  1. Hey Bill. I'm grudgingly shedding my Pollyanna goggles vis-a-vis Jauron. I'm not ready to toss him into the ash heap of history at this point, but probably will be by the end of the season if I see another parade of "WTLFs". There are times I can't have the kids in the room with me. As for Edwards, I'll go out on a limb and say that this kid's a thoroughbred. Like you, I thought Losman was Stabler. Two games sealed that for me - Jacksonville a couple of years ago, and the Jets game last year (although that wasn't all JP's fault, let's be fair....but Jesus, just drop to the carpet, just drop to the carpet, just drop to the carpet.....). Mark my words. If our new guards and center can hold the center of the line, life's going to get interesting.
  2. Very good clip, Skoob. You get a lot of crap here, and most of it is deserved. But you also get some well-deserved praise. I have two ticket stubs kicking around home. One is from the 1990 AFC Championship Game against Schroeder and the Raiders. What a BF-ing. The other is the Oiler game. The Oiler game. The Oiler game. Anyone who says they weren't heading for the door that afternoon is a goddamn liar. But my brother and I paused at the top of the steps, and there was an interception. "Let's just see what happens here", he said. We ended up stalled in one of the handicapped platforms, and we ended up hugging a fellow in a wheelchair, tears streaming from all our eyes. I am a richer man in this life for having stayed. And we will be back. "Magnet and Steel" - Walter Egan
  3. Spoken like someone NOT of 21 years of age! But I agree with you 100%. The mature ones, or maybe the really hungry ones....or, maybe, the really competent ones...figure it out. Hence the reason the Jests moved their training camp to Cortland. Shut up, work hard, focus on ONLY ONE THING, and you'll make millions of dollars. Where do I sign up for that action? "Crippled Inside" - John Lennon
  4. I get a little nervous about the "bulging disc" thing. I'd love to see the guy succeed. I'd love to see him be dominant! But I don't want to see another Kevin Everett. Just saying don't be surprised if he bails out, and I wouldn't blame him.
  5. What importance is carried by announcing a philosophy? This is subaltern irrelevance, for heaven's sake. Who gives a rat's hairy @$$? Why does it make the coaching staff "stupid"? 1) If the team can pull the no-huddle together and make it produce efficiently, well...BFD on whether you telegraph your intentions? People knew the no-huddle K-Gun was coming every week. EVERY GODDAMN WEEK! And the Bills lost each and every single game, because their opponents were aware of the K-Gun, and neutralized it effectively. [i'm looking for that damn sarcasm icon.] 2) I love the idea of the no-huddle. Love it. I think it plays to the Bills' advantage. Young, fresh guards pounding it over and over and over ad nauseum against 29-30 year-old tackles. The best BEST thing that could happen to the Bills would be having Seau and Bruschi out there against a no-huddle. You can't BUY enough oxygen for that bench. But at the end of the game, do I think we're going to see it on a daily basis? Come ON! Do you remember Gregg Williams telling us in training camp in (what was it) 2003 that the Bills were going to feature a "West Coast Offense" and a "46 Defense". And that lasted HOW long? Until the first game when they realized that they didn't have the players. Boy, all those opposing coordinators sure quaked in their boots, didn't they? I'll believe....no, wait a minute. Who CARES what I believe? Or YOU believe? It's what the opposing coaches believe. And if I'm a coach opposing the Bills, I'll believe it when they pull it off two, three and four games into the season. Then I have a problem. And by that time, the Bills coaching staff is looking pretty goddamn smart. Come on. Tell me again how this makes the coaching staff "stupid". Sheesh.
  6. It's a narrowing of/within an animal or its body part, like having a "wasp-like waist". Probably pretty easy to get knocked off a pedicel or pedestal.
  7. This should indeed be on "Off The Wall". That having been said, "Norwood" is friggin' perfect. Because there has been many a time I've wanted to kick my beagle wide right, I can assure you.........
  8. Are you serious? Hated his politics, but he took to Western New York like few others have. I'll save condolences until I do a little digging.
  9. No, no. Even better than Andre Waters. Oglethorpe. "A cry from the street" - David Gilmour
  10. As I'd said shortly after draft day, this guy runs and hits like an escaped convict. I watched the film clips on him that afternoon, and one name came to mind....... Andre Waters. The refs will catch up with him eventually. In the interim, I'd be lying to say that I'd be heartbroken if he gave Brady a matching set.
  11. THAT nails it on the head. UUrrrggghhhhhhh.......I'm in a vat of Kool-Aid again, just like last year. And then it turned into a toilet in Week 5. I can't wait for MNF. Oh, please-oh-please-oh-please spank the Pats* at home in front of the country.......
