  1. she's good.....real good. with music like this, I appreciate the skill & talent, but I don't particularly care for the modern bent to the music. for music that features a violin soloist, this is what I like (in fact this is one of my favorites): Sarah Chang, featured soloist, Paganinni's concerto no 1 (her part begins at 2:04)
  2. funny you should say that in response to someone else's reaction to a cartoon where the IRS is beating the crap out of the TEA party.
  3. I couldn't say, but it's nice to know that you, as well as the vast majority of english-speaking human beings, are aware that it is indeed a gesture of courtesy.
  4. this is a rhetorical question, right?
  5. yes, that very much has the ring of your typical political hyperbole to it, but if you lived where I do and could see the amount of people crossing into the US, you might see at least a sliver of wisdom in such speculation, especially considering that the people involved in much of the human trafficing are the Mexican drug cartels, who don't give a damn who they bring to the border as long as they get payed for doing so. you may not be aware of this, but Texas has had to deploy our national guard to assist our border patrol. now THIS is the kind of material that makes your non-plagiarized posts so entertaining.
  6. okay, you guys. I officially got nuthin'.
  7. Hanson? seriously? The Jonas Brothers rule.
  8. a little surgery, some hormone treatments, and a change of faith will give you two of the three.
  9. didn't Tom Petty's 'Free Falling' come out then? I'm sure that's what he's referring to.
  10. for new music I primarily look into bands & musicians that I read about in magazines & online. most I find to be unimpressive, but a few turn out to be really good (the most recent band to come along that I like is Ghost). I generally don't like much of the newest music out there, and I loathe top 100. I've listened primarily to metal for most of my life, but even most of the new metal is insipid and overly processed sounding with terrible vocals. I find myself listening more & more to classical and orchestral music, especially Russian composers like Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff. I actually say that whenever anyone younger than me gives me grief....it's always good for a laugh, especially if you call them 'whippersnappers' too.
  11. that's the beauty of living in the 21st century. in all three cases, you can choose to convert if you so desire.
  12. that's some of your best work to date. cheers!
  13. how is this different from Papa John's giving a 50% discount to people bringing in a San Antonio Spurs ticket stub after any game the Spurs win?
  14. yeah, you're right about that. I just really liked the image. seal that baby up in plastic and lock it away! that's got to be worth something. why do the heathen rage?
  15. considering the postage stamp-sized lot pictured with the house in San Fransisco, the 16.5 acres becomes significant in the comparison. it isn't really a question of 'need'. you and me both. it's laughable, really.
  16. well, this is waaaay off-topic, but to share with an apparent fellow Lovecraft nerd.....
  17. spleens are always funny....
  18. well, Austin's no Chicago but it's not exactly 'the country' either. the only way I'd leave my doors unlocked would be if I had armed security 24/7.
  19. I must be some kind of uneducated, backwoods gun-freak or something, because I just can't find anything disturbing about a story in which a kid shoots his neighbor's dinosaur, except maybe the obvious lack of temporal context.
  20. and to think that I was actually appalled to hear on the radio today that the average house in Austin goes for $318,000.00.
  21. no wonder you're so friendly around here.
  22. it sure it heartening to know that the public schools have their priorities in order. otherwise, I might be concerned about what children are learning and how they're being treated.
  23. 1) no, I do not think that the police would try to cover up any evidence that the kid was gunned down if it actually did happen that way. I know that some police have been known to do what they can to 'protect their own', but I believe that all the media attention, combined with the guarantee of even greater violence on the part of the protestors should any such attempt at a cover up come to light, will keep the police honest in their investigation of the incident. there's just too much attention for them to try to get away with it. I say 95% no ( figure in a 5% chance of pure, abject stupidity). 2) 70% yes - Holder is an activist AG. I believe that it's too great an opportunity to bring the subject of racial injustice for him to ignore. the facts of the case may bear out the officer's innocence, but I believe Holder's greatest interest is in making a federal case out of this. even if they don't have sufficient evidence against the officer, the trial itself will remain in the headlines and sustain the cause. it will also serve to placate the angry mob. Holder's involvement makes this a political issue.
