  1. I am very skeptical anytime someone raises the idea that a stadium or arena will fix a city's downtown problems, or provide an economic boost. But to draw any conclusions about what would happen in Buffalo from the Columbus experience would involve a pretty wild apples-to-oranges comparison. Casino operators bankrolled a state constitutional amendment some years back to allow legalized gambling in 4 cities in Ohio, and they sweetened the deal for voters by writing into the amendment language that funneled a chunk of gambling proceeds to public projects and entities. Well the promised proceeds never materialized. Gambling has become an increasingly crowded market space and the casino revenue projections were based on revenues from a point in time when a few midwestern casinos drew gamblers from across the midwest, because they were the only legal game in town. Ohio casinos will never deliver on the promises that the amendment backers made. So the article really doesn't say anything pertinent to the Buffalo situation except that regional governments should not look to any single source of income as a way to plug revenue holes, or underwrite magic bullet projects like arenas. It does say a lot about Ohio, however. kj
  2. If one of them got ROY and Comeback Player of the Year in the same season, I think that would be a first. kj
  3. And this shamed me away from piling on. Good work.
  4. Speaking of lawyers, I hope those two guys lawyer up. Anyone know if they have any legal recourse? It seems they are falling on the sword for Brady's preferred cheats. If they sue the Pats (as they are now synonymous with cheating, no asterisk is necessary) that would be interesting. kj
  5. As long as the team's owner doesn't also own a hockey team without a true first-line center, it's fine. Did we learn nothing from the pre-Pegula speculation? kj
  6. Come clean on Spygate, and explain why the tapes were destroyed. Give the commissioner a comfortable pension for life, including Bills seasons. Retire. kj
  7. I believe the story wasn't that he 'skipped out' on rehab but that he got permission to spend the afternoon golfing with his dad. This was during an approved break from rehab he spent with his family over Easter weekend. (Not that I am defending him, but he has enough marks against him without manufacturing stuff.) http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/04/johnny_manziel_enjoys_a_round.htmlkj kj
  8. I'm one of those who is confident they cheated. And you have every right to say I'm wrong. But you have no cause to attribute my judgment to jealousy or call me petty. Yes, the Patri*ts are better than the Bills, and have been since before my kids were born. And yes, they also have a track record of cheating (and getting away with it). The fact that they are a talented and well-coached team doesn't mean they aren't cheaters, too, as their history shows. Stop the name-calling. And read the terms of service while you're at it. kj
  9. I remember the last time I felt this excited about a Bills side of the ball. Before the 2012 season, signing Mario and bringing an 'experienced' coordinator in, plus some other signings I forget about, and our defense was going to be all world. I even started a thread very similar to this one, asking how you would attack the new D. I always think about that thread when I get excited about offseason moves. kj (I think I have my timeline right.)
  10. Buffalo Rumings says this is was an unnecessary move; pretty harsh, really. http://www.buffalorumblings.com/bills-news-notes/2015/3/18/8246483/kyle-williams-contract-extension-details-buffalo-bills-2015 kj
  11. I don't think that's a 1, but a lowercase 'L'. As in Lupati. kj
  12. Don't be silly. YOLO will start a new thread, and call it "Charles Clay to the Bills III: The Limbo Continues." Even Peter Jackson would have finished this story by now. kj
  13. I love that there is a word that doesn't really exist but everyone knows exactly what it means. Where would Joe Ferguson fall? kj
  14. Fred is a great story, no doubt. And he's a holdover from a sad Bills era where we had more good stories than good players. We were constantly rooting for guys to tap potential that no one else saw, to be that diamond in the rough that came out of nowhere. We had dreams of reaching the playoffs led by a QB from Harvard throwing to an undrafted free agent and a 7th round pick at WR, handing off to a RB from little Coe College via NFL Europe via the arena league. Fred was unique in that he actually did become the diamond. (Stevie and Fitz had their moments, too.) That era is over, thankfully. (It probably ended with the Mario signing. F5.) But as Fred ages, it is going to be difficult to watch him regress from good player to good story. I like good Bills teams, but I like good stories, too. Hopefully the team will find a good way to end this story. I'd hate to see him in the wrong uniform, as we did with Thurman. kj
  15. Don't confuse effort yelling with results coaching. kj
  16. And the quote came from a guy who quit on his team and squeaked to a winning record because the Pats pulled their starters, so he gave us neither effort or results. kj
  17. I'll 2nd Fergy's opinion. YOLO makes the board a better, more informed place. kj
  18. Several implications to the re-signing, all positive I think. In addition to those called out above, doesn't this move say something about Rex, too? Many here and in the media said that Hughes became redundant with Rex bringing in his scheme, but now re-signing him becomes a priority. Does this mean that Rex is going to change how he schemes his front 7 to fit the huge talent he has available? kj
  19. You bring up a good point. That sort of individual breakdown just doesn't seem well suited to the game of football, where an individual player's performance never (or maybe very rarely) happens in isolation and shouldn't be assessed in isolation. Unlike say baseball, where the sabermetrics stuff makes sense. (Or golf!) It just mistranslates what is happening. kj
  20. What an odd thing to say about a person: he brings out the worst in himself. Also, it seems to be true. kj
