I hate to admit it, but Taylor sucks
MDH replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, didn't see it. I was probably too busy rolling my eyes at another Doug Flutie dirt ball. Even if Woods wasn't far enough along in his route those balls would have been at his shoe laces. -

Not once did I see Woods pull up on his route on those throws. He was running towards the ball but it was way too far in front of him. It might have been a timing thing but it wasn't that Woods quit on his route. -
And on another coaching topic: I'm sure at some point we'll see them find a way to feed Sammy the ball. Every other team with a "stud" #1 does this. Get him involved early. Throw bubble screen to him to get him touches and see what he can do after the catch. Throw crossing patterns his way. Easy throws for short gains where he can use his speed and athleticism to make something happen. Stop just chucking it down field at him on go patterns.

And it wasn't just the deep balls. He was inaccurate throwing short outside throws too. I think I counted 3 balls to Woods that were a good 1-2 yards in front of him and in the dirt. -
Or maybe Rex giving his guys so much time off? They looked unprepared and unpracticed in situational football. Guys that look that unprepared shouldn't be given so much time off. Giving time off to a team is something you can do with a team full of vets who all know the systems inside and out, not on a team that has two new coordinators and everybody obviously isn't on the same page. If they don't want to run contact practices fine, but make them go over situational drills again and again. That two minute offense made me want to That's where a coach needs to have his guys prepared for the situation. Nobody seemed to know wtf they were doing. That's on coaching. I'm not excusing TT and his horrible play last night and you're right, a vet in that situation simply lines up his team and snaps the ball. But the Bills have a guy who has 7 starts, the coach needs to have him prepared for that moment and they didn't. Btw, I've never seen a team not call multiple plays in the huddle coming out of the break in that situation. Never seen it. Not even in college ball. That is coaching.

Gilmore wasn't in position to immediately chase after him. His momentum was taking him the wrong way. The only player who had a shot at him was the safety deep down the middle of the field. He might have gotten him, but who knows.

Actually, he looked good. His completion percentage was sh*t because he smartly threw the ball away time and time again when the D had the play sniffed out. That's good QB play even if it doesn't show up in the stats. -
Yeah, I think you're right. Technically the ball should have been snapped again from the previous spot. The whistle was blown before the ball was caught. I have a hard time bitching about this one though as they did take a TD off the board with that whistle.

Mike Pereira: Bills should have had one more play
MDH replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hell no, it's the only thing keeping the major blunders to a minimum. -
Because they should have called multiple plays in the huddle coming out of the break. There should be no reason to look to the sidelines there, everybody should already know the play and should be hurrying to the LoS to snap the ball.

I want to see more 1st down passing attempts. It's the easiest down to throw on and a young QB needs things to be easy for him. It doesn't mean you become a pass first team, but they need to even it out. It will help both TT and the run game. As it is the entire D knows McCoy is getting the ball on 1st down and it makes it so much easier to stop the Bills O because of it.

Wild Card Race and Intel on Teams in the Hunt
MDH replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Biggest game of the season this week. It's pretty much must win. Win the next two and the Bills are sitting pretty. -
And like clockwork there is a "cut him" thread with the perceived goat of the game. Yeah, the team is super healthy in the defensive backfield, let's cut a vet! Now, I will agree with pulling him from return duty. He's a shell of his former self.

He was bad vs. the Titans until the very end. He threw 3 INTs vs. the Pats the first time around which cost them. This isn't his 1st bad game. He's been good in some and bad in some, which is what you get with an inexperienced guy. -
Go back one play further. Shady dropping that TD was even worse. It was a good play by the safety but he still should have hauled it in. Shoulda-coulda-woulda been 10-3 Bills. And I totally agree about Rex's composure. A coach can't be going ballistic on the sidelines. He needs to be the rock.

If someone had told me the Bills had to go 80 yards with 1:54 on the clock with no timeouts I would not have taken that. The odds of them doing that aren't good. The fact that the Bills couldn't even run a pro level 2 minute drill and cross midfield is what's disturbing though, not that they couldn't pull out the tie. I'd have been happier with an INT because Taylor forced the ball down field trying to make a play. But what we saw was about as bad as it gets.

NS. By "gave himself up" he meant "scrambling madly to get out of bounds to stop the clock." -
Yeah, I saw that. One of the advantages of having a former Rex player watching the game. He knows the responsibilities. Nobody would have ever blamed Mario on that play without Lewis making that comment.

I'm willing to give them missed calls. They can't see everything. I'm not willing to give them calling penalties that aren't there or not knowing the rules. Those aren't acceptable, particularly the latter. They should know the rules inside and out. -

Unfortunately, that's the average game this year. -
So it's all good then! Mistakes don't matter when you weren't supposed to win.

Everything that takes place on the field, he's the HC. The worst thing I saw last night was once again Sammy was criminally underutilized. This is becoming a reoccurring theme. That's on the coaching. The second worst thing I saw was their lack if urgency down 10 with 1 timeout left and 7 minutes left on the clock. They should have been in two minute mod yet they continuously ran the play clock to under 5 seconds. WTF? And finally, the two minute drill at the end. It's like they've never practiced it. After one play TT is looking to the sideline for another play? Never seen that one before. They should have had 3+ plays called coming out of the break and just hurried to the LoS and snapped the ball for the next play.

It was spectacular and shows what the guy can do if they'd just feed him the ball.

He certainly sucked tonight. I'm not willing to write him off but at the same time he's not a rookie, he doesn't get 3 years to try and figure this thing out. He gets a season and then has to battle it out with whomever the Bills bring in next year. The main problem is that he's slightly built and puts himself in harms way more often than not. This results in a QB who is perpetually injured. That's a guy who can't be relied on to be "the guy." So even if he does start figuring things out is this the guy we want back there? Someone who isn't performing up to his capabilities because he's "not 100%" or missing games continuously? Then again maybe this is just a string of bad luck but given his play style, I don't think so.
