Does anyone have connections in Chicago??
Rockinon replied to CountryCletus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do....but I ain't giving you my sister's number. -
I really like the Martin visit. Eric Wood was a college prospect that no one was thinking about and he turned out pretty good. He played guard his first year too. I think this Marcus Martin kid would be very similar. Someone who can back up Wood and will likely compete for a starting G spot this year. This would be a very shrewd pick up.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I don't think I have ever seen a rookie that didn't have bad habits.

Still hung up on the Mike Williams pick?

Here is what I noticed from last season. Manuel is a slow starter and warms up as a game goes on. I have yet to see him come out of the gate hitting his mark. This could be attributed to not having enough time to practice with his receivers. We will have to see. What I do like, in the heat of the game he tends to get more lively. I think he has the tools and I think he needs to be more familiar with the routes his receivers are running and simply know without having to think about it, where they will be. Another year in this system is going to help him. The injuries from last year, as far as I am concerned were a fluke. He can run. He can throw on the run and he can scramble for yards. There isn't much he can't do. His arm is strong and his accuracy, I believe is more a timing issue than simply missing his mark. Bottom line, I believe in him. This is going to be a fun year. The Bills are not going to give up on the running game. I view last year's rushing attack as a down year do to injuries. This year I see them bouncing back. This will be good for Manuel. He isn't going to have to do it all by himself. And when the game is on the line, we have seen him pull through with the passing attack(after he warms up). I like the kid. I like the way he carries himself and I like the way he works. In fact I have no reason to not believe in him.

Brandon Spikes Predicting two W's against Pats

A competitive ball player talks some smack and it makes headlines. So what's new? -
one more nonsensical draft thought
Rockinon replied to jumbalaya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If both of those QBs drop, the Bills will be getting calls from teams wishing to trade up. -
These make sense. I do think if an upper tier OT is there the Bills will take that(It's a most likely scenario and a big big need). However, if a someone like Mack falls to them, they may jump on the opportunity. None of us know who will drop to us. There seems to be someone every year that does. Teams have a tendency to go for pass rushers and pass protectors first these days so maybe we get neither. Perhaps we get an upper tier WR.

First round pick must be a pass rusher.
Rockinon replied to Buffalo Beeeews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't agree with the A. Williams part, but it would not surprise me if a pass rusher were to land in Buffalo's lap. If that happened, they could decide it's a better option than say a top WR or TE. Teams are finding ways to rush the passer from both sides these days. The days of having the best pass rusher only on the QBs blind side are gone. Every offense has their best tackle on that side. In regard to all of this, the RT position has become as important as the LT position because defenses are attacking the weak link instead of simply putting their best rusher on the QBs blind side, they are bringing heat on the other side as well. Look what happened to Buffalo this past year. Our RT gave up a lot of sacks because he was easy pickings. Point is, teams are bringing heat to both sides. It is not uncommon to see a team with 2 premier pass rushers and it is not uncommon to see teams with 2 premier tackles. The RT and LDE have very much increased in value. -
Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Rockinon replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trump said he was approached by a group of businessmen. Also said Kelly is staying in one of his apartments in NY. It's kind of interesting not so much because it is Trump talking, but because of what he said. It seems there is a group of businessmen looking into purchasing the Bills and it sounds like local businessmen. I wouldn't put too much stock in Trump as an owner because it merely sounds like this group is looking for investors. -
With all of the renovations to the Ralph, I don't see a new stadium happening any time soon. That doesn't mean that it won't...just not in the near future. Ralph's passing puts some uncertainty on all of this, but I agree. The Bills aren't going anywhere. The trust, I believe buys some time. No one will be buying the Bills right away. My attitude right now is to just sit back and enjoy the ride. There is no way to honor Ralph Wilson more right now than winning from the front office down to every individual player on the team. I think that will be best way to insure that the Bills stay in Buffalo. Win, baby!! What we can do to help, is go to the game and root for our Bills. If people want them to stay, we have to give them a reason to. Sell out all of our home games, honor the man who brought us this team and help pump up our players. It's not rocket science. Just show support in a way that convinces everyone that the Bills belong right where they are at...in Buffalo.

