  1. You want the team to give up on the season in week 1? That's what you're telling the players when you start guys who don't deserve to start. Come week 10-11 I think you might start seeing this but a coach absolutely can't do that in week 1, he'd lose his team.
  2. I used to make it up for one game a year until my wife and I had our son. He's 6 now and we haven't been to a game since he's been born and I don't plan on taking him until he's 12 or 13 at the earliest. The Ralph just has too many drunks/idiots to want to subject my 6 year old to. Contrast that with baseball. I'm a lifelong Phillies fan and living in the NYC area I get down to a handful games a year. Sure, there's the occasional idiot who tries to ruin it for everybody else but I have yet to see a fight or anybody needing to be thrown out of the game (and I've gone to 10+ games the past 3 seasons.) As such I'm taking my kid to his first bball game next monday (the first game in a big series against the Braves.) The pathetic part of all this is that I'm willing to take my kid of PHILADELPHIA, the town known for idiotic behavior, the town who people ripped on for having a jail underneath the Vet, the town known for booing their own team... but I'm not willing to take him to a Bills game. This should tell you all you need to know about how bad the Ralph is. Granted, there is a big difference between baseball crowds and football crowds, but still, the Ralph is just out of control.
  3. Hell, the play call coming out of the TO was even dumber. It's 3rd and 30 and your pass protection and passing offense has looked horrible. Just give it to Spiller, hope he breaks a long run and if not then punt the ball. Coming out throwing in that situation is just asking for a huge mistake. The risk/reward ratio just isn't worth it. There was a deflected ball near INT on the play but fortunately the Dolphin defender wasn't able to make the play.
  4. If he was lucky this happened early in the game and he was saved from having to watch the majority of what transpired.
  5. I say put two TEs on the field, max protect and use a power running game. For the life of me I don't understand why you have 2RB, 3-4WR formations when the OL is having trouble pass blocking on the edges. Friggin' max protect! Our TEs suck surely they can do something besides just take up a roster spot. Of course, a power running game wouldn't let Gaily show off his favorite new toy - C.J. Spiller. So now the offense is tied to this gimmicky, try and fool the defense with smoke and mirrors soft offensive game which only serves to showcase how bad the OL and QB are.
  6. I with you. Gaily did a very poor job at playcalling and the OL was atrocious. I don't think anybody disagrees with this. However, trying to mitigate Edwards contributions by spreading the blame too thin isn't right either. Go check out other teams with competent QBing. Sure, they get better pass protection in general but watch what the QBs do when they end up in a game where the D is getting consistent pressure. They don't immediately leave the pocket and stumble towards the sidelines tossing the ball out of bounds. They adjust and start getting rid of the ball quicker. They realize they can't sit back there and they take a three step drop and get rid of the ball. And this doesn't mean checking down to the local back sitting in the flat. You can still get the ball to your wideouts doing this if you make quick reads and don't panic. Edwards just can't do this. Hell, check out his check downs, he is so panicked when he tries to dump the ball off that half the time he fires the ball much too hard for such a short pass. This is not a calm, cool QB. ANY QB in the league is good if they have great protection and can sit back there all day, what separates the good QBs from the average and bad ones is what they do when they have pressure. Edwards panics and you can't win with a QB who panics.
  7. I disagree with this. Granted, the different QB isn't on the roster at the moment but a veteran NFL quality starter could step in and do a much better job than Edwards. Tasker kept droning on about how the no huddle attack was responsible for the TD drive but that was only a part of it. The real difference on that drive is that Trent took a three a step drop, planted and threw. The protection wasn't much better he just got rid of the ball quickly and - low and behold - they could suddenly move the ball. Granted, you can't do a 3 step drop every play but if we'd see more of this from the play calling and more quick decisions from Trent the OL wouldn't look anywhere near as bad and it would keep the D off balance and keep the on their heels. I agree that we have the worst pass blocking OL in the NFL but the thing that has me scratching my head is if Trent KNOWS the OL can't maintain a block for more than a few seconds why the hell does he sit back there holding the ball or try to buy time by running (which never works)? Make a decision and throw the ball. I found myself screaming at the TV yesterday the same thing I did with Losman, "THROW THE BALL!"
  8. Actually, I agree with him and those statements - while seemily contradictory - are both true. For the majority of the plays the OL sucked, but on the few times when they did provide protection (and even pick up a blitz) Edwards would sense pressure where the was none. He'd quickly dump it off or break the pocket when all he had to do was step forward. Admittedly, this only happened a handful of times but it's not a good sign. Granted, if he got better protection from the OL he likely wouldn't be so skittish on plays when they did their job...
