  1. Here's a good review (that isn't really a review) and talks about whether you need to see the series first or not (the answer is NO): http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/09/12/050019.php Specifically: I can't wait to see it CW
  2. I havn't seen the movie yet myself, but from everything i've read, the story will be just as good regardless of whether you've seen the show or not. You'll obviously get more out of it if you see the series first, but you should still enjoy it regardless. The writer/director has said multiple times that he wrote the script so that it's accessible to fans and newcomers alike. On a local radio station, they had their movie review guy on. He gave a bunch of movies 2 stars, but when it came to Serenity, he gave it 4 stars (out of 4), and said, "This will be the next Star Wars." My impression was that he never saw the show either, but I can't be sure. CW
  3. Just a reminder that Serenity opens in theaters tomorrow. The movie is going to be GREAT (and already is, according to people who have seen it...). If the movie does well (and since it only cost $40M to make, "good" is a relative term), Universal will green light a trilogy which is excellent news. The movie is a continuation of the Firefly series that Fox cancelled for some reason... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...&s=dvd&n=507846 Fan support for the show and movie are HUGE -- note that the DVD box set is currently ranked #7 in sales at Amazon, and it's been out for over two YEARS. I've never seen the box set fall below #15 at Amazon when I've looked. That's amazing. It's also the #1 searched for movie at http://www.moviefone.com If you like great character development, good plots, and wonderful dialog, you'll love Firefly/Serenity. Go see it at the movie theater, you won't be disappointed! EDIT: For those who insist on babes, here's some more reasons to see the movie (they're all main characters in the movie): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v16/muta...er-woman-mb.jpg http://www.iesb.net/movies2/Summer%20Glau-IGC04.JPG http://www.imdb.com/gallery/hh/0821612/HH/...Staite,%20Jewel CW
  4. How quickly this thread has degenerated.
  5. Yeah, they are. Someone learned from the Cambell's soup poll a year or two ago. BTW -- this one really is a tough call. I've been to both stadiums, and the tailgating is really good at Lambeau; even if you're wearing Bills colors to a Bills/Packers game, it's a blast. CW
  6. Gina's favorite!!! CW
  7. I second the Spikes with a get-well-soon theme of some sort. Otherwise, Clements has played very well (and this may be the last season you can do one of him...). CW
  8. When I was reffing football, I just got really good at ignoring the parents myself... CW
  9. That's real mature. I guess Kelly was a problem as well. CW
  10. The actress that plays Rika in Ju-On is much better than Buffy. I didn't think SMG did that great a job in Grudge, personally. Glad to see I wasn't the only one freaked out. At least I was man enough to make it through the entire movie though I didn't like Blair Witch -- I agree with Nick on that one. CW
  11. CBS Sportsline has New Orleans as a 1.5 point favorite. FWIW. CW
  12. I did it for a year, and it was awesome. I really want to get back into it. I did it at the High School level - mainly 9th and 10th graders. You generally won't get a chance to do a Varsity game for a few years (apparantly I must've caught someone's eye because I was asked to do a Varsity game my first year; unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it that day as I had plans to be out of town. I still wonder if I should've changed my plans... ). Anyway, what I found was that the kids were GREAT. They were very respectful, and like in the NFL they come up to you from time to time and say, "Ref, watch #70, he's holding on every play," trying to influence your calls. Not once did I have a kid badmouth or complain though, so that was nice. Once, I even stepped on someone's foot on the sideline (he was obviously too close), and he appologized profusely and backed up. (technically I COULD have thrown a flag on him for being out of the box, but hey...). The coaches and parents are the ones you have to learn to ignore. You learn to ignore the parents pretty easily when you learn that they're idiots and the only rules they know are from the NFL (which are completely different than highschool). I had this one coach though (who was also a ref in my association) who was drilling me hard during a big game. I thought I was calling things properly by letting the WR/DB battle each other off the line, but I wasn't sure. The coach kept yelling at me, saying "This isn't the NFL! There's no bump and run coverage in high school!" and would NOT get off my case. I was timid because I wasn't 100% sure I was doing the right thing. At halftime, I told the head-ref what was going