  12. That's the big question, Lori. I've been getting more excited the further through this thread I dig. I'm not so naive to think that we're ready to step back into the glory days of two decades ago, but Tim might be onto something here. We may indeed have the components to make this work. Countering the concern about Walker, however, is the fact that we're possibly (likely?) to have two brand shiny new guards in place. Conditioning was the key in the K-Gun. Frankly, I'd rather have a bunch of 21-22 year-olds propping up the middle than, say, Melvin Fowler or Mike Gandy. Two "skill" players (and I use "skill" in quotes, because the O-Line isn't exactly chopped liver in the K-Gun) whom I think could have a field day in this offense would be Fred Jackson and Roscoe Parrish. Lord, get those two open in a seam somewhere in the middle of the second quarter and it's "Oh St" time on the opposing bench. A worn-down LB isn't going to lay a hand on either one of them.
  13. I remember reading Oates' stuff in Orange County back in the early 1980s. Wow, I'm getting old. Travel safe, young man.
  14. From our collective perspective, time is....well, you know......essentially linear. We can't GO back in time. "Woulda, coulda, shoulda" is yesterday's bronze medal. Great draft! Keep facing forward into the morning sun.
  15. Linebacker's wide open. We're so thin there. Poz is safe. Mitchell is essentially safe. After that........ Harris from Oklahoma runs and hits like an escaped convict. My guess is that he's our starting OLB.
  16. Steady now, McLovin'. I said that I thought he was all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips. I just couldn't remember how stale the chips were. Same draft as Williams? That's probably when I was wishing we'd drafted him. For good reason. Cincy got more miles out of him than we got out of Williams. Wouldn't that be something? It would be worth taking a shot at him for a couple of years. Hope the injuries aren't too serious, like musculoskeletal (ligamenture) stuff. That has a way of nagging for.....decades.
  17. I'm not lazy, just incompetent. I just Googled "Levi Jones Draft Status" and got 7,000,000 entries covering everything from offensive tackles to denim jeans in the military. When was this guy drafted, and where was he slotted? As I recall, he was all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips at the time, right?
  18. Doc, I have to respectfully disagree with that last line. I know - KNOW - we have a surfeit of actual and potential starters at wide receiver next season. But we only have ONE of the BEST punt returners in the league. Why look for the NEW best returner when you HAVE him under contract? That man is singularly responsible for the Bills' offense starting on the 38 - 45 yard line after each punt. Before you hustle the man's skinny little butt onto the trading block, think about how you're going to feel as the Bills start each drive at the 16 yard line. Over and over and over. Say it with me....help me here....."Three and out, and the Bills are once again kicking from deep in their own territory.........."
  19. It's likely heretical to say it here, but I'd just as soon see them trade down and grab another second or third. There's probably as much value at (e.g.) 15 as there is at 11 when it comes to the quality of OTs. I really don't mean to turn this into another mock draft thread - there are too many of those. Rather, I'm making this statement in keeping with the theme of perpetual optimism. I've had to take a hiatus from the board since last December because of the negativity; it's sometimes overwhelming. It's like - okay, Peters is gone. Shut up and get over it, and focus on the positive. Trade down a few spots, pick up another high first-day pick, and enjoy Christmas morning. Think of all the shiny new linebackers, tight ends and offensive linemen you're going to have when you wake up on Draft Day (Note, Bill in NYC, that I didn't say defensive secondary). But to constantly whine about how fuggin' awful the OBD FO is day-and-night.....sheesh. This is your team. Love 'em or leave 'em. Bitching about the fact that Peters is now wearing eagle feathers on his hat is just the epitome of pointlessness. I can't WAIT for Draft Day!
  20. Hear Hear! And the fans of the Denver Broncos join in the chorus as they help pack Jay Cutler's bags. Gimme a break. You act as though this is the only organization that makes unpopular choices. Stop it. Jesus, just stop it.
  21. I don't know where I come down on this one. About 4 weeks ago, I would have said "Jesus, let it go." I just read a really good book entitled "Hunting Eichmann". You might want to take a few hours to chew through this one, and then re-post. Just a suggestion. Again, I don't know where I come down on this one. Let's just say that the book was enough to balance the pendulum.
  22. That was actually very good. In the midst of all this self-immolation....quite well-turned.
  23. I'm looking through a Cabernet-soaked haze, but my favorite was always Killer McKellar. Until the knee went, that could have been some serious...stuff. I never felt that Metzelaars had the athleticism of McKellar, but he sure was a lot more durable.
  24. I know I should be more forgiving, but as hard as I try, I can't let go of the Titans game a couple of years ago when he failed to get his feet down....you know.....about 3 yards before the back of the end zone. I KNOW it's a challenging game. I KNOW the loss allowed us a better draft pick. I KNOW it was hopeless to have expected to have beaten the Titans. I know all this. But despite all my supposed knowledge, I would elbow in front of every one of you to grease the ways so as to allow that LOSER to slide gently into the harbor, and off to his next port. How ya doin', Dean?
