  1. Probably none of you have heard of this fella, but if one is interested in experimental fiction with scifi elements, R. A. Lafferty is a favorite of mine. Neil Gaiman speaks well of him.
  2. You could always try again. I've read some novels a half dozen times over the years. They change with you.
  3. Trenton Simpson is a better choice, imo. His ceiling is higher and I think he's a closer replacement for Edmunds' role. Campbell is very easy to root for and I'll hope he is better than I suppose if selected, but just now I'm irritated by the large consensus in his favor. I'm not seeing the player many of you do and I suspect the intangibles are overriding what is actually on tape.
  4. I'd love it, but I suspect he might go late first and somehow I doubt Beane takes TE over D if they make the trade.
  5. And the rejoinder to this objection has also been talked about. He still has to agree to any restructure on the contract that might be necessary for teams to fit him under the cap. He does have some say in where he ends up.
  6. I think you are discounting D too much, but I essentially agree with the main thrust of your argument. They better draft someone who can step in and play RT if the Brown experiment fails.
  7. I'm too old to risk ecstatic. I'll go with very happy.
  8. That's a good choice, too. I like him quite a bit, but you might get a pretty good DT at 59 and someone serviceable at 91.
  9. There are a lot of good choices there. Bergeron is one of my favorites, but I think Avila contributes now and will be an above average starter. Trenton Simpson is tempting and he's a better choice than the popular Campbell. Campbell might be there at 59, Simpson won't. When the field is winnowed, I'll reconsider and look over everyone's thoughts. I'm giving an initial vote for Avila. I really like Josh Downs and he should be on the list. He's going to be a plus slot imo and would jump to the front of the line ahead of Shakir, imo.
  10. I would take Simpson before I take Campbell, probably Sanders, too. Awhile back two older comps proposed for Campbell were Posluszny and Jack Del Rio. I think he's a high floor guy who comes in ready to play. I don't think there's much ceiling above where he is. He's a second rounder to me with an attractive work ethic and leadership qualities. I would take him at 59 unless I did not pick up OL earlier and Matthew Bergeron were on the board. I believe OL needs more attention. I think the FA guards are adequate players. Maybe they end up better than that, but I'm not counting on better than that. A young C to groom behind Morse is needed unless you think Bates is the future C (maybe he is.) Brown is the fella I think is too big a gamble not to have a young RT alternative. I am more worried about that than MLB. I also think LB like RB is a devalued position in the draft. If you have an extraordinary outlier or a player like Nolan Smith that might be DE or OLB in different systems, that elevates the value. Otherwise, I wouldn't spend an early pick there unless it was the final piece in the puzzle. Those who think that or think Campbell fills the most urgent hole on the team will make a different calculation.
  11. I like the current rb room. I don't think Cook or the recently signed Damien Harris are getting cut. Hines renegotiated. They have been looking at rbs in the draft, so it's possible they bring someone in. I'd be shocked if they spent another day 2 pick, let alone a first at the position.
  12. Breer does seem plugged in. Gibbs is a really good player, but I just can't believe they would devote a first rounder to rb.
  13. 1) I think, but this may be my own bias, that Beane could actually pivot from some draft tendencies that imo have not been smart. I believe he recognizes, he should, that devoting resources to Josh Allen and the offense ought to be a priority. However, if he gravitates back towards defense 2) I think he is going to correctly prioritize DL over LB, but if he doesn't 3) I think Trenton Simpson is a better fit, an athlete with a higher ceiling, and the more likely early LB pick.
  14. Yes, but do you want to bet the season on Brown playing well? They need a solid alternative in case Brown doesn't develop as the Bills are hoping. There isn't one currently on the team. It will have to come through the draft. RT is much more likely to sink the team than who is playing MLB.
  15. Pats want the second pick and someone to take Mac Jones -- entitled schmucks.
  16. God bless. Praying for you and your dad.
  17. I would prefer Matthew Bergeron in the second. I think they need a better backup plan for Brown. Maybe he develops as they hope and avoids injury issues. If he doesn't, the entire oline is going to be a mess trying to compensate. If the guard play improves that helps. RT is still a question mark. Doesn't need to be a first round pick, but I would use a day 2 pick to acquire a resource there.
  18. Trenton Simpson and Drew Sanders probably go before Jack Campbell. I wouldn't take a LB in the first period. If the trade for Hopkins happens, it probably involves a swap of 27 and 34. I would look at OT, G, C, even DT, before I thought about LB early second. I might take Trenton Simpson there.
  19. You for sure are the fella who goes around telling little kids Santa doesn't exist.
  20. We'll see if he goes in the first or early second. He's a high floor pick. I wouldn't take him at 27 and I don't think Beane will either.
  21. I think Trenton Simpson is a better talent and a better fit. If you want Campbell, there's a decent chance you can get him at 59.
  22. I think he has more value to us. I'm pretty certain Beane is going to take a DT day one or two regardless. If you trade Oliver, he very likely is going to take two. The only reason I would trade Oliver is if it were the only way to make the numbers work to get Hopkins under the cap.
  23. I agree. I don't think it would be necessary and we are already looking at DT as probably one of the early picks. But that is how the trade was specified in the mock. I stated in the thread it was an overpay and various reasons why Oliver should be kept.
  24. I don't know, but in the mock 3.0 we traded Ed Oliver along with pick 27 for Hopkins and 34. Trading Ed helped make the cap work.
