My main gripe is the timing of getting surgeries. Rather than waste a year struggling, just get the surgery and let the team bring in a healthy body while you recouperate. The most likely fixing scenerio is a wealthy gambler pays a single ref to help keep scoring down or to help a team win. All it takes is a PI call here and there to shape the game. There are plenty of questionable PI calls every week. Very hard to detect. The NFL should closely monitor all refs bank accounts and lifestyles. If a reg suddenly has $25K deposited into their 401K, what is that all about? Or a brand new Cadillac shows up paid for. Or if not paid for, who's making the payments? Fixing is a real threat and the NFL should look for it aggressively.
