How long does Pettine stay with us?
Jerry Jabber replied to White Linen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's your opinion. This conversation was talked about last year with Dave Wannstedt and looked how things turned out. After 13 years of missing the playoffs, I'm not predicting or assuming anything with this team. Some people (like yourself) are assuming Pettine will lead the Bills defense out of the abyss they have been in for years. We need to see Pettine prove it in Buffalo. Will Pettine come up with a good game plan every week? Will he put the right players in the right places? How well will Pettine make adjustments throughout the game. Once a team figures out the Bills weaknesses on defense, will Pettine be able to counter effectively? Those are the questions that should be answered first before we say he'll bolt for a HC position. -
How long does Pettine stay with us?

I think the tooting of Pettine's horn is very premature. The defense hasn't even play a down under Pettine, so let's wait and see how the Defense performs over the course of the season before recommending he should be a HC in the league (Dave Wannstedt ring a bell?) -

This is something you would expect to see in a horror, not in real life: http://news.yahoo.com/california-landlords-hell-heading-jail-menacing-tenants-194650343--abc-news-topstories.html "The landlords' actions ranged from cutting holes in the floor of one victim's living room with a power saw while he was inside the apartment to soaking victims' beds, clothes and electronics with ammonia, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office." "The actions of these defendants are so outlandish and brazen that it sounds like the plot line of a horror movie," district attorney George Gascon said in a statement. "This case shows you you cannot flee this country and avoid the consequences of your actions. These defendants will be held fully accountable for their crimes."

Nope, it will change to figisstillanobxiousa-hole.com Exactly.

If I wanted to talk about it in the Aaron Hernandez thread I would have posted it there. It makes no sense, if I'm having a conversation on a thread, what are we suppose to say to each other, well we can't talk about that here, we have to go to another thread and bounce all around trying to keep track of a conversation. It's one thing if we were on the stadium wall, but we're in the "off the wall" forum.

What should have been validated is how many times this has happened to a team in the NFL, say over the past 10 years, 15 years, 20 years (however long "bye" weeks have been around). If there is some statisical proof that this has happened to the Bills significantly higher than any other team in the NFL, then Chris Brown has a valid complaint. If this is just an anomaly, then the complaint is not valid. If it continues to happen, then Brown has a valid complaint. Without previous statistical data to back up Brown's claim, his complaint is invalid.

They were transferred to the Aaron Hernandez thread (not sure why?)

I agree. I guess it's everyone else's fault for all the years of bad management decisions, bad drafts, bad player signings, not getting a franchise QB, etc...

There needs to be more analysis done to determine how many teams have been getting a raw deal in regards to the schedule, home games after Thanksgiving, etc... and for how long it's been going on. At the moment, 2 years in a row doesn't seem like much to complain about, but if it continually happens year after year, then there definitely is a problem,.
-
Who the hell wants to pay money to sit at an NFL stadium (which is not cheap these days) to watch a team after Thanksgiving when you know they have no chance of making the playoffs at that point! It doesn't matter if you're at the Ralph or in a domed stadium, you're not going to sell out a stadium if your team is doing terrible (like the Bills have been for the past 13 years) and has no chance at making the playoffs.

Maybe someone should check out why Fitzpatrick couldn't accurately throw the ball more than 20 yards down the field; The limited amount of carries CJ Spiller got; the vanilla defense that gave up a record amount of yards over the past 2 seasons. Do you think that had anything to do with the Bills problems last year?
-
I agree John. Are the Bills always going to complain when things don't go their way? Like you said, the Bills complained about having numerous games at the Ralph after Thansgiving because the poor weather conditions at that time of year was having an effect on ticket sales. The NFL granted the Bills wish this year, yet they are still complaining! Back in the late 80's thru the mid 90's, selling out the Ralph in December & January was never a problem because the team was winning. If the Bills would focus on having competent management & coaches running this organization, then they wouldn't need to come up with excuses for their shortcomings.
-
If the Bills had better talent (at least year and years past) in regards to management, coaches & players, then this wouldn't be an issue. We'll see if this year will be any different.

For those sipping on the Pettine kool-aid, you might want to hold off a little bit before taking another sip. http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/158986-criticism-of-pettine-from-jets-nation/ "An ESPN blurb I picked up via PFT this morning seems to imply criticism of Bills new DC Mike Pettine." "Ironically the criticism is that the Jets defense was not aggressive enough over the last two seasons when Pettine assumed a larger role in the defensive play calling. Considering that the Bills D seemed to be blitz crazy during OTAs and minicamp this offseason, the allegations seem strange to say the least. But apparently the statistics back up the claims:" http://espn.go.com/b...rand-of-defense "The statistics don't lie. Here's a breakdown of the Jets' blitz percentage (5+ pass rushers) over the past four seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information: 52.4 percent in '09 (first in NFL), 44.7 percent in '10 (third), 32.8 percent in '11 (12th) and 34.0 percent in '12 (11th). Detect a trend? In fairness to Pettine, he lost the top corner in football, Darrelle Revis, which may have caused him to become more cautious. Yet when I mentioned that alibi to two players, they shot it down, saying Antonio Cromartie capably replaced Revis as the No. 1 corner. I'll say this: The defense will be fun to watch in 2013." It should be interesting to see how Pettine's defense will unfold this season and how well Pettine makes adjustments.

One thing is for sure, the Bills will never be a playoff team until they get a good QB. Is Kolb better than Fitz? Who knows? Will Manuel pan out and be the QB that the Bills desparately need? Only time will tell.

Overrated Owner and Organization
Jerry Jabber replied to WIDE LEFT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jerry Jones & the cowboys get my vote for overrated owner & organization. I'm sick & tired of hearing every offseason about how great the Cowboys are, how great Tony Romo is, etc... Jerry Jones had success in the 90's, but blew it when him & Jimmy Johnson had their falling out. -
That's nice to know. I was wondering why my post was transferred. The defense got a ton of pressure in OTA's without some 1st stringers in the lineup (KW, Dareus & McKelvin). That could mean some different things: Pettine is smart and is maximizing the talent he has available; the O-line is that bad; or a combo of both. Kyle Williams was hampered two years in a row with 2 different heel injuries. I hope KW will be able to come back healthy and we can see him return to his old form. I know a lot of people are down on Dareus because he hasn't made the Probowl yet (given he was a #3 pick in the draft). Dareus lost his brother lost year and that's a very devastating thing to go through, so people need to give him some slack. If players on the D can stay healthy, such as KW, Dareus, MW, plus with the infusion of new talent (Jerry Hughes, Alan Branch, Kiko Alonzo), as well as the further development of our draft picks (Gilmore & Carrington) it's possible that the defense we were expecting last year could happen this year. I still don't want to drink the kool-aid and get my hopes up just to be let down again (the Bills are like the movie "Groundhog Day," same disappointing thing year after year).

It sounds like we have a good crop of WR's this year. IMO, I think the Bills will keep 6 WR's: SJ, Woods, Goodwin, Graham, Rogers and Brad Smith. The offense has been going at a very rapid pace in the OTA's (getting off snaps in 8-10 seconds between plays). Here's what SJ had to say about the WR's & offense: http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Stevie-Johnson-on-Offense-and-2-WR/26edf5ad-04ac-4b4a-8466-dafd482863e0 The O-line is a concern with both Pears & Hairston coming back from injuries battling it out for the RT position, plus the absence of Levitre. I'm hoping Hackett will properly utilize the talent on his roster and give Spiller & Freddie the ball much more often than what Cooter did. Spiller should run the ball 20-25 times a game. With a new offensive system and a lot of younger WR's on the team, running the ball more would make more sense this season.
