Name me one starting NFL qb who Trent Edwards...
Spiderweb replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Brees' college success led to projections that he would be a mid-to-late first round draft pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, but he slipped due to concerns about his relatively short stature for a professional quarterback (6'0"), a perceived lack of arm strength, and a sense that he had succeeded in college in a system designed for him." Pessimistic Fans Should be Heard Too
Spiderweb replied to mpl6876's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a message board. A place where optimists and pessimists (seemingly a majority) can co-exist. In fact, they should well be able to feed off each other. Makes for a healthy exchange of ideas and opinions. But I am curious as to why you think anyone will really give a crap what you said now by mid season. Even if you are right by mid-season, there won't be any Nobel prizes waiting for you..... -
Lets look at Maybin for a moment. He was basically a one year wonder at Penn State. Not the most experienced player, especially considering where he was taken in the draft. He's now having to learn a new position. This may well take more than just some OTA's and mini-camps. With that said, he was a bad pick in 2009 and a year later, he's shown nothing to change that. While he may prove to be a good player still, the likelihood seems to be diminishing rather quickly. With many here wishing for Orakpo and myself looking for Oher, this was yet another Bills first round disappointment for us. Will Maybin change our minds? It is looking like that won't be happening.

There are plenty of sports "journalists" and reporters covering the game as it stands today. Larry, bringing with him the history of the game and the old AFL days, is frankly quite refreshing. Sadly, when the facts begin to get distorted, or confused, then it may be time for Larry to find another avenue for his passion. Before Pat Summerall "retired" it became very painful to listen to him. Van Miller wasn't the same his last couple of years either. Age doe slow one, and the mind does not always stay sharp either. That may not be politically correct to say, but there is truth there.

Sir, you have issues that none of us here can help you with. And by the way, Bruce was an ass in addition to being one of the all time greats. Schobel played very well (not to Bruce Smith's level of course) but very well none the less. ......and YOUR posts are the most racist posts I've read at this site.

........hummm....I can recall many a time in my youth over-indulging myself with spirits. I guess that's a crime? It's youthful indiscretion, unless of course, it goes beyond one's youth.

It's a given that Schobel always showed up ready to play and was one of, if not our top defender the past decade. However, the stupid way he's played his cards, that is he put out the "retirement" thing, and then said he wasn't coming back (but would consider playing if the Bills called upon him during the season), which all boiled down to his desire to play near his Texas home. Fine. Had he made his wishes known only to the Bills, and given them a reasonable time frame to get something accomplished (or at least try) before going public, he wouldn't have destroyed his trade value with respect to what the Bills could have received if he had kept his mouth shut. With the Bills going to a 3-4 defense, they may well have been inclined to try to work something out for him. But no, stupid said he was likely going to retire, then blah, blah, blah. Had he left anything for the Bills (some trade value), we should all have wished him well, but since he's played this the way he has, may he rot forever as under contract to the Bills. As of now, he's a did not report (fine him). Let him turn in his retirement papers, but do NOT give him his release. He played his hand badly and definitely should not be rewarded for it. Sad too, because I liked Schobel, until he left the Bills with no options. He was paid pretty darned well to play for the Bills so he shouldn't have to clip coupons to get by even if he never plays another down.

You had the entire planet's female population to pick from, and Lindsay Lohan and Brittany Spears were the two you came up with? I guess that's why old Archie called you meathead....

Roger Goodell 'It's clear' NFL no longer needs
Spiderweb replied to BillsFan-4-Ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that it's well past the time to change the IR rules. Frankly, I never truly understood why it had to be for the remainder of the year. Also, giving teams a bit more flexibility with the roster would also be a good thing. -
A tramp is not necessarily a visual thing, no matter how much your poor attempt to be witty insinuates it is. And while you you may not be able to grasp it, I do not find her overly attractive (in part because of her deportment). Also, I'm definitely not a fan of rear ends that need a separate seat for each cheek. That bubble may be your cup of tea, but I'll pass......

My thoughts exactly. Eva is a 9, Kim is a tramp.....

