Why call 3 pass plays with 1:30 left in OT?
Spiderweb replied to DFITZ1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, but then come back with a run or two.... But in OT, they also went pass happy when runs may have been more appropriate, especially with KC playing pass (as we were obviously committing to do). Yet had Fitz thrown that pass to Spiller a tard and a half shorter, everyone would be singing praises of Fitz.... -
Howard was far more embarrassing than was Bell. Kelsay and Whitner? When has either ever shown up to play? We should have had two picks today. First obviously was dropped by Wilson. The second was after Flornece batted a ball away, Whitner was horribly slow trying to get to the ball that fell harmlessly to the ground.

What does CJ Spiller have to do to be Jamaal Charles?
Spiderweb replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spiller has a line that simply opens very few holes, compared what the opposition does to us. Our D line and LB's are horribly lacking. Spiller also runs tentatively to me, he runs as much in and East West direction, and needs to temper that with a stronger does of North South running. Find your spot and go. Hard to give a guy more carries when ball security may be an issue as well. This was the kind of game that is extremely demoralizing, one blown opportunity after another. However, I do award a game ball to KC Haley and one for Weiss, for allowing Cassell to throw. Had they just simply ran the ball all day, our Bills would never have been in the game. -
Yeah, maybe, but give it a rest. Fitz also threw 2 horrible picks against the Pats and the Ravens to contribute heavily to those losses. Sure the D sucks, but Fitz and any Bills QB has to stop making the huge mistakes and miss-fires that plague Fitz. Today, Fitz was Fitz. One good throw, one mediocre throw, two horrible throws, a decent throw....etc. He had help today, mostly from a run defense that is the most pitiful run D I have ever seen. Also, Howard at RT was brutal today. Hali owned him, lock, stock, and barrel. Yet, despite it all, the game was there and Fitz simply came up empty multiple times when one key play, and the game was over. He had his shot at the end of regulation and twice in OT. 0 for 3 when one key play gives us the game. It was there for the taking and Fitz said "no thanks". Fitz is a heartbreaker. He plays hard, has moxy, has guts, but his arm betrays him, the Bills, and us over and over again. His INT in the final seconds was a brutally horrible throw, and one gets tired of seeing balls slip out of his hand when throwing, along with his wildly inconsistent accuracy. Fitz the "Heartbreaker". Brohm may turn out to be a bum, but we may get to see him soon.

Didn't see that, but it may simply fall into the who cares category at this point. The Bills had their chances today, played hard, but simply did not make the Game winning play despite having multiple chances. This one was heartbreaking....

Say what you want, they showed heart today.

Taht run defense is top notchs, isn't it? I also love how Fitz comes thru in the clutch..... Cheap shots, yes, but unless or until these change, it's hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. -
Time to let bygones be bygones gents.

Howard simply played poorly all day. Hali owned him, without a doubt. Not a good sign. His game against the Ravens was journeyman like, but the quick drops and throws helped tremendously. Today, Fitz wasn't as quick and Howard's play was far more noticeable.

Why call 3 pass plays with 1:30 left in OT?
Spiderweb replied to DFITZ1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No run plays to close that last drive in regulation either. After the deep ball to Spiller, why not sprinkle a run or two in? The Bills today ran virtually no play action either as they never seemed to be willing to try to run the ball. Sure a run here, a run there, no real effort to establish the run. Maybe they felt they simply couldn't. Sure was a horrible disappointment. -
While I would agree you didn't cross any line that I was aware of, generally the IRC chat is the better of the two, by far. Yet, I will disagree with you regarding the elbow. Yet, Corner came down on top of a player who was out of bounds and his elbow may have been moot anyway.....so any argument about the elbow was moot.

Fitz just continues to fail in the clutch. He is breaking our hearts with spirited play, only to let us down when the game is on the line..........how depressing.

My first prediction in 20 years
Spiderweb replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, that was in my mind when I wrote my post. My step dad at the time, told me there would always be next year. Hummmmmm...it took a bit more than a year.... -
OT: Buffalo makes another top 10 list...

