  1. I come from a family with deep ties to law enforcement, so I see things from a slightly different perspective than most. That being said, I would have the same thought process if a green cop shot a purple guy. I give zero $#its what color anybody is. I care only about innocence until proven guilt and what can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Conjecture by amateurs helps nobody and can sometimes only serve to fan the flames of conflict before any actual facts and evidence have even been examined.
  2. Again, I wasn't assigning blame or excusing anybody's actions. I was only trying to point out that, as much as you and others talk about what he should have done (with the benefit of hindsight), none of us were there, and very few of us know what it feels like to legitimately fear for our lives, and not one of us has a complete evidentiary picture of the incident, so we aren't equipped to pass judgement on either party.
  3. At no point did I argue that he provoked his own shooting. The poster I responded to emphasized the "toy gun." I just refuted that inaccuracy and explained how difficult it can be to differentiate between a pellet gun styled after a real gun and a real gun. At what point in my post did I even remotely indicate any belief that he provoked his own shooting? Nobody, even those who have seen the video, know all of the circumstances surrounding the events that took place. The officer was responding to multiple 911 reports of a person brandishing a gun and, upon arrival saw something that corroborated those reports. Was he supposed to wait until he had been shot or shot at to establish if it was a real gun? Clearly he felt his life was threatened. It's not my place to judge whether or not that feeling was justified. Not one of us, even the most highly trained and experienced, know how we would respond in that situation. I am not assigning blame to any party because neither I, nor anyone else on this board, was present that moment or have all of the requisite information necessary to do so.
  4. It wasn't a toy gun, it was a pellet gun styled to look exactly like a real gun and lacking the typical orange tip to identify it as not being a real gun. I'd like to see you differentiate between a real gun and a pellet gun as described above in the split second that is required to save your own life. I have been around guns of all kinds for years and know even I would likely not be able to tell the difference.
  5. I am grievously offended by the protests taking place on NFL sidelines because I had friends who came home in their caskets beneath those colors, and to dishonor them and their sacrifice in order to make a political point, as valid as that point may be, is incredibly offensive to me. You don't have to be protesting against those who sacrificed their lives to be immensely disrespectful of their sacrifice. You don't have to be against the cause for which they are protesting to take issue with their method of protest. I understand what it is they are protesting and am sympathetic to their cause, but their way of protesting is alienating me as a potential supporter.
  6. I've been saying for years that LA already has a pro team playing in the Coliseum...
  7. "Hey, Peter... watch out for your cornhole, bud."
  8. Anybody have any of the group pictures taken at the end of the day that they can post? I'd love to be able to get copies.
  9. Very well said, my friend. Thanks to everyone for an amazing time. Seeing you all at the TBDAHOT is always the highlight of my football season. Back safely in MA now, and already looking forward to the next one. Who knows, if by some serendipitous miracle we end up hosting a home playoff game, you may not need to wait a year to see me again. Take care, all, and thanks again.
  10. Listened to 98.5 the Sports Hub on the way into work this morning (because it's always so entertaining when Boston loses) and heard a great analogy for the events in Foxborough last night. Between the hype, the banner, and the celebration, the Patriots were Apollo Creed coming out for his fight with Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, dancing and having a great time stroking his own ego. The Chiefs were Ivan Drago, standing in the ring watching in disgust as it all went on around him. I think we all know how that ended up... "If he dies, he dies."
  11. What is it they say about whatever is under a cowboy's hat?
  12. He may be the new Joe Klopfenstein... released, signed, released, signed, etc...
  13. You too, my friend. Seeing everybody at the HOT is as big a highlight of my trip as the game itself. It's always a good time with a good group of folks.
  14. Possum, raccoon, and squirrel again this year?
  15. Judging Ragland's performance in this defensive scheme is like trying to judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree.
  16. September 10th can't get here fast enough for me. I keep looking for the Hammer's lot reservation thread like last year. Don't want to miss out on my VIP spot.
  17. Why so late? That seriously cuts into pregame drinking time.
  18. I'm still heart broken about the prospect of Patty in anything but teal. I get why the team didn't match what TOR offered (seeing as it is the richest contract ever offered to a 38 year-old player), and I get why he couldn't say no to it, but my hockey heart wishes he had retired and ridden off into the sunset on a teal and black horse. As for the Boston teams, I was indifferent to all of them but the pats*. I didn't like them, didn't hate them, sort of identified with the detest of the Yankees (I'm also an A's fan), but had no real opinion one way or the other. Then I moved here... after several years of Boston "fans" telling me that, because I live here now, I have to abandon my loyalties and become a Boston fan, I absolutely despise, root against, and revel in the misery of, all of their teams.
  19. The worst part about that move is that we can no longer use Anchorman references to a whale's vagina to describe the chargers. https://youtu.be/cT8sIT4vBUQ
  20. I was born and raised in San Jose. The Sharks and Warriors are my hometown teams. I am a Bills fan because the closest friends of the family we had my entire childhood were the people who introduced me to NFL football back in the mid-eighties. They're from Tonawanda.
  21. I'm in MA, too. This is a photo of my office door in Marlborough, the heart of pats* country. I have found that since I've moved from the west coast to new england, I have to be even more bold and obnoxious about my fandom, and I'm more than happy to oblige. Eff these MA-holes. I don't accept their pity and won't hesitate to tell them that.