on on the field, and asked if I was right in not calling anything. He said I was. With renewed confidence, I started the 2nd half and the coach kept drilling me. After a few more plays, I turned around and said, "One more word from you coach, and I'm throwing the flag on you." His eyes got real wide, and he turned to an assistant and said, "Can you believe what he just said?!" I heard him mutter a few things to his assistants, but he never said anything to me the rest of the game. Afterwards, in the parking lot, the guy came up to me and appologized for his behavior and said I did a great job. Personally, I think it was classless that he was trying to influence me, but I guess it's to be expected. Reffing doesn't pay well (roughly $20-$30/game), and the equipment is expensive (I paid about $300 for shoes, flags, etc), but it is fun and a good workout too (especially in August when it's HOT and HUMID here...) PM me if you have any questions. CW
  13. You're not allowed to talk about the Bills here, this is the OT forum CW
  14. I've never seen any Bills stuff for sale when I've gone to games in Minnesota and Green Bay. I'd say you'll need to order and overnight. CW
  15. I saw Grudge in the theaters and thought it was a pretty good movie. My wife hates horror movies but agreed to go with me to watch it last year -- she hated it (too scary). I thought it was pretty creepy, but not terribly so. I knew that The Grudge was a remake of a Japanese movie called Ju-On, so I decided to pick it up and see if it was better or not. Holy crap, this movie is SCARY and CREEPY! EXCELLENT movie if you like that sort of thing. I'm in the house alone and I'm still glancing over my shoulder, half expecting to see some creepy looking kid... Most American horror movies just have things flying out of the screen at you with loud noises. Not this one (although it does that from time to time as well). It's just... Creepy. Definately worth watching, even if you have to read the subtitles. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364385/ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...&s=dvd&n=507846 CW
  16. We don't know the extent of Spikes injury vs the extent of Cowart's. In addition, didn't Cowart get injured again early the next season? Who's to say which injury made him a shell of his former self. Lastly, that was five years ago --- medicine is progressing very quickly, so that may factor well on Spikes' side. In short, we have no idea how he's going to recover. I'm just crossing my fingers that he returns to his Pro Bowl form. CW
  17. Sorry about your home, but it sounds like it could've been worse. At least you and your family are all ok. Good luck with the insurance stuff! CW
  18. That's good to hear, especially considering Spikes probably has access to even better doctors/rehab people and equipment than you did. I sure hope he comes back - by far my favorite player on the team (and the first jersey I've ever purchased, although my in-laws bought me an Antowain Smith jersey the year before he left the team.... ). CW
  19. You see, there's two phases to an OL game - pass blocking and run blocking. Just because you're good at once phase, doesn't mean you're good at a different phase. For a further illustration of this, consider the Center vs the Long snapper. Both play the center of the OL. Both snap the ball backwards. One snaps it further back than the other, yet it's a specialized skill. Our OL seems good at run blcoking (although a lot of that is WM finding and breaking through holes as well). Pass blocking, we're not so good at. But I suppose you'll tell me that my opinion is wrong, right? Because frankliy, ther'es no way to "prove" either side of the argument. CW
  20. At least we all know why SDS wanted the "Babes forum." He wanted to post stuff himself, but is just using JSP as a coverup. CW
  21. Yes, the line was definately a big part of the problem for the offense yesterday. Not all of it, by any stretch of the imagination, but a big one, and has been for 10+ years. CW
  22. When did Peters play tackle yesterday...? BTW - with your last line (all in caps even!), I bet there's a job available for you at One Bills Drive. CW
  23. Are you stalking me? CW
  24. And that's the situation in a nutshell. Whether it's because he's afraid of the pressure from the poor pass blocking or because the game is faster than he was expecting, he hasn't made a single play in two weeks. We're not even talking about a "big play" here, we're talking about a regular old play. I'm worried about the Saints game, mainly because it's their first game in their "new" home and I bet they'll be pumped up... It won't be an easy win. CW
  25. Fans don't hear about the first and second offense - those are behind closed doors. That means this is Henry's third failed drug test. Could be recreational drugs, could be performance enhancing, impossible to say. CW
