  1. I'll try from the Sabres angle: Paul Cyr Shawn Anderson David Cooper
  2. That's Officer Ted Johnson to you. He's George Greene's partner.
  3. I don't know why people are so dismissive of the OP. It's a good point. What's the hook? What is going to draw the casual fan--like me (and I am a casual fan; I'm a Buffalonian but a hockey guy)--into the games? What's going to get the team to sell out games? I bid for the NE game last year in a charity auction, but I think I'd be hard pressed to do it again.
  4. I read the article. I've heard her sing. And I'm a former singer. Perfect pitch? No. Relative pitch? Better than most. Very talented, with the courage that only a child has? Absolutely. I'll root for her to make it bigtime.
  5. Astro, nice stuff, but it would be a little easier if three-letter abbreviations were used. I had to wrap my head around JT rather than the NYJ I'm used to, "MM" still isn't apparent to me, etc. Just a friendly suggestion.
  6. There were probably 4000 there who either were Pens fans or Crosby fans (there are a lot of Canadians who come just to watch him; they'd be rooting for Phoenix if that's where he played). The Penguins don't own Ryan Miller, but Crosby sure does. Today, though, it wasn't Miller's fault at all.
  7. He's wiry.
  8. Looks like I'm not the only one!
  9. Yep. The Internal Revenue Code is a fascinating place. It really sheds light on some things. (For the record, I don't think you need a background check to buy Sudafed; it's just quantity-restricted.) Back to Goodell: I wonder whether the comp for 2012 was so high because the bonus was tied to not missing any games due to the labor dispute. I haven't looked at his comp for other years (and I'm not about to do so today).
  10. Absolutely. You can find the text here: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/501
  11. Section 501(c )(6) of the tax code allows for an exemption for football leagues but not for leagues associated with any other sport. In fact, it specifically mentions professional football leagues. Someone had the right lobbyists around when 501 was amended.
  12. Haha not sure. But it's certainly possible: one of those Cherokee friends is a law professor who, earlier in her career, spent a lot of time trying to change NCAA team names (except the Seminoles, which is practically licensed by that tribe), so it's definitely a hot-button issue with her. Maybe geography plays a role, too. Most Indians that I know are southerners and preferred to be called "Indians" (if not by the name of their tribe), rather than "Native Americans," and that seems to be a little bit of a north-south divide. When I moved down there, I got quite a few lectures on "we're Indians, not Native Americans." Maybe the "redskins" thing is different from area to area too.
  13. 1) It's the only reason I can't root for that team, despite having lived in DC for a long time. 2) It really, really offends some Cherokee friends of mine, and I can't blame 'em.
  14. That, and college hashmarks, would be awesome.
  15. Eugene Marve? Chris Keating? I'm looking... Gardner was a hell of a blocking back, IIRC.
  16. Good call on Euhus. Forgot about him. He was forgettable.
  17. I was thinking about Hunter earlier. I don't remember Ramson.
  18. SS: Coy Wire (didn't read through five pages first)
  19. I'll bet the survey only considers the US. Yeah, that's what I mean.
  20. You didn't notice Matt Leinart starting in Seattle last year?
  21. I wish him the best of luck, but I just don't see how this survives. I hope he's just licensing his name.
  22. Good, because that story went nowhere.
