  1. I have complete confidence that his replacement will be just as bad.
  2. ' Almost all the alterations resulted in higher temperatures being reported for the present and lower numbers for the past--with the higher numbers being used to demonstrate a historical warming trend--than the numbers that were actually recorded. Downward homogenizations in recent years were rare. In some areas, downward temperature trends measured over time showed a significantly increased temperature trend after homogenization. The difference between actually measured temperatures and homogenized temperatures topped 4 degrees Celsius over certain periods at some measuring stations.' 4 degrees celsius is a significant fudge of the numbers (almost 7 and a half degrees farenheit I believe), and enough to frighten many into backing the global warming alarmist cause who otherwise wouldn't.
  3. it sounds like they're just putting off the problem for a few years. they're having to ship all the trash to landfills in other states.
  4. 'they just keep on coming'.
  5. I wonder how much of the trash collected in Manhattan is routinely incinerated?
  6. I didn't realize that Scholz Garten was the oldest bar in Texas, and I've been there. their chicken fried steak is deadly.
  7. agreed. it's my favorite show and has been since season 1. add 'manbearpig' to that list as well.
  8. South Park season 18 begins with their take on the Washington Redskins controversy: https://variety.com/2014/tv/news/south-park-season-18-teaser-washington-redskins-1201310412/
  9. 'Cursing out one’s boss may violate social norms and common sense, but the agency says it can also be construed as protected activity.' I wonder, does the NLRB fire insubordinate employees?
  10. it sounds like the opening line to an old blues song.
  11. and thus it's power to annoy.
  12. I hear it all the time in telecom, as in optical fibers, lasers, etc. it's been very heavily used lately by journalists and politicians in the US as meaning how actions and policy are viewed by the public. another buzz word. I hate buzz words.
  13. there's another one that irks me. optics
  14. it may be accurate, but it's still overused. it's become a buzzword, likely due to focus group data showing how the term 'resonates' with americans. I would think that any of the multitude of synonymous phrases such as 'deploy troops', 'introduce combat forces', ground forces, infantry, etc would do just fine, especially with the news reporters - journalists, who should know at least the basics of communication and composition, such as using synonyms to avoid redundancy.
  15. I hadn't even considered that aspect of it, but you've got a point. I cringe whenever I hear it because it's been so over-used and has now become a cliche.
  16. well, you've never called me an idiot, but if I cared, then I would be an idiot.
  17. I suspected it might be that one. the phrase in significantly more compelling coming from Clint than when I say it. getting back on topic, is anyone else here as sick of the phrase 'boots on the ground' as I am?
  18. I didn't mean to quote a movie....what movie is it from? I'm old. I say that to people all the time.
  19. same as me. I'm 56 and my wife is 37, which puts us on pretty much the same maturity level.
  20. get off my lawn.
  21. I was born during the Eisenhower years, and to date, this is the most inconsistent administration with regard to foreign policy by far. there have been some serious foreign policy mistakes over those years, but nothing in terms of the wishy washy posturing of the current administration.
  22. this. well said. and this.
  23. forgive me. for a moment there it seemed you were trying to say something. I should know better.
