but if Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus can't get it done up front this season, then it's time the Bills look to replace those guys next season. I like both players, but the run defense has been atrocious for years now and it needs to be fixed. -

The Bills run defense has yet to prove itself as they were shredded last year against the Pats and this preseason vs the Redskins. So if the Bills can't stop the run, then Brady doesn't have to worry about throwing it as much. -

Since 2000, the Bills beat the Pats 3 times, the first time was in 2000 when Drew Bledsoe was the Pats QB, and you got the other 2. I gringe whenever I see Brady's win/loss record against the Bills (20-2). -

Not only were the Bills unable to generate anything on offense, the defense was not able to have 1 stop the entire game as the Pats went for it on every fourth down (when they were in FG territory) and scored a TD on all their offensive possessions. Worst game I ever attended/saw as a Bills fan. -

I agree! I want to see the Bills do that to the Pats in Foxboro. -

In 2001, the Bills had Robosack Johnson and AVP, I hope you're not referring to either one of those guys?! Flutie's last year in Buffalo was in 2000. In regards to Fitz, the coaching staff should have left his throwing mechanics alone as they did more harm than good. I hope Pettine is plugging the gashing wounds because the defense has been atrocious over the last 3 years, and in the Redskins preseason game this year. -

I hope so, it would be great to start racking up some wins against Brady before he retires, that way he can have more than just the Buffalo hotels to b*tch about! -

The last Bills QB to beat the Pats was Drew Bledsoe in 2003 (31-0). Fitz is a backup at best. I liked Fitz and wanted him to succeed, but he was very inaccurate and inconsistent beyond 15 yards. -

Trust me, it was painful adding up all the stats. It would be great if we could start to see the stats (more importantly, wins) start to lean more towards the Bills. -

Thanks Captain Obvious! -
Since 2000, the Buffalo Bills win/loss record against the Patriots has been 3-23…Ouch!!! Since the start of the millennium, the Bills have faced three New England Quarterbacks: Drew Bledsoe, Tom Brady and Matt Cassel, while the Patriots faced the following Bills Quarterbacks: Doug Flutie, Rob "Robosack" Johnson, Alex "The Doughboy" Van Pelt, Drew Bledsoe, Kelly Holcomb, JP Losman, Trent "Captain Checkdown" Edwards, and Ryan "The Amish Popgun" Fitzpatrick. The Bills were 1-1 against Bledsoe in 2000, before Tom Brady took over as the Patriots starting QB in 2001. Since Tom Brady took over, he has amassed a 20-2 record against the Buffalo Bills, throwing for 52 TD's and 17 INT's in that timeframe. Even Matt Cassel went 2-0 against the Bills in 2008 while Tom Brady suffered a season ending knee injury in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs. In the 26 games played since 2000 between the Bills and Patriots, the Patriots have had greater success against the Bills in their second divisional matchup of the year 10 out of 13 times. Let's take a look at the scores of the first divisional games of the year against the Patriots since 2000: · BUF 16 – NE 13 (Bledsoe) (Home) · NE 21 (Home) – BUF 11 · NE 38 – BUF 7 (Home) · BUF 31 (Home) – NE 0 · NE 31 – BUF 17 (Home) · NE 21 (Home) – BUF 16 · NE 19 (Home) – BUF 17 · NE 38 (Home) – BUF 7 · NE 20 (Cassel) (Home) – BUF 10 · NE 25 (Home) – BUF 24 · NE 38 (Home) – BUF 30 · BUF 34 (Home) – NE 31 · NE 52 – BUF 28 (Home) To add it all up, the Patriots have outscored the Bills 347-242 (105 point difference). If you take out the two games Brady didn't play against the Bills, the Patriots still outscored the Bills 314-216 (98 point difference). Now here's where it gets ugly folks, the scores of the second divisional games against the Patriots: · NE 13 (Bledsoe) – BUF 10 (Home) · NE 12 –BUF 9 (Home) · NE 27 (Home) – BUF 17 · NE 31 (Home) – BUF 0 · NE 29 (Home) – BUF 6 · NE 35 – BUF 7 (Home) · NE 28 – BUF 6 (Home) · NE 56 – BUF 10 (Home) · NE 13 (Cassel) – BUF 0 (Home) · NE 17 – BUF 10 (Home) · NE 34 – BUF 3 (Home) · NE 49 (Home) – BUF 21 · NE 37 (Home) – BUF 31 To add it all up, the Patriots have outscored the Bills 381 – 130 (251 point difference) in the second divisional matchup since 2000. Take away the two games Brady did not play in against the Bills, the Patriots outscored the Bills 355 – 120 (235 point difference). In the 26 games played since 2000, the Patriots have outscored the Bills 728 – 372 (a 356 point difference). In the words of the late Ronnie James Dio: "LOOK OUT!" By looking at the scores, it's painfully obvious that the Bills have played better against the Patriots in their first divisional matchup of the year. What also confirms that even further, is that the Bills are 3-10 against the Patriots in the first divisional matchup of the year, vice 0-13 in their second divisional matchup of the year. The last time the Bills beat the Patriots in their second divisional matchup of the year, was on December 26, 1999, when the Bills (led by Doug Flutie) defeated the Patriots (led by Drew Bledsoe) 13-10 in overtime. So, if the Bills have any chance of beating the Patriots in 2013, their best chance will come this Sunday at 1:pm.

Did the starters of the Bills Superbowl teams actually look like crap, or was it the backups? There's a big difference when the your starters look horrible (like the current Bills did on Saturday) vs your backups on a good team.
