I think when the front office left the cupboard bare by leaving pretty much only Stevie as a starter, there were opportunities to earn a roster spot for these guys. Kind of funny how everyone was panicking when we didn't resign anyone. If you are a college prospect, you want to go where you are going to have opportunities. This team definitely did. Give the FO some credit for what is happening here. I am blown away because everything about this draft looks like there was a great deal of planning involved. The Bills look like a team that hit the nail right on the head this time around.

How does Steve Johnson feel this morning, do you think?
Rockinon replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is real competition at the WR position. What that means is that every WR on the roster should be pushing hard to make the final cut. All of them know what is at stake, so all of them will need to compete. You can try and guess who should be the most nervous, but in the end I think they all know that they are going to have to put in the work and who ever ends up on top.........well, they end up on top. Don't think you can really read much more into it. -
Rd 4, Pick #105: S Duke Williams - Nevada
Rockinon replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This FS and the ILB both have made a lot of plays in the backfield. This is what Pettine does. He shifts people so that who you think is going to cover a guy isn't, and who you think is coming on a blitz isn't. It's an attack that disguises what the defense is up to. All of the defensive moves so far are all about finding a bunch of guys that can blitz from their position and also be fast enough to cover when someone else is blitzing. All of the talk about picking these guys because they have some off field issues is way off the mark. Yes, they want aggressive hitters out there, but they are not intentionally looking for psychos with off field issues. Seriously, you guys are cracking me up with this stuff. -
Rd 3, Pick #78: WR Marquise Goodwin - Texas

This pick seems like it's about EJ Manuel being the QB. EJ is very good at the deep ball. Now we have some burners who can spread a defense thin. If the underneath stuff ain't there, go over 'em. When those don't work, you know we can pound the rock. I also see some misdirection stuff like a reverse with these speedsters. -

Bills fear Jets will take Ryan Nassib
Rockinon replied to bobcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This^^^^ I keep thinking the Bills want to trade down, gain 2 extra picks. Then they can trade back up just ahead of the Jets in 2nd round and get their QB. -

I think the Jets actually are interested. Having Nassib would also give them someone who is knowledgeable of Marrone/Hackett offense. The funny thing is it is not the Bills who are spooked, it's the Jets that are spooked by the Bills. -
I worry we take a QB @ 8 just to placate fans

I want to be placated. -
When the smoke clears, we find out the Bill's never really wanted to trade down at all. That's just to prevent the Jets from using their picks to jump ahead of Buffalo. They take the QB they want, but it ain't Manuel........it's Barkley.

Tweets from Bills practice = AWESOME!

I kind of think there is a degree of optimism and a degree of pessimism in each of us. On the subject of the Buffalo Bills, I tend to be more of an optimist simply because I have been a fan for so long that I just can't see wasting my energy by being pessimistic. I want to feel good about them. As a young man, and an athlete, I always had a strong sense that simply believing in yourself and having people around you who also believe, can move mountains. It's an attitude for me to be more positive and more of an optimist. My wife and I sometimes disagree because she doesn't like to get her hopes up only to be disappointed in the end. She was never much of a sports fan. All of us have different ways of looking at things. My wife the pessimist, myself the optimist, we don't always agree but we have learned that we can at least accept each other for who we are. I don't always agree with all of you pessimists, especially the ones who like to do so in the name of so called realism. In my experience the things that are most real are the ones that you work hard at to make it so. It's the things you believe in first and then make it happen that count. When you put in the effort and something great happens, now that is real. If you put in the effort and something great didn't happen, at least you tried. But if you are to busy arguing to try, you are getting in the way. I guess as a fan, I see my job as supporting my team. I believe they feed of of us. What we give them to eat matters. -
I agree with the OP. It's because the QB class is so weak that the Bills will pull the trigger at #8. If they wait, the ones they like will all ready be gone by round 2. If any here think the Jets are not jockeying for a QB now that they have 2 1st rounders, you're nuts. They need a QB worse than us and may even try to trade up 1 or 2 spots ahead of Buffalo to get him. OK, maybe they won't trade up, but they do now pose a problem with the extra picks.
-
Jets just threw a monkey wrench into this plan. They now have 3 picks between our #8 and #41. And they are high on Nassib. What?
-
I think Manuel moved up but not that high. Pretty certain that Geno will be gone by #8. That leaves Nassib and Barkley. My theory is the Bills will take a QB with their first pick because it is the most important position on the team and because the pickings are so slim this year(It's also such a vital need on this team). They may trade down(kind of a gutsy move because I think they risk missing out on the QB they want). In any case, it's still QB with their first pick. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck........it's probably a duck. Who will it be...........???? Just speculation, but can't imagine any other position doing more to help this team than QB... so Nassib or Barkley.

I just don't get it. The Bills did all of their homework on this year's QBs. If they don't like the value at #8, then they trade down to get him. I just don't see a scenario where they trade down and still pass on a QB. Waiting until the 2nd or 3rd round for a QB poses a big risk. Any other position just doesn't seem to make sense. The only scenario I can fathom them not getting a QB in round 1 is if they don't like the value at 8 and they also don't have a willing trade partner to move down. If that is the case, it could be any of a number of different positions depending on the Bills draft board. They won't risk missing out IMHO though. I like the Kolb pick, but I do not see the Bills just handing him the keys without a real battle. I think the Bills are determined to get one of the top QBs in this draft and not a 3rd to 6th rated one, especially when the draft class is all ready considered less appealing. Waiting until round 2 or later seems too big of a risk to me.

Agreed. I want more picks. Get our QB and an extra pick. I like this mock except, I think QB should be the Bills first pick.........Barkley, Nassib or EJM

With all of the Safety visits, I would not be surprised if the Bills are not high on Vaccaro themselves. Joe Buscaglia has an interesting article on the subject.

Bills officially sign QB Kevin Kolb
Rockinon replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched that whole interview and actually thought Kolb sounded like an honest grounded individual. The statement itself did not sound like someone blowing wind out of their arse at all. He said that is why he was here and that is actually music to my ears. It will be interesting to see what he is able to do, but he definitely sounds like he is driven and that is a good thing. See the presser for yourself. This one on on with Chris Brown was pretty good too. They talk about his rib injury against the Bills too.
