I know you have your opinion based on what you have seen...But the Scouts I really like and trust could not disagree with you more...And some of these guys specifically did not like Maybin...Like Mike Mayock for example... Could he be better vs the run overall? Of course he could...Almost any prospect could...But he was the focal point of a lot of blocking schemes too...And the kid is an absolute freak athlete...Maybin wishes he was the type of athlete Jordan is... Here's a quick analysis about Jordan that was written in January by David Syvertsen, and posted on Great Blue North...It pretty much sums up what I think when I see Jordan play... LB Dion Jordan – Oregon - 6-7/243 .... What coaches and general managers want at the top of round one is upside, versatility, and the ability to contribute early on. Dion Jordan has all three. A freakish athlete with his ability to play low despite his height. Technically sound with good arm/hand use. Very fast, very fluid in space. Jordan spent a lot of time rushing the edge, out wide in coverage against wide receivers, and filling lanes against the run. He has the frame for more weight, and he will fit in to any scheme. Jordan is an explosive athlete with length, aggression, and versatility. He is a top 10 caliber player. <>

18 months? Wow!I had not heard that? If that's true it certainly can't help his Draft stock...Though... Despite the fact that his size looks picture perfect for that hybrid DE/OLB position in many 3-4 alignments, Jordan did drop in coverage a good bit at Oregon...I think teams are going to be much more concerned about the health/soundness of the shoulder than how much weight he can put on in the next 6 Months...Simply because he's a more diverse player that can fit into multiple schemes...I don't think he's a guy that can only rush the passer standing up and that's all he can do...I still think he's a Top 10 talent no matter what...His upside is almost limitless...

Bills to let David Nelson walk?

Thank You! And Sisyphean too!!! If Geno is gone, and The Bills stay at #8...I would be thrilled with Jordan...I've been talking about him for a while, and what he did today just blew me away...He's very well rounded, and explosive athletically...I think when the shoulder gets cleaned up he'll be able to get stronger (that's why he did not bench...He has shoulder surgery scheduled right after the Combine)...But Jordan is no Maybin...Jordan could be the next JPP, or Aldon Smith, with the ability to drop into coverage a bit...He's flexible...A 3-Down Defender...I really like that kid...

I hope so...Most Mock Drafts are generally better than what Buddy has actually done...So why not?

Same place he did in his Draft...Near the bottom...

Bills to let David Nelson walk?

I know...He's lanky and a bit awkward...I'll give you that much...I might be 100% wrong on this...But I just have this feeling that he's going to go on and contribute big-time on another team...I just think he was about as rock solid as any player we had...Not spectacular by any means...But a guy who had a great feel for the passing game and did very well in his role...We'll see I guess...I just really liked the kid...And I hate to see him go... -

Right, because 4.5 is slow for a 6-5 WR... -
I threw up in my mouth...
-
It's not good either...And it's DEFINITELY not Top 10 good... While I agree a 4.8 will not exclude Te'o from playing ILB in the NFL, lets not forget the hype that was behind him as a prospect earlier...He's not even close to being a Top 10 prospect...I don't believe he is a 1st Round prospect...But we'll see...
-
Totally agree... My argument against Te'o early on...way back when some folks were drooling for him as a Top 10 Pick...was simply that he was too slow to go that high (I had read somewhere that Te'o ran a 4.8 last Spring)...I never thought he was too slow to play ILB in the NFL, nor did I not like the kid (this was before the whole scandal of course)...But there was no way he was a top 10 caliber athlete...Look at Dion Jordan...Now THAT is a Top 10 athlete! Te'o is the type of prospect that, without the hype, you could get in the 2nd-3rd Round and he would have a solid career for you...But I could never understand why some folks thought he would go so high...
-
The new Scout they have on the NFL Network (I forget his name right this second, I know he worked in Philly and other NFL teams) said that he, and many of the Scouts he talked to this year, never had Te'o as a 1st Round Prospect...He said even before the Alabama game he did not have a 1st Round grade on Manti...I don't think this time is going to help Te'o at all...But it won't hurt him much either...He'll still be a 2nd-3rd Round Draft Pick...
-
The only QB I would take at #8 would be Geno Smith...I admit that may be a little higher than he's rated...But the Buffalo Bills are in a very unique situation...And the ability to get the top rated QB in this Draft is something this Franchise absolutely cannot pass up... Otherwise I completely agree with your trade-down comment...I would almost take any trade-down offer that included a 2014 #1...I would still grab a QB with one of the 1st three picks in 2013, even in a trade down scenario...But this team has some major gaping holes all over the roster...So extra picks can't be a bad thing...And the QB class of 2014 is going to be better...Probably significantly better...
-
True! He does have a 1st Rd name!!! I'll give him that much...
-
I can honestly say that I was never aboard the Te'o hype train...And to be equally honest I just could not understand it...I thought, best case scenario, he was a slower Paul Posluszny-type...No way is the kid a 1st Round talent...I really don't think he's a 2nd Round talent...But I'd probably consider him in the 3rd or later...I do think he's got decent instincts...
-
Hate to say I told you so (OK maybe not... )...But I told y'all he was slow...
-
You're right...We do have a QB...A QB who has more turnovers than any other QB in the NFL over the past 3 years...A QB who was 27th in Total QB Rating last year...A QB with a noodle arm that everyone and their mother knows how to defend now...A QB who has one of the worst deep ball completion %, and the 2nd worst off target % in the NFL...A QB who is incapable of extending a play...A QB who chucks and ducks under pressure...A QB who has almost lost twice as many games as he has won as a career starter...And that's not just with the Bills mind you...That's the QB we have...A QB only the completely football delusional masochistic Bills Fan, or Fitz's actual relatives, want back...Which one are you Cardinal?...
-
I'm honestly stunned that "average" is getting as many votes as it is...

