  1. As a pass catcher . . . OK, that's been covered (and I know the position is wide receiver). But Gabe Davis was a superior blocking WR and I'm wondering if having him around for practice is part of the same theory of strategy that brought back Poyer and Phillips (before the Carter injury): the old dogs somehow influence how the new guys develop. Look, if you go deep into your Practice Squad for game-day players you're in trouble anyway, so let's not treat the PS like it's just a hair below the first string. There's plenty of room for guys who can help in other ways.
  2. Maybe not the biggest after the Jax/Cle trade or Grant at 13 or Dallas drafting a guard or etc., etc., etc., but I was surprised Philadelphia gave up a 6th to move up ONE spot for the Alabama LB. It only makes sense (to me) if Philly was absolutely salivating over the LB and was sure KC would take him without the trade. Like the Bills, 10 rookies or however many picks Philly had are not going to make the team anyway so burning a 6th is probably not a big deal, but still . . . to move up ONE spot?
  3. I absolutely agree. I was trying to have fun with it but sometimes fun at midnight isn't as funny as you (that is, I) think it is.
  4. Ok, explain this to me. BR starts with "Hairston is a long and rangy cornerback prospect . . . at 6'1". But then in its own measurables BR says he's 5'11". So . . . ?
  5. Does anyone else remember Reuben Gant? Or Eric Flowers? Or Tom Ruud?
  6. This is what I've been thinking but without a lot of confidence. I believe Beane will take a shot on Garrett but (1) there's a lot of competition for him, (2) Cleveland should want him as far away as possible (= NFC) if they do decide to trade him, and (3) I don't think Beane will be as hellbent bat sh*t crazy to do a deal no matter what as some other GM(s) might be. Maybe Metcalf?
  7. Re Rizzi: you may be right. But he's from around here (North Jersey) so the Jets wouldn't be the biggest surprise.
  8. As a Bills fan I'm always ready to panic. Why hasn't he signed yet when everybody else has?? TALK ME OFF THE LEDGE.
  9. True. And throw in there that for some reason Gase doesn't like Bell. I am NOT saying Gore replaces Bell. I'm saying Gase will like having him around unless and until Frank's skill set forces him to do something else.
  10. I see your logic, but here's my problem: for years (with Brady) the NE offense was based on quick reads and getting the ball out on seams and curls and other short-to-intermediate stuff, with just the occasional long pass. It also exploited mismatches at TE with Gronk, which didn't happen in '19 so the NE offense scratched around for points more than it was used to while its D (which has lost some people from '19) controlled the game. I don't know if Cam can play that kind of O, especially without a normal offseason. And it may be even worse if they redesign the O to fit him without a normal offseason. Now I'll just stand back while other people tell me how wrong I am.
  11. Taco signed with the Chiefs this morning. Remember when it seemed like the Patriots could sign anybody and the salary cap never mattered? Doesn't it seem like the Magic Payroll charm has moved on to KC?
  12. Agreed. I'm surprised the Globe indulges the stuff but I guess I shouldn't be.
  13. Cue the next Patriots-are-in-cap-hell-but-they'll-cheat-their-way-out-of-it thread.
  14. Are you sure you're not thinking of Will (and Sean) McDonough? Will McDonough was a classy reporter for both The Boston Globe and NBC and I don't recall Sean ever badmouthing the Bills. Shaughnessy is primarily a baseball writer who is pandering to his local base here when he has nothing else to write about. I wonder how many Bills (or Jets or Dolphins) games he's even watched.
  15. Can someone here confirm for me: for dead money purposes, a retirement is the same as a cut, right? So a team can't fix a cap issue like that by just letting a player walk into the sunset?