  9. This is the problem. He lacks the confidence to put the ball in small places which is what you have to do in the NFL. Guys aren't going to be 4-5 yards open, there are going to be small spaces (for brief moments) and Edwards has got to pull the trigger. He's going to safely play himself out of a career if he doesn't.
  10. Even on the few times when the Bills OL did pick up the Phins blitz Edwards panics and either tries to dump it off or runs out of the pocket when he could just step up into the pocket and deliver the ball.
  11. He did say, "when you can't get anything going it's hard to get something going" which is a pretty close relative to Jauron's quote.
  12. Hold onto the ball until the momentum of the play is over. Hold onto it the entire time and don't let go of it.
  13. Then don't put the game in the QB's hands. Line up and run the ball right down their throats. They started the game in the shotgun with 3 straight passes - not a good game all around for Gaily. That being said I'm not going to judge him for this game alone. Let's see how he adjusts the rest of the season before throwing dirt on his grave.
  14. This is Kolb's 3rd career start. While he might not pan out his struggles today are not an indicator that he is definitely going to suck. Edwards, on the other hand, has 3+ years of bad starts to back up an argument that he will never be a quality starter.
  15. I actually like the rule. I was so tired of all the guess work that was involved with "did he show control before it came loose when he hit the ground?" stuff. This way it's clear. You hold onto the ball the entire time - even if the ball touches the ground as you roll - and it's a catch. If it comes free it's incomplete. Cut and dry - that's the way I like my football rules, less room for interpretation from the refs.
  16. Yep, that's incomplete. Rule clearly states you have to maintain control after you hit the ground. Johnson didn't - easy call.
  17. You really think that it gave the team a better chance to win? Converting a 4th and 10 and having to move into FG range WITH 2 timeouts left and 90 seconds on the clock is less of a chance than holding the phins to 3 and out AND moving 70-80 yards in 30 seconds for a TD with NO timeouts? I look at those two options and the percentages I come up with aren't even close. If the Bills were still down by only 3 then I might say you're right but by taking the safety Gaily made the Bills need a TD. Taking the safety was the worst move he could have made. Both punting and going for it were higher percentage moves.
  18. Sure you can, you can do what I was screaming at my TV all day. Line up under center and run the friggin ball right at them. If Spiller isn't the type of back who can do that then put Jackson or Lynch in there and pound the rock. They never even tried to really establish the run today.
  19. It's tough to remember a time when we weren't rebuilding.
  20. Yeah, that was another head scratcher but the percentages on that one were at least a little bit closer. The chances of hitting a 49 yard kick vs. the chances of converting that 4th down favor kicking the FG but not by the lopsided amount that taking an intentional safety and kicking the ball away do. None-the-less your point is a good one. Throw in the horrible clock management at the end of the 1st half and Gaily's game day coaching is far from impressive.
  21. The D looked good in the 2nd half. I got excited a few times with their play. The offense - on the other hand - was just painful to watch. They should give Trent 2 games MAX to get his act together and if he's still in afraid to throw, check down every play mode then send him to the bench permanently. I would have no problem with him never seeing the field again as well.
  22. Yeah, this is one of the most boneheaded coaching decisions I can remember. Does Gaily really think that he has a better chance of 1Holding the Phins to a 3 and out AND going 70-80 yards with no timeouts in 30 seconds to score a TD than he has to convert a 4th and 10? Just f'in pathetic.
  23. He did, but it's something that he probably shouldn't say to the press. Donte needs to figure out that there are things you can say to your teammates and things you can say to the press. You don't throw a former coach under the bus like that in public - especially someone as well liked and respected as Jauron. Its simply unprofessional. I'm guessing Donte is upset that he lost his starting spot last year and this is his way of venting that frustration. Donte has proven time and time again he doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut. If only his play equalled his talk...
  24. This is how I used to feel but somewhere along the way my opinion changed and I now find myself listening to Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves all the freakin' time. Both are just brilliant albums Imo. That being said, when you have made 20+ albums a lot of it isn't going to be great - so they do have a lot of mediocre stuff as well.
  25. As a fan base we trash Greg Williams, Mike Mularkey and Dick Jauron on a regular basis. Hell, we used to bag on Wade "punt catcher" Phillips until we witnessed true incompetence. I hope to hell 5 years from now we're not trashing Chan Gaily...
