  1. Absolutely. You can find the text here: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/501
  2. Section 501(c )(6) of the tax code allows for an exemption for football leagues but not for leagues associated with any other sport. In fact, it specifically mentions professional football leagues. Someone had the right lobbyists around when 501 was amended.
  3. Haha not sure. But it's certainly possible: one of those Cherokee friends is a law professor who, earlier in her career, spent a lot of time trying to change NCAA team names (except the Seminoles, which is practically licensed by that tribe), so it's definitely a hot-button issue with her. Maybe geography plays a role, too. Most Indians that I know are southerners and preferred to be called "Indians" (if not by the name of their tribe), rather than "Native Americans," and that seems to be a little bit of a north-south divide. When I moved down there, I got quite a few lectures on "we're Indians, not Native Americans." Maybe the "redskins" thing is different from area to area too.
  4. 1) It's the only reason I can't root for that team, despite having lived in DC for a long time. 2) It really, really offends some Cherokee friends of mine, and I can't blame 'em.
  5. That, and college hashmarks, would be awesome.
  6. Eugene Marve? Chris Keating? I'm looking... Gardner was a hell of a blocking back, IIRC.
  7. Good call on Euhus. Forgot about him. He was forgettable.
  8. I was thinking about Hunter earlier. I don't remember Ramson.
  9. SS: Coy Wire (didn't read through five pages first)
  10. I'll bet the survey only considers the US. Yeah, that's what I mean.
  11. You didn't notice Matt Leinart starting in Seattle last year?
  12. I wish him the best of luck, but I just don't see how this survives. I hope he's just licensing his name.
  13. Good, because that story went nowhere.
  14. I hope the Raisins waste every penny on him.
  15. No. I don't want the refs having any more help giving first downs to the teams they perceive as good and denying them to the teams they perceive as bad.
  16. He is right. Fitz needs competition (actually, a replacement). He also needs some competition himself, unless he suddenly stopped dropping game-winning TDs in endzones. What, he thought we forgot?
  17. To say the least. Weird. What, the game needed a story or some drama? You're up by four big scores. It's ok. Settle down.
  18. Same here. Which, please, if people are getting high on him, DON'T. Read what ATL said. Read that I agree (and I also watch a ton of SEC).
  19. SB XXVII. Wow, this is bad. Oh well.
  20. I like Rome, but I guess he'll be down the dial soon enough if I want to tune him in. I also like Sal. I think what he really does is add so much to the morning show when he's on. The good formula for a sports show appears to be a knowledgeable guy and a sidekick, but the morning show has two sidekicks. And I like them both, but it's a better show when it's Howard/Sal or Jeremy/Sal than when it's Howard/Jeremy.
  21. I was thinking this until the Seattle game.
  22. Not that it's going to happen, but I wouldn't mind that at all. I like Chan's playbook, I just don't like his play calling. If he were left to design and implement the offense, with the HC making the calls during games, I'd be happy with it.
