The only way a team with an established starting QB would be interested is if he renegotiated & got rid of the guarantees & roster bonuses. That's not happening, at least not in Buffalo.

1) I had a very similar impression. I think the starters took the don't get hurt seriously & it affected their play & effort. I'm sure Josh's #1 instruction was not to put himself in any danger. 2) Getting their asses kicked in Pittsburgh goes all the way back to the Jim Kelly era. Back then it was Kelly going home, now it's McDermott intimidated by Tomlin. You can't idolize the coach on the other side, that's McDermott's biggest problem coaching against Tomlin. Tomlin has been his idol since their college days.

The fact that the Bills took 2 WRs in the 1st 4 rounds (Burkett & Reed) says that's not true. Outside of Jerry Butler they didn't have much, and Butler hadn't played a regular season game since October 1983 on the day of the 1985 draft. The veteran WRs going into camp in the 1985 season were Butler, Mitchell Brookins, Julius Dawkins, Preston Dennard, Byron Franklin, Bobby Jones, Mike Mosley, Eric Richardson and Craig White. As a rookie, Reed moved right into the starting lineup with Butler.

HBO's Real Sports did a segment on this. It appears to be a common problem that isn't discussed enough. This happens about twice a week, about 100 times a year.
