10/01/23 Week #4 GAMEDAY Bills vs Miami Pregame Thread
Rockinon replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
You don't even have to get physical with the wideouts. Just mix up the coverages. Make Tua think. Take away his hitting the first read 80% of the time. Make him hold the ball more than 2.2 seconds. He hasn't had to up until now, but he will. Buffalo is the best at disguising coverages. That's when the pass rush will get home. -
Denver never attacked the line of scrimmage. No one was getting pressure. As a result, all of that eye candy Miami was displaying with presnap motion left defenders reacting too late. The Bills defense will absolutely be living in the backfield. The secret is to dictate rather than react. Add in the disguises that make the QB think a little longer, hold the ball a little longer and that will also give the Dline a chance to blow up plays. The Bills are very good at mixing up coverage and forcing the QB to guess. The Dolphins have been fortunate that no defense, with the exception of NE, has been able to disrupt their timing. I predict a very wild game when Miami's offense is on the field against Buffalo's defense. Both are trying to force reactions and not allow the other to dictate. That is why Miami is rolling. Big problem for Miami is the Buffalo defense is very fast at getting into the backfield. Those eye candy plays don't work if a defender is all ready in the backfield. The Bills defense will have to be aggressive and also disciplined. The Miami offense will have to be fast enough to not let the D contain them. I think McD will have some wrinkles to challenge them.

Defensive line needs to crash down on Miami's OL right up the middle. They have a lot of "where is the ball" trickery behind the line of scrimmage. Shovel passes, fake handoffs. Saw a lot of underhanded pitches to the running back running to the left. Nice thing about scoring 70 is they put a lot of their gimmicky stuff on tape. Denver couldn't stop any of it. I'm really surprised how bad Denver's secondary was. Receivers were given too much cushion on short routes and it was very easy to find soft spots down the field. Epically bad D the Broncos have. On offense, the deep ball is going to be available. Denver was hitting a lot of deep passes. Saw 2 nice long balls that were stripped from the WR and recovered by Miami. The Denver run game was actually pretty decent too. Denver easily could have scored over 30 but three really bad turnovers hurts. Bills take care of the ball, they win this game handily. Put some pressure on Tua. Play a nice balanced game on offense and Miami leaves Buffalo with a whimper.

9 sacks, 4 interceptions, a forced fumble and general havoc in the backfield all game......I'm in. Go McD! -
Over-reaction Three Weeks In.... Offense seems disjointed

Kincaid and Knox have been pretty consistent. I honestly believe the offense is so much different than last year, they are still figuring things out. 12 personnel is pretty foreign considering they only did it 3% of the time last year. Running the ball with RBs instead of relying on a read option and Josh possibly running is new. Josh is actually taking the snap and handing off in one smooth motion instead of scanning the D and trying to decide whether to hand off or keep it himself while the defense closes in. You can't really tell how good the running game is going to be until you actually start doing it against different defenses. It's early in the season. The offense is learning some new tricks. It will be interesting to see what new wrinkles they add throughout the season, but it is still early. Not everything will go as planned against a great defense, so the only thing you can really do is learn from mistakes and keep pushing the bar higher. If the players were so doubtful, they've all ready lost. -
I honestly think the play calling will improve as the season goes on. Just getting to a point where Josh isn't under duress for 4 qtrs is a major improvement. I was very impressed with how much time he was getting. Washington certainly still got some pressures but our OL held up pretty well. As far as play calling goes, it just seems like they are testing the waters on offense. Trying to figure out what plays and players they can consistently depend on. It almost seems like they still haven't opened up the play book. Maybe, I'm off here, but I'm not so certain the play calling is the real problem. I think they are looking for more players to become stars. Am I reading this wrong? Maybe it is brain farts on Dorsey part. I don't really buy that though.

This is the key. And a lot of it is scheme, which means some guys are blocking while others are running routes. I'd be curious how often TEs, RBs anyone not a OLman that is staying in to block. Might explain why certain plays aren't being called.

Th play that ticked me off was 4th down and half a yard to go. Josh lines up in shotgun and his pass is batted down. Why on god's green earth would you not run there. Other than that, I got nothing to complain about.

If our D gives up half that, I'd be pissed.

If our D gets after Tua the way they just did this game.....totally different ball game. 70pts though....sheesh. Is that offense really that good or is that D really that bad.

Need a little presnap motion to get the defense looking the wrong way. This team falls for it all the time. Come on Dorsey. -

I'm not discounting anything. I'm looking at the track record of both teams. Washington is clearly not in the same league, but if you want to worry, I'm not going to judge. Also, this is pretty much the same defense they had last year. They have some clear holes that I think will be exploited heavily by Buffalo. Washington has problems at LB in their secondary. They play an additional CB because of that and still can't stop anyone unless the DLine gets home. This team lives and dies by that DLine. Now, granted their QB is looking pretty good. I like him. Spreads the ball around, throws a nice deep ball in the face of a pass rush without flinching. He's going to be pretty good. Still, he doesn't have many starts and the Bills will throw some disguises at him. He is going to have his work cut out for him and I think the Bills defense has the better track record. On both O and D the Bills have them beat. Historically, this is pretty clear. Not that some team can't come out of nowhere to make a run. Seems to happen every year with some team. Not today though. The Bills are just more ready than the Whatevers. -

Why? The kid is doing good. Standing in the pocket with pressure coming and making plays. He's got guts and throws a nice ball. -

They also gave up a lot of sacks. As for that DLine, it isn't worth much if Josh is getting rid of the ball quick. Blowout....I can smell it. They aren't the only team on the field today that can create turnovers. Also, They need to come from behind to win in their first 2 game. Against AZ and Denver. Neither of those teams is Buffalo. What are you scared of? -

The Washington Whatevers😀. They have a great DLine, but nothing special outside of that on D. They can get after the passer, but have been fooled by different formations, misdirection and by simply mixing things up. They are going to have problems with Buffalo's offense. Big problems. Denver put up 33pts against them. I smell another statement game coming. A blowout even. The Whatevers are in for a wake up call. Go Bills! -
Depends on how wet the field is. Guys like Cook can break ankles the way he can cut and accelerate on a dry field. On a wet field the bigger backs can just hit there gap and power through. Don't discount passes to the backs either. Going to be a fun game to watch. I think Josh is up to the challenge and he's built some confidence with those quick passes. The Bills will be looking to take away the strength of that Washington defense which is their Dline. I still think Cook gets the lions share of the snaps. He's been pretty good so far. He could do well if he doesn't loose his footing on a wet field. He's earned it.

Your going to lose that bet.

Josh is going to continue to work those short area passes, getting the ball out quick and really frustrating the Washington defense. The difference between Wash and NYJ is they don't have as talented defensive backs. Feeling pretty confident that Josh is going to carve them up. I like their QB. He's showing some promise but now he's going up against a really good defense. Bills are going to win this game handily.