Also, if you get a heck of a home for less than National Averages, you still have to deal with NY taxes...... -
Are there any "hidden gems" on this defense???
Spiderweb replied to DUFF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Drat, I was going to add of course we've got a number of hidden gems, but they're well hidden. That's why they're "hidden gems". -
Jeez, take off the rose colored glasses, will ya? 2009 showed a Fitz who threw 9 Tds against 10 Ints with a QB rating of 69.7. Pretty poor numbers there. Yes, Fitz has proven to be far more effective than Edwards, but heck, how hard was that? Fitz was playing well against the Pats, up until those two wildly inaccurate throws that were picked and sealed the win for the Pats. He played fairly miserably against the Jets( 12-27 for a whopping 128 yards, with about a third of that coming in the 4th quarter after the Jets were up 38-7 and coasting. After the game, Gailey has said he was about to give Brohm some playing time, but since Fitz got the Bills a score with 9 minutes left in the 4th, he decided to give Fitz another series, in which the Bills did squat. That was not a good performance, but Fitz wasn't alone, the O-Line was horrible that day as well. Pedestrian would be the best way to describe his performance against the Jags. Nice garbage time TD to Johnson in the 4th made his stats look better than he was effective. In truth, his best games, against the Pats and the Ravens, were both marred by his two costly interceptions in both games. Fitz is the proverbial "almost" QB. More than adequate in a backup role, yet.......

1967 Bills, defensive line - McDole, Dunaway, Sestak, Prudhomme, Meredith ???? Hummm.

Well stated. I'll be excited about "Stevie" if he proves out solid over a couple seasons. He is benefiting a lot from Lee drawing top coverage, and being relatively unknown. Will he be able to produce going forward. Time will tell. Personally, I like that David Nelson kid alot and he shows well for the little time he gets. We also have Easley coming back who looked very good in camp this year. We may actually have ourselves a solid WR corp for the next few years. Now that Shawn Nelson is back, I'm more than curious if the Bills and Nelson will be able to put his speed (for a TE) and what he has shown to be good hands to use.

Buffalo News Vote For Worst Player In The NFL
Spiderweb replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The average career of an NFL player (per the NFLPA) is 3.3 years. -
Exactly. Montana did not possess a cannon, Brees isn't considered as a "cannon" armed QB. Adequate arm strength is required, which Fitz seems to have particularly when he can step into his throw. Like Flutie said many times before (queue the flames), being good QB is about making good decisions. I would say that Fitz's weaknesses are his inconsistent accuracy, followed by an occasional lack of good decision making. Despite his flaws, he does bring heart and desire and a considerable degree of fearlessness to the field.

My first prediction in 20 years

Great day to you as well, and we;ll be watching. Hope you're right. I've always hated KC and Hank Stram for the beating they gave Buffalo in the 1966 season championship game. After the bomb to Dubenion, we did little offensively the rest of the day and our D wasn't able to contain KC. It was a bad loss. It also marked the first Bills game I watched from kickoff to finish. -
No, you're weren't wrong for coming back. You add much to this board, unlike Mr. Wonderful. Don't let the likes of Mr. Wonderful, a coward with a keyboard (always an irritating combination), from adding to the quality of this board.

Chan Gailey: Defense might take time
Spiderweb replied to The Wang From Sang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree that the loss of Schobel has hurt what little pass rush we've had the past few years, but teams weren't living in fear of our pass rush last year either. Byrd still has been a disappoint to date this year. He's been badly out of position and also beaten badly on a number of plays. -
Chan Gailey: Defense might take time
Spiderweb replied to The Wang From Sang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually 5 or 6 serious playmakers with fill around them would likely do the trick. We thought we had a playmaker in Byrd, but he has been very disappointing this year so far. -
I too believe Corner's elbow did come down in the end zone, but you bring up a good point, and that is that Boldin was out of bounds with Corner on top of him (contact) before the elbow came down. What I still don't believe about that play is how in the world did the ref's let the pass interference escape them. Boldin clearly had a firm grip on Corner's right arm. It was right there in front of them. That's what was the horrible call.
