I hear George Halas has been reanimated and is looking to get back into coaching. Could be a solid hire.

Between Trentative's love for throwing checkdowns and Miami's pass rush (assuming Porter will play), I wonder if it would be beneficial to go max-protect? Keep all backs and tight ends in to pass block, and only send WRs into pass patterns. Would Trent just start throwing the ball away, or would he be forced to try a deep out or crossing route once in a while?

Great article. Can we please have a moratorium on people saying that Edwards is an accurate passer just because he has a high completion percentage? Every QB will have a high completion percentage if 77% of their passes are under 10 yards. It's the 11-20 yard row that is the most damning. Long bombs are always going to be fairly low percentage plays (albeit with a huge upside if you connect), so you don't want to throw a ton of those (which Al Davis still hasn't figured out). But those 11-20 yard passes should be the bread & butter of the passing game. I refuse to believe that the coaching staff wants our crappy TEs getting vastly more targets than our really good WRs. Until proven otherwise, I'm putting that on Captain Checkdown.

Henne has a bigger arm than Pennington and our 1 remaining starter in the secondary is coming off an injury. I predict the Dolphins go with a similar gameplan to last year, where they burned us deep early and often. If McGee is fully healthy, there's a chance it won't work, but if he's hobbled like he was last year, we're toast.

One of the reasons I was majorly Jonesing for us to draft DE Connor Barwin was that Barwin played TE for 2 years in college before being switched to DE, and could serve as an extra TE in a pinch.

You know he's been on the 53-man roster all year, right? But it looks like you'll get your wish & he'll be active this week.

Vick's accuracy on the longball was fine. It was short and intermediate routes where he was woefully inaccurate.

It'll be a good learning experience for Trent.

I honestly don't think Trent is an accurate passer. I think he has a very high completion percentage because he throws a lot of short passes.

All we need is more continuity.

In fairness to Lindell, Sean Taylor died well before his FG. Rian is no murderer.

I hate Jauron as much as the next guy, but I have difficulty believing that any coach/OC/play has your primary route being a 4-yard TE cross on 3rd and 15. Or a RB dumpoff (not even a screen) on 4th and 23. I'm putting those 2 decisions on Trentative.

Sad thing is, once TO blows up the locker room, I'm going to side with him. Andre Johnson is the only major threat on the Texans (Owen Daniels is not exactly a game-breaker, folks), yet he catches 100+ passes a year for major yardage. Roddy White was the only receiving threat on the Falcons last year, and had a monster year. Why are we seemingly the only team completely incapable of getting the ball to our best playmaker(s)? Even before TO came on, we couldn't get the ball to Evans. Now with both TO and Evans, we can't get the ball to either one. Awesome.

Any time you can give the ball back to Drew Brees without scoring, you do it.

What really scares me is that the rare times that Trent throws downfield, he tends to get picked off. Maybe his accuracy is just that bad and he knows it.

Forget the deep ball, where are the 10-20 yard passes to WRs? When was the last time one of those routes got thrown, much less completed?

Any time you have a chance to throw a checkdown to a RB in the flat on 4th and 23, you do it. Fact. With all Trent's learned after all these horrible losses in the past 3 years, he must be brilliant by now.

Just going off the top of my head, but didn't McNally retire 2 years ago, not last year? I'd guess the improvements (assuming they last) would be because our blocking schemes have always called for mobile, athletic linemen, and prior to this year, we mostly had big fat guys. As for Kollar, every McCargo article I've read has painted Kollar as a major dick. If a coach doesn't click with his players personality-wise, it doesn't matter how good a teacher he is, the message just won't get through. And honestly, this quote from Mark Gaughan's article on Bob Sanders tells me all I need to know: '"Another thing is just changing your angle," Kelsay said. "You're rushing the quarterback, you're not rushing the offensive tackle. With me last year, I'd be rushing up here and the quarterback would be over there."' How many times over the past few years have we screamed about Kelsay steaming 8 yards upfield past the QB? Kollar apparently didn't think that was something that needed correcting, but Sanders does. Case closed.