Bills to let David Nelson walk?
KOKBILLS replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fair enough... To be perfectly honest I would like nothing better than to be able to have the same mind set...And I probably would if Nix was not still lingering around with his nonsense...I don't trust anything the Bills do as long as Buddy Nix is still in the building...I just can't at this point...And for all our sake's I hope I'm dead wrong... -
I'll go on record right now strongly against Patterson at #8...I just don't think he's worth a Top 10 pick...That kid could not hold AJ Green, or Julio Jones jock-strap...He's a project and real raw...Yes he has great tools to work with...But IMHO he's not a Top 10 talent at this point... The guy I want if the Bills stay at #8, and Geno Smith goes in the top 7, is Dion Jordan who just lit it up with a 4.53 40...I think that kid is the next JPP or Aldon Smith...I REALLY like Jordan...

Just let me remind you...There are folks at OBD right now that valued Aaron Williams over Colin Kaepernick, TJ Graham over Russell Wilson, Marcell Dareus over about 5 Pro Bowlers, etc, etc, etc... I think your one line description of Nelson as slow, tall, UDFA with a busted knee is ridiculous...Come on...He's not slow...Never was...You do realize that Nelson's 40 times were in the mid 4.5's, including a 4.47 on wet grass in his Pro Day at Florida?...That's pretty darn fast for a 6-5 wide out...Is it not? Where the heck does all this slow talk come from? These armchair experts around here? I keep reading here that the kid is slow and I swear I wonder if any of you really even care about being right...Yes he was a UDFA...All that means is a ton of teams made mistakes Scouting him...Nelson was not used a ton in his 4 years in Florida...Players fall through the cracks every Draft...His production in 2 years is clear and obvious evidence Nelson should have been Drafted...And all reports are that the knee is fine and Nelson will be 100% for Camp 2013... There is no way I'm going to give The Bills FO the benefit of any doubt any longer...On top of Nelson's obvious skills in his role, he's a good kid, and by all accounts a tireless worker...He is the exact-type player that every Championship Roster needs...A receiver who gets open on 3rd Down, in the Red Zone, and who is not going to break the bank...Even at the 2nd Round tender salary Nelson would make 1/3 of what the Bills pay Kelsay...The Bills had two years of Nelson on the ultra-cheap, and instead of giving the kid the minimum tender, which is easily affordable based on what a healthy David Nelson gives you, they decide to create yet another hole on a Swiss cheese Roster at a position (WR) of zero depth...The is the exact type move that has this team lingering where they are today...They continuously make poor evaluations of talent both on the team, and in the Draft...And by the time they realize their mistakes it's usually too late...Last point about the tender...No way that minimum tender stands in the way of bringing back Byrd, or Levitre...It's not enough cash...Not even at the 2nd round tender amount... I think a healthy David Nelson will shortly prove to the Bills this was a mistake...But we'll see...I could be wrong, and the knee may never be the same...I realize the kid is not Megatron, or AJ Green...But, again assuming he's healthy, I think he goes somewhere and contributes in a big way from day #1...