"See your guy, get your guy" doesn't only apply to QB. This year their guy is another position. I like it. But I rate OT, OG/OC higher than WR. I've actually been thinking one of the 2 top OCs might be a great choice. Someone who could fill in for Wood if he goes down and they can also play guard.
-
Glad I'm not alone. We have plenty of skill position players. What we need are the big men. I'd rate offensive tackle and guard as our biggest weakness. If one of these guys can fill in for Wood, that would be a bonus. Next would be another DE built like Mario. Are there any highly rated centers that can play guard? Wood started out that way for us.

KoBills. I really like the way you present your view, even though it is sort of long winded. I agree, that all of the armchair general managers have their own ideas about what the greatest need is and how to approach this years draft. It seems there are a lot more people who think WR is the greatest weakness. I am not so sure of this. Another thing that kind of gnaws at me here is how quickly we forget about the problems an offense has with a weak OL. It seems people want the sexy pick. The big fast aggressive WR is that pick. An offensive lineman is hardly sexy. They rarely get props for doing a great job, but a WR is the star that people see. Successful teams build dominant lines. We have the dominant defensive front with the possible exception of another big DE. The OL has a lot of problems and a lot of potential problems. If just one of our 2 best linemen go down to injury we are big trouble. Who is going to back them up? I see the OL as an area that needs extra attention. WR, not so much. Now as for how we do that. You are absolutely right about one thing. You are very much limited by what falls to you during the draft. If the 2 top OLmen are gone at 9. You may be better served going with another position. Who knows how that is going to play out? Not me, and not anyone else either. Not even Whaley. That said, the OL still needs to be bolstered. I want what I consider to be the Bills biggest weakness to be addressed. That's OL. And I really don't think the RT is the only position to keep an eye on. If Wood gets injured, we are in trouble. If Glenn goes down we are in trouble. If a WR goes down there are plenty of options still available. On OL that's entirely different story. This team has some dynamic players on offense now, but they are not getting it done on their own. They need a supporting cast. Woods appears to be very good and SJ is still pretty good. CJ and Fred are excellent backs and Chandler is not to shabby. This team has weapons but a lot of them are staying in to block instead of getting the ball in their hands where they can do the most to help. Our offensive line got run over too much last year and that's with all of the best linemen on the field. I see maybe 2 OLmen coming out of this draft and I really hope one of them is good enough to turn things around. See what ya started? Now I'm getting long winded. I'm outta here, for now.

Why draft a LOT to play ROT?
Rockinon replied to maryland-bills-fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that the Bills not only address the offensive tackle position, but also try and find a quality backup for Eric Wood. This OL is just one injury away from a complete disaster. What if Glenn gets injured? -
Report: Bills express interest in Kenny Britt
Rockinon replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nobody is going to trade for DJ. Philly will outright release him if they can't find a trade partner. Now under those circumstances, still not interested? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/22/now-everyone-says-desean-jackson-is-on-the-way-out-of-philly/ -
I don't see any WR helping all that much on this team when the OL is getting blown up as much as it is. WRs need time to get downfield and even though we have guys who can stretch the field, they aren't doing it. We saw EJ doing a lot of dinking an dunking for short yardage gains even though coming out of college his strength was intermediate to long routes. Can't believe how many people think a big WR is the answer. I still say the way to fix a problem is to attack the source of the problem. Get EJ time to throw and everything else falls into place. We saw first hand how a dominant DL helped last year. Why is it so difficult to imagine that a dominant OL will help as well? Put some dominant OLmen on the field and the entire offense improves both the pass and the run.
-
Wonder why Eagles are shopping DeSean Jackson. ProFootballTalk is reporting that they will release him even if they don't find a trade partner. Hmmm.
-
I can see the Bills going after a big DE. The offense seems to be what makes the most sense, but with our new defensive coordinator liking the 4-3, I would not be surprised. Either way, this team is most likely looking to build dominant lines. If I were to guess, the OL will be a bigger priority, but I would not rule out DE.
-
You may be right CBF. I definitely don't want to see our OL not addressed or worse, get some scrubs in late rounds. I'd be OK with a WR at 9 only if we get some guys on that OL who can actually turn things around.