If Thigpen is cut, Gailey will pick him up
Spiderweb replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, which Fitzpatrick did you watch last year? Maybe you just saw one out of 5 throws, the few good ones. Fitzpatrick has got to have the most inconsistent arm I've seen in years. One great throw, one wild miss, a wilder miss, nice catch by the receiver on that crap throw, and "where in the hell was he throwing that one?" I like his intangibles, but the scatter shot he has for an arm drives me nuts, which isn't to say "Captain Checkdown" makes me feel much better. -
We now have 5 tight ends, who stays / who goes & why??
Spiderweb replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jeez, the first time in years, the Bills seem to have some actual choices regarding the TE position. Nelson has the size, speed, and what appear to be excellent hands. He could be the secret sauce. A TE who can catch and run. Gailey brought in Matthews so I suspect he stick, and having a 270 lb TE who can block is not a bad thing. He also has shown to be able to make some nice catches as well in the OTA's to date. I would put Schouman third. The biggest issue last year with our TE's is that they too frequently had to stay in to block since the O-line struggled so much last year with growing pains and injuries. -
Question WRT The Spiller Selection
Spiderweb replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bill, your position on the state of our offensive line is well known, and accurate. Yet, we do have two players, Levitre and Wood (coming off serious injury though) that appears to be very talented and will only get better and stronger. Their second year should be one in which they begin to blossom. Bell may turn out well, or may simply be what he showed last year, but the physical tools are there. Meredith, Calloway, and Wang could provide needed talent and at this time of the year, I prefer to be hopeful. I temper my enthusiasm, but have still some hope. At least we appear to finally have real football people making the decisions. This in and of itself, is a pleasant change. Spiller could just be the type of back one simply couldn't afford to pass on. The tools are there. Once the top two tackles were gone in the draft, I agree that Spiller was the pick. What has been a bit disappointing is that their are/were a couple of tackles out there that could have been very helpful, yet nothing yet has happened and doesn't appear to be forthcoming. This team will need yet another strong draft and possibly one or two key FA additions before I expect to see any real success. -
Angelo Crowell just got released by the bucs
Spiderweb replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Covington, if I recall correctly, was hurt in pratice during the season (knee) and was never able to come back from the injury. -
....and the $39.99 was their discounted price, in which the $49.99 price returned after the promo was over. I thought about it last year but when I went back to sign up, the $39.99 price was gone. When you sya the pix was disappointing, how so? Did it play decently on your PC monitor, but not when fed to your HDTV? Clearly it's not The Ticket HD quality, but the preview was watchable. So the preview quality (Pitts SB) isn't representative of what one would get?

trade package with Schobel and Lynch.
Spiderweb replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whether it's a single extra day off, or the whole week, you're both guessing what his request was. At this point, it's clear that he wants to play, but under his terms or with a "local" team..... He also said that once the season began and if the Bills came calling, he'd have to think about it (meaning, he wants no part of the OTA's, and camp as well). I suspect he'd jump at the chance to play for the Texans, however. Now, as a Bills fan, if he would have simply requested a trade, instead of his feigning retirement, I would have tried to work something out, but since he destroyed his trade value himself, I would not give him an outright release. He's "retired", list him as such. Schobel did not play his hand well or intelligently. -
Sal is kinda fun from time to time (sat in on a few of his post game wrap-ups last year). Yet, he has a penchant for getting on a rant and ruins whatever point he's trying to make by beating it into the ground. Sal is what he is, and that's a real Bills fan who sees himself as a legitimate show host. He's not quite there yet, but he could be someday and I give him credit for doing what he does now. Tune in on his post game shows, and his weeknight shows. Some are pretty good (meaning he's had some clunkers too)! Moran on the other hand can simply go away...............

Sure, if McGee or McKelvin are injured or maybe even just nicked up a bit, their speed may not be there. But wouldn't this be the same for any CB? McGee and McKelvin weren't the great Kickoff return men they were (and hopefully still are) because they ran 4.7 40's. Both have excellent speed. Ability to cover man for man may be of some concern, but speed isn't something I see them lacking.

I agree as well. Injuries are already a huge part of the game, not to mention what these guys lives are like after the game ends for them, and to lengthen the season is a horrible idea... It is purely for the Benjamins and will add nothing to the game, and the season. I would shorten the preseason to three games as well, for all teams. It does give coaches a sample of what the new guys can do with live bullets flying. Three games is enough though, as the vets can get in some work and be ready for the regular season as well.
