The WHO also was still criticizing him for cancelling flights from China nearly a week after he'd done so. Yes, he should've shut travel with Europe sooner, but when he's dealing w/ advice like that from what is supposedly the world's most prominent authority, it's a bit tougher of a call. And, he's correctly been leaving decisions that belong at the state level with the governors. There's been guidance, but that's what it should be. Considering all the conflicting info that's been put out there, consider that both 45 and Cuomo have done fairly well with this. (Though both have made missteps.)

Been working from home for a long time, so that isn't much different. But had a few standing meetings that have been cancelled / gone virtual and also now no face to face meetings with clients which is weird. Fortunately, wife is still working full time but 50% is telecommute. Have some clients having very tough times of it, so much so, that I might not get paid by a couple. Stinks, but am still better off than many. Good luck to all.

The reports out of the Czech Republic are that their test kits have an 80% failure rate. (i.e., you'd be better off assuming the opposite of what the test results are) and out of Spain that their test kits are getting better with only a 30% failure rate. That kind of "help" ain't help.

And, unless they are ABSOLUTELY the only provider of medicine / equipment, wouldn't accept any "aid" from them either.

Don't mind seeing the red helmets for throwbacks to those early '90's unis. Really like the current blue shirts with white pants and white shirts w/ either blue or white. Only tweak to make if better would be to go back to the blue face masks rather than the current gray ones.

Hoping like heck that there is more nuance to this than 140 characters allow. Because if some twit in a position of authority & credibility really is recommending that people leaving the largest concentration of corona virus in the country not to self quarantine upon leaving, he is setting people up to unwittingly kill their new neighbors.

There is a strong chance this will backfire on them, but they still might have 1 more card in the deck. If 45 is seen as pushing too hard/fast to reopen society and we see a second wave after that, he will get hit harder by the D's and the media than he has been on anything else to date. (And they've hit him hard to date.) This whole episode is unprecedented and there will be missteps along the way. Those will be portrayed as apocalyptic. Remember, in the spring of '91, 41 had record high approval ratings. One very minor recession which we we coming out of by November '92 later and he was out.

That's essentially what B-Man said. Still trying to figure out where this "exchange stabilization fund" language exists in the actual bill. It must be in there somewhere as both sides are talking about it; but would like to see what it is as it is actually written to understand who, if one side, both, or neither, is being unreasonable about it.

Not intentionally being daft, but not seeing "exchange stabilization" funding in S. 3548. Is that from a separate bill?

Does anybody know where in the Senate bill the "$500,000,000,000 slush fund" talking point comes from? It looks like the "discretionary" money available for distribution to large businesses is $150B. Didn't see a cap on the size of the loan/ loan forgiveness program for small businesses, but did see a cap on individual loans at $10MM. Maybe that program is estimated to be $350B, but that doesn't seem likely. (Edit: the $150B doesn't include the business funds specifically allocated to the airline industry.)

How do you mean he'll "reopen" the economy? The individual governors have been, properly, the ones shutting down individual states. Can't see NYS fully reopening for at least 4 more weeks absolute best case.

There's actually provisions for that in the Phase 3 bill that was voted down last night for those SBA Loans to be forgivable (aka grants) in the Division A - Small Business Interruption Loans provisions. (Thanks to @DerangedRhino for posting that last night.) That is probably the single greatest portion of the Phase 3 package (if it ever passes). Those funds are supposed to be available until the end of June and could go miles towards keeping businesses that are currently getting crushed like restaurants and barbershop viable and their employees able to pay their bills.

DR, do you have a link to the House's (or the Senate D's) bill? Couldn't find it on the house.gov website. You usually seem to find these pretty effectively. TIA.

His aiming nearly all his barbs at the Chinese government rather than other Americans certainly helps the approval ratings. (There's still a few shots at "journalists" but most of those are deserved IMHO.)

Yep. 1 day after he mandated offices make 1/2 of their workforce work from home, he ups it to 75%. Yesterday's Executive Order seemed to exempt a lot of businesses / business functions. Not sure if the exemption list got adjusted with today's EO. (It won't publish on the governor's website until tomorrow.) Wife is now working from home 1/2 time. Not sure if that will increase as there are only 2 people that perform her function.

Agree that they accepted China's false information about the ability to transmit the disease from person to person and also that test kits in China were defective. Were the German kits the ones the Chinese were using? Had thought the Chinese used their own test protocols. And also understand that the WHO did NOT offer test kits to the US. But, haven't seen anywhere that the German kits (which were the basis of the protocol that the WHO shared to 3rd world countries) were defective. Were those defective too?
