  1. It seems like they want the passing offense to be based on an accurate pocket passer who can make quick reads and have a quick release. The Eagles and Pats* offenses are based on that concept. Other teams have tried basing their offense on a running quarterback and so far it doesn't seem to work long term. It all makes sense to me, but they can't seem to find the QB that can actually execute it.
  2. I think the young man deserves credit for setting a high goal for himself. He may never achieve it but he'll definitely work his butt off in physical therapy, which is usually quite painful. I would expect that down the line, he'll reconsider playing. But he's most definitely not stupid or selfish.
  3. I went with my usual plan when the Patriots are there: I keep an eye on the score, and then if the game is close in the 4th quarter, I'll tune in. Worked out pretty good this year, not so much last year. I do this primarily to avoid the hype and pre-packaged video vignettes that dominate everything about the Superbowl. This year my daughter and I spent most of the game watching the Puppy Bowl, lol
  4. Is 28 to 35 mill per year the actual range that's being talked about? Wow..........Cousins is a good QB but that would be really breaking the bank.
  5. Looks like routine stuff. There is usually a lot of movement with NFL assistant coaches during the winter. Seems to be an accepted occupational hazard.
  6. Standard "quotable" stuff........does anyone really believe this kind of stuff anymore?
  7. It also doesn't help that they lost the centerpiece of their defense in Shazier to a horrible injury. These are tough guys, but seeing that kind of injury had to shake them up for a while.
  8. I think this is going to be where the staff earns its pay (or not). If they nail the majority of the draft and plug in the right free agents, they'll take the next step. So far they've shown that they can make pretty good draft and free agent choices. This upcoming draft and FA period is "make or break" IMO.
  9. I've been watching pro football for a long time also. This was one of the few games where my jaw just dropped. I thought the game was over and almost turned it off because I thought the Saints had the game won. Glad I stuck around. I feel bad for the safety though.......his career with the Saints may be over.
  10. I've been a Bills fan for over 40 years, and I'm feeling quite positive about this season. At the beginning of the season the prevailing opinion was that the team would deliberately tank for a high draft pick. When they showed signs of being competitive, the prevailing opinion what that they might win seven games if they were lucky. No way they would make the playoffs. When they made the playoffs, the prevailing opinion would be that they would lose by a touchdown or more. In my opinion, they took a team that was significantly better than they were down to the wire. I think that this bodes well heading into next season because it shows that McDermott can do quite a lot with minimal talent, and keep a team together that was on the verge of falling apart after the Chargers game. Now the next test: what can the team do with a lot of cap space and plenty of picks in the draft?
  11. We don't get a lot of Bills games here (where I'm paying attention to everything), so most of the time I'm only half-listening since most of them sound identical. But Romo's work definitely stands out and gets my attention.
  12. I tried to read the article with an open mind. I think it's a mix of some fact, but mostly gossip. It was a little strange to trade Garappolo in mid season, but ultimately it's the owner's call and even Belicheck knows that. This brings back memories of Jimmy Johnson with the Cowboys. He went off to Miami in a tiff and it didn't work out for him. I think this proves that being a successful head coach is a pretty delicate balance of effort, personality management, the right players at the right time, the right owner, and luck. If he went to New York it doesn't automatically guarantee success there.
  13. If it was "profusely" then it probably wasn't coach. However if it was "furiously" then it was definitely coach.
  14. I'm 55 and was lucky enough to have season tickets for the Super Bowl runs. If this year's team gets hot and makes a run you're in for a real treat!
  15. Sorry, I was still a little stunned.......I was asking what the nature of the injury was since I saw him going off on a cart. Living here in Youngstown, OH now so I don't get the coverage. I did get to see the last two minutes of the Ravens-Bengals game since the CBS TV station contract calls for Browns games first, Steelers second, Bengals third.
  16. OK, so lots of ice and a nice tight ankle wrap and he'll play, at least we can hope.......
  17. High ankle? High ankle takes a lot longer.
  18. Just saw the highlights and it looks like Shady has a serious injury? Anybody know the status? Especially since we're really going to need him now!
  19. As one of the older guys on this board, I'll kick in my 1/2 cent on insider info: I'm sure Dunkirk Don's info is accurate...........as of today. But all of it can change by tomorrow. There's always a lot of chatter between coaches and front office people in the NFL, and it's a very complex mix of personalities and events that change every day. Assuming that Don's info is correct, it's all dependent on what happens to those players in the next few months. One of them could get hurt. One could get a last minute offer by another team that upsets everything else. It's interesting to read, but ultimately impossible to say that it's written in rock.
  20. Saw the play where Wentz was hurt............this is why you don't want your franchise QB running with the football, especially at the goal line. He was sandwiched between two defenders, and I had a feeling he was hurt as soon as he got up, although he tried to tough it out.
  21. Our group talked about it, but we decided to stay and not break our tradition of never leaving a game early. I noticed a lot of people who left the game at halftime and stayed in the parking lot to "drown their sorrows".......and then started climbing the fences to get back in. After a while, stadium security opened the gates, which was the smart thing to do. it was the greatest sporting event I've ever been to, although to this day I'm baffled as to why the Oilers' DC almost completely changed the defensive scheme that was working so well in the first half. The DB's went from playing tight coverage to lining up at least 10 yards off the Bills' receivers. Giving Andre Reed a couple of extra seconds to decide how he's going to juke the DB out of his pants is never a good idea. Don Beebe took advantage of it too. Once the crowd got into it, you could feel the momentum change. At the end of the game it was so loud that my friends and I were shouting and we still couldn't hear each other!
  22. I can totally understand why some fans want to see the team move on from Tyrod, but the question is: Who's his replacement? I don't see anybody in free agency except maybe Romo who would be an improvement. And even if Romo wanted to come here, he's a huge risk. He was having a hard time staying healthy behind the Cowboys line, and they're one of the best if not the best line in the league. Huge price tag also. And the QB's coming out for the draft will not be ready to start for a quite a while, if they make it at all. Cardale is a project that they could build on, but he's going to struggle if they try to start him next year. I think they're going to go with Tyrod because he's the best available.
