Kraft told the new regime to spend all the money. So they did.
-
They're still here and still believe that. They just keep that opinion to themselves now until Ty Dunne writes another article.
-
They had a lot of money to spend and needed to upgrade the WR room. They wanted HIggins, but he never hit FA. They tried to trade for Metcalf but he made it clear that he wouldn't sign there. So they threw money at Diggs. Not really surprising. They had over 120M to spend. They were going to spend it.
-
I would imagine that they sold him on a "team on the rise" that is just like when he was traded to the Bills. With that much money, it wouldn't take much to talk him into that.

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
Low Positive replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
Anyone who follows car guys on YouTube knows that it's not just the purchase price. It costs a TON of money to own those cars. Any Bugatti, for example, has $20,000 engine-out oil changes every 5,000 miles. A lot of people (not me) can afford the $150,000 it costs to buy a used Ferrari. Few can afford to actually own one. -
They had mroe cap space than they knew what to do with and an owner who is demanding an immediate turn around. This was predictable. If Higgins had hit FA, the Pats would have paid him Jefferson money.
-
This type of short-term thinking is what happens when the owner gives the coach/GM an ultimatum to win now or lose your job.

Throwback: Jim Kelly’s 1st NFL game 1986
Low Positive replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was at this game as a kid. I'll always remember the play where Kelly tripped at the LoS, got up, scrambled backwards, and threw a TD pass off his back foot. I turned to my dad and said "Joe Fergusson doesn't make that play." It's at 2:17:02 of the video. -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Low Positive replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
And if the Bills would have drafted DeJean, half of TBD would have shown up at Beane's house dressed in wrestling singlets armed with pitchforks and flaming torches. The overnight thread after the trade down was full of angry speculation that this was the plan. -
But we didn't know any of that. All we saw were some cryptic tweets and the dead cap number. It also set a bad precedent; complain enough on Twitter and Beane (and pretty much every Bills fan) will cave. We're seeing this all play out again with Cook. I'm not as hard on coaching as most here, but the Diggs situation is a poor reflection on McDermott. One of his primary jobs is to manage the egos in the locker room. The fact that it got to that point is his biggest failure as the Bills' coach. I mean, AJ Brown pouted all season on social media and was even reading a book on the sidelines during a game. Is he about to get traded?

I remember when my kids were little, my son (who was about 5 at the time) sat down next to me while I was watching the draft and asked me "dad, when do these guys stop talking and the game starts?" In explaining to him what I was watching, I realized that it was a waste of a nice spring weekend day. I still have watched every minute of every NFL draft since then, but at least I'm self-aware that I have a problem.

Keon Coleman FaceTimes Josh Allen - Funny
Low Positive replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
This result was very predictable. The posters that participate in the board during the offseason are, for the most part, negative posters. Even people who are not exclusively negative get pulled into the dark side due to TBD groupthink. You can't say anything positive about the Bills right now for fear of being branded with the scarlet H. There are a few narratives that are treated like scientific laws around here right now, and god help anyone who challenges them. Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid as irredeemable draft busts is one of them. Put on a flame suit if you want to challenge that. -
Because it made no sense and it should have been impossible. It was a very risky move that sort of worked out. I wouldn't have made it.

The strong reactions people have to mock drafts are kind of funny. -

Every team in the league has this same show. You think OBL is bad? Here is Dave Lapham gushing about a new hire for LB coach like he's a football savant.

It’s time for a generational talent, blue chipper

I've promissed myself not to engage in Internet arguments anymore, especially when my opinion goes against existing narratives. So I have no response to this. -

Exactly. People think that if Beane just wanted it as much as they do that it can be done but trading into the top ten from 30 is almost impossible. We want blue chippers, not generational talent. We want PTPers and a few Diaper Dandies. Sorry, the phrase "blue chipper" made me think about Dick Vitale and that made me think about college basketball. And then that made me think about "Onions!" -

The closest comp that I can find is what the Falcons gave up to get from 27th to 6th to draft Julio Jones. But that was a long time ago and it was a trade with the Browns.
