There are "ice time" bonuses that guys on ELCs are eligible for, but those are aggregate and per game relative to other players (on their own team and league wide). There aren't any that kick in for x # of games played, so they shouldn't have to prorate them. Though could you imagine how frustrated Olofsson would've been had he not scored his 20th against the Caps should their season have ended after that game. Finishing the year with 19 goals would've taken $212k out of his pocket (or more accurately that 20th goal put it in his pocket). If games are lost, there's almost definitely a player or 2 that will lose out on a nice performance bonus. Oh, well.

Nothing would happen to next year's cap unless they expect this season's alterations to effect next season's revenue projections. However, if teams are having to refund ticket & television money (and losing concession money) the players could take a MASSIVE escrow hit (possibly even so much as to having to cover excess withholding directly from their own pockets). Doubt that lost revenues will climb that high, but if they have to reduce the playoff tourney which drops TV revenue there will be a lot of unhappy players as they split 50%-50% all Hockey Related Revenues (HRR) with the owners.

Hadn't thought of it, but yeah, teams that are using BF-LTIR (Sabres technically aren't in that group anymore since they dumped Bogosian's salary because ELC bonuses can slide to next season) could be in a world of hurt if the regular season stretches too far out. But if those guys are back for the playoffs then the teams don't have any issues as the player salaries have already been earned / paid and playoff money is entirely paid from bonus pools and don't count against team salary caps.

Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread
Taro T replied to snafu's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, if they do cancel the convention and simply anoint Biden it kills at least 2 birds: It pretty much guarantees that Biden is their nominee and most likely prevents him from imploding prior to the convention in Milwaukee. Considering there's no way the DNC would let Bernie get their nomination, having Biden drop out prior to the convention gives them a chance to nominate somebody that won't be a drag on their entire ticket. And, it gives further evidence to anybody that still doubts that the DNC is tremendously corrupt. At some point, the rank & file Dems HAVE to see how little their top dogs care about the people they claim to fight for. Don't they? -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Taro T replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Nothing the administration has done to date regarding the Coronavirus had gone uncriticized, so no surprise the speech last night was criticized as well. Really don't want to see martial law implemented, so people need to do their part. Clean your hands well (that last part is what gets everybody) and don't be a putz. Unless you're elderly &/or immunocompromised you are almost surely going to survive this. But take reasonable steps to prevent yourself from contracting it & more importantly from passing it on. The person 2 people down the chain that you pass it to could very well be someone that this is life threatening towards. Don't hoard, but be prepared. Our society is set up to allow an unprecedented level of teleconferencing / working from home. If you can do that, do so. If your job doesn't allow you to do that, then go to work but be smart. If everybody actually thinks about the welfare of their neighbor, we'll get through this quicker and more successfully than if they don't. Do your part & don't worry about whatever action / inaction 45 or Cuomo, or whomever your governor is takes. The economy is tanking & will take a short term hit. But we'll recover. Be smart & get through this people. We're all in this together. -
Their call center has been much easier to deal with than they were 4-5 years ago. Have had XM / SiriusXM for the wife's cars for at least 15 years. Haven't ever negotiated down to the $5/month, but the $99/yr is our standard. It used to be at least a 20 minute phone call to renew (or more accurately argue, cancel, & renew). Now, have a notice pop up the day before the subscription ends and fall them and renew. The last couple of calls were only ~5 minutes each and not painful. Absolutely used to HATE making that call, because it was always a cluster. Now, still don't like it but it hasn't been an ordeal at least.

The Babylon Bee, America's Newspaper
Taro T replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The Bee made an embarrassing mistake as well. Clearly a typo, as they must have meant the uncle was 62. A 52 y.o. would be a Gen Xer and smart enough to not go repeating CNN's garbage. -

Pretty sure it'd be for the same reasons Geraldine Ferraro should've been the VP of the US. (No idea how that ACTUALLY makes her qualified to be the VP; but based on her track record, it can't be much more than that.) -
What have the Democrats done in the past Four years
Taro T replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
While my preference would be for all the wackiness of the Democratic Party these past 40 or so months to result in moderates either taking control or splitting off into an actual viable 3rd party that resets them back towards the mainstream; until actual Democrats (besides DR who seems to have left that party) start predicting the party will break up / have a reckoning, won't put much heed into the predictions from outsiders that they will. Too reminiscent of when the predictions were that the Republicans were going to completely splinter back in 2008 & even 2016. -
Funny. Can't stop hearing it in "L'il Opie Cunninghan's" voice.

If Abrams runs for VP, who will fill in for her as Not-the-Governor of Georgia while she's fulfilling her duties as Not-the VP? That job is going to carry tremendous responsibilities with it and only a true glutton for punishment would be willing to fill such a demanding post. -
Least offensive is probably accurate. But the fact that to the elite, he's "one of us" which goes along with his 50 year "I ride the train back to Delaware every night, because I'm one of the common people" schtick which worked fairly well with voters is IMHO a far larger part of why they've coalesced around him. Really doubt though that he'll be able to keep the schtick up now that the veneer has come off. So, it seems that decision will work about as well as Wile E. Coyote's schemes in the long run.

Everything Joe Biden--Gaffes, Miscues, Touching, Songs
Taro T replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, the Dems want nothing to do with spending a weekend at Bernie's, so ... -
Well, you hit on the 2nd one. Both Pete and Amy suspended their campaigns. Heard Pete was endorsing Biden. Haven't heard who Amy endorses, but would assume it's Biden.

This moron is about the right age for it. Did he NEVER switch to ABC on Saturday mornings at the top of the hour for "School House Rock?" No More Kings

Absolutely. As KRC stated, they'll frame it as simply rolling back prior tax cuts, but they'd definitely try to raise taxes significantly more than that. -

The best parts are the comments accusing her of being an anti-Semite for calling Bernie cheap but totally neglecting that she said Bloomberg paid for all the meals in the restaurant on that date. How DARE she stereotype all Jews as being cheap. -

So, somehow between 1988 and today he morphed from a plagerizer into Bill Walsh? We invented the forward pass in San Francisco. -

And they conveniently neglect how the most recent country to swap from capitalism to socialism went to hell in under 20 years. If the system was so great, and failure was always due to poor implementation, shouldn't the country that had 80+ years worth of examples to look towards have gotten it right? Presuming of course, that there is an actual right way to switch from capitalism to authoritarianism. Why did Venezuela get it so wrong if there was a right way to do it? -
Romney was winning? What credible poll predicted that? He had momentum heading into the final week, but as soon as Sandy hit & he stopped campaigning for a couple of days, the result was set.

Though Bernie might be the "benevolent" version of it, he IS communism. And whoever follows him won't be nearly as benevolent. And nobody considers him to be Hitler. His comparable would be Stalin (or maybe Trotsky).

Not sure if it was the last time, but CBS called Florida for Gore before the panhandle was done voting. Always wondered if that suppressed or goosed the votes for W. Either way, the call was premature and incorrect.
