Yes, somehow we need to keep him close but I think this is his final year with us. It will be hard to lure him to coaching right away, the guy would probably want to spend time with his family or just play golf.

It's easy to understand now how in 2015, when Kyle Williams was lost for the season with injury, the lockeroom went down as well with the likes of Dareus or Mario Williams trying to lead this team. Without Kyle Williams' day to day guidance, they started questioning Rex Ryan's defense. I'm not trying to give a pass to Ryan but you can't be a malcontent when you don't like certain things. You have a problem with the coach, talk to him, you don't give up on an assigment, you don't fail to chip a TE going out on a passing route. Sompe players didn't care after Kyle Williams and it was embarrasing to watch (as was Ryan, though, but my point remains) You go out and do your best, always.

I think we should all be thrilled with this news because it means Allen is progressing with every snap or rep he gets. Baby steps from 3rd string to starter in this 3rd pre-season game. Bengals D will be a good test for the rookie.

Ducasse and Mills are putrid. They should not start. Play someone that sucks like them but at least care.

Allen's natural progression this pre-season indicates that he should be the starter, challenge him against a first string DL and D that will throw at him some game planning. If he keeps getting better against better opposition it will mean that he could be ready come September 9th.

We should bring someone young that will use this oportunity to showcase himself, I believe a veteran won't be too happy becoming a punching bag in a 4th pre-season game.

The impact will be seen in the regular season. Do you guys remember when we signed Alan Branch (2013 with Marrone)? He was putrid in pre-season games, I thought bakc then that he was a waste of roster spot, then came the season and turned the switch on. He was a very important player in the DL rotation, very stout against the run.

Allen misread the defense there, Benjamin found a soft spot on the zone coverage and Allen mistakenly tried to lead him with the pass. With experience he will be able to pick this up.

Peterman has looked good but in the end it might not matter because the future might be closer than expected. I think Allen has earned the start against the Bengals next week.

Redmond needs to get better with his shotgun snaps, they take an eternity to reach the QB.
