  1. one! (and I didn't even have to listen to it )
  2. instead of having to repeat myself, read what I posted one more time.
  3. it isn't hypocrisy. just as with income taxes, people are compelled to pay into it whether they choose to or not, yet the feds sell the notion of medicare and social security as if they're individual benefits, not some kind of welfare. also, I would point out that with nearly every form of federal assistance, the recipient receives more than they pay in, if they pay anything into it at all. if you can see how unsustainable social security or medicare are as structured, why do you not see that same problem with all government assistance programs?
  4. you're both being deliberately disingenuous here, since you're aware that seniors have been paying all their working lives into both social security and medicare, believing the government when they were told that those funds withheld from their paychecks are actually going into specific programs to help support them in their autumn years - that they would actually be getting their money back. social security and medicare are sold to people as being something completely different from welfare or general assistance, despite the fact that the money collected goes directly into the general fund. with regard to veterans, those that received an honorable discharge or made a career of service to the country deserve much more than they get, IMO.
  5. that's still a non-answer, but I'll run with it. since intent is not salient, why continue to support a welfare system that has not changed the percentage of people in poverty to any significant extent since it was implemented? can you hold your own beliefs to the same standards you apply to others?
  6. I asked you this question: 'why do you find it necessary to accuse people of wanting others to suffer just because they don't believe it's good to have a massive central authority? ' you replied with this: I will reword the question: what is it about people that believe in limited government that leads you to believe that they desire to see anyone suffer?
  7. he'll probably say that it's a step in the right direction, but that it's still not enough to provide for a family.
  8. why do you find it necessary to accuse people of wanting others to suffer just because they don't believe it's good to have a massive central authority?
  9. he'll be too busy speaking about himself.
  10. I think the bigger argument lies in the fact that the article makes no connection at all with a reduction of polar ice and the activities of mankind. the lesser argument deals with the definition of ice floes (not flows).
  11. I was thinking 'how about a mine field', but then I thought about the amusingly hazardous job of mowing the White House lawn.
  12. I very nearly peed myself watching that episode.
  13. not just clueless, but offensive. it shows how morally bereft some people truly are. on a separate note, until now I was unaware that the secret service had left the treasury dept and become part of homeland security.
  14. salt is corrosive to metal, and will damage pots over time if the water is salted while still cold because it sinks to the bottom of the pot and sits there until the water boils. the obvious answer to this is to wait until the water is boiling before adding the salt. that way the salt can't settle to the bottom, and will dissolve very quickly.
  15. I haven't read any of the books, but I guess I'm rapidly turning into a 'strain geek'. there's a lot of info on the FX site to be gleaned if anyone wants to take the time and do a little digging. cheers from central Texas.....I miss the NC coast. it's all considerably more complicated than my summary, but that's the general gist of it all. pretty cool stuff.
  16. I actually never watched BSG....the original was too weird for me seeing old Ben Cartwright in a sci-fi role, and I never had enough time to get into the reboot. the ancients are indeed on earth. according to the lore, there were three archangels sent to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah: Michael, Gabriel, and Ozryel. once they appeared on earth, they were made flesh. Ozryel enjoyed his corporeal form, so he rebelled against the other two angels. Michael and Gabriel kicked his @ss and basically tore him into seven pieces, scattering them across the earth. the blood that seeped from each portion essentially formed a spirit of it's own. the head, which landed in north America, became the spirit now referred to as 'the master', traveling across the land bridge into northeast Asia, and eventually into Poland, where he took over the body of a nobleman afflicted with gigantism, and has been in that body ever since. the master is destroying the balance that the other six ancients have maintained since biblical times, and it appears that Quinlan is working for at least one of them in an attempt to stop the master, whose plan is to turn the vast number of humans into slaves and blood donors after killing off all of the world's most powerful people.
  17. the leader of the 'good' vampires is supposedly a human/vampire hybrid nearly 2000 years old named Quinlan. I don't know if he's a rogue and works alone with his gang, or if they serve one or more of the other six 'ancients' - a group of original vampires of which the master belongs to as the seventh. the master is trying to take over the world, and the other six ancients are apparently allying in an attempt to stop him from doing so. it appears that Quinlan is 'recruiting' Gus to the cause.
  18. the mysterious 'good' vampires make another appearance, Palmer is healed by the master, and Setrakian is forced to flee his basement stronghold. next week's season finale ought to me a monster. absolutely loving this show.
  19. well, it was actually Iron Butterfly, but the rest is completely accurate. have you ever heard any of their other material? In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was by far their best work, despite the appallingly boring drum solo.
  20. don't laugh in the face of death, or your tongue will blister
  21. I've caught bits & pieces of the show, and got a pretty good laugh out of what I managed to see. x 2 with regard to Key and Peele.....I try to catch that as often as possible. for my tastes however, South Park still rules Comedy Central. the season premier with the Washington Redskins almost killed me.
  22. as a fan of The Three Stooges, I take umbrage at your comparing them to the current administration.
