  1. high definition television, inconsistent reviews and debate of what constitutes clear and convincing or irrefutable evidence makes for a game that appears at times to be tilted toward one team or another. I'd be comfortable with this being an int all day long if I didn't have to compare it with the KB td catch, or the fumble in Miami. In both those plays--absent some special field view that the NFL has decided to keep hidden from the paying public, assumptions had to be made to overturn those calls. personally, I think the trend of fewer fans attending until they fix it. Seems to be a gigantic waste of time and money to go to a game, especially when your team is average or below-average, where there is not trust in those who run it. I'm still amazed we could be on the wrong side of 3 or 4 calls one way or the other.
  2. yes, the Michael Bennett thing comes to mind, but I think it's fair to assume that matter should be investigated. the problem is that things get thrown out there, and if true there's a whole lotta societal handwringing about a dopey guy who feels a certain way. and if it's not true, we'll have less societal handwringing but still, a dopey guy in the mix. on top of all that...one guy saying he did it doesn't mean he did it, and two or three other guys saying they didn't hear him say it doesn't mean he didn't. at the end of the day, I think 'dopey' is colorblind.
  3. I think the seriousness of the allegation is where this all starts. I can't think of a time where anyone ever said something that wasn't true, ever. Maybe back in the olden days.
  4. I did a quick search and read that there are 127 plays on average in an NFL game. I won't do the math, but there was a whole lot of action throughout the season that came before the Dalton td pass and to suggest that equates to "backing into the playoffs" seems like a shallow read of the season. Yeah, that play was incredibly exciting and we all celebrated it (or most of us celebrated it I would assume) but the road to the post season is what it has always been...win enough games the right way and you go. Don't, and you don't. And with regard to DM being the Mack daddy of coaching turnarounds....he rode the mighty jags crazy train to a squeaker of a win against the team you just described as the worst of the playoff bunch.
  5. How does a team back into the playoffs?
  6. One Buffalo, or you both go to your rooms.
  7. If you had said it, would it have been because you were upset? I think that's the question.
  8. No disagreement from me, but at least if it's a crappy rule (runner can cross the plane and drop the ball, receiver has a different set of rules), at least it's crappy for everyone. Ok, fair enough but... this post says it all, and to be honest, I always assumed that's why the proof must be irrefutable. it looks like his should is on the ground and probably is...but it's not about probably. it looks like his hand is still on the ball, but if the ball is slightly closer to the camera than his hand, it would look that way. it is what it is, but they don't do themselves any favors on these types of calls.
  9. thanks for the clip. I wasn't going to dig through the game film to see this one again. however, in the interest of continuing the debate, here's the thing. frame by frame, I find it impossible to identify the moment the ball left the dark gloved hand of landry v. when it appears his jersey touches the line. I'm not arguing with you, but can you definitively see that he still has contact with the ball? I'm wondering because the thing about camera angles is they have limitations. I can most definitely see upholding a no-fumble call if it went that way (much like the Benjamin TD call--had they ruled it incomplete I could understand insufficient evidence to overturn). but here...just seems to me they guessed, and assumed.
  10. I thought 9-7 and playoffs was better than 8-8 and no playoffs. Did they change something?? I already took Sunday off, them slushies gotta make themselves!
  11. "Magnamious choke job." I am not sure those words have ever been strung together in the history of the language but as a Bills fan, they make sense to me.
  12. you really can't tell what is sunburn and what might be windburn. the video that came out of the locker room of the players cheering like Pop Warner kids was awesome. No doubt some liked playing for Rec as well but just great to see.
  13. Three consecutive calls overturned against the same team. Two involving touchdowns. Crazy.
  14. I just know this. Rex is a big talker, it's a big part of who he is in public. When a guy like that fails to deliver, when the defense regresses, and when he goes out and hires his twin brother to elevate the play to top defense in the league...it's fair to expect him to deliver. He didn't, and the bills moved on. McDermott delivered, at least for now. After a such a long time walking in football darkness, why not just let the sun shine on your face for the next week or so?
  15. No can do amigo. I start chanting into the mirror next thing you know you're climbing out of my television like that creepy girl from The Ring.
  16. Damn I missed that one! The gift that keeps on giving.
  17. This series of posts is like a Smothers Brothers skit, and just as funny. I pop in to check the musings on this massive running thread from time to time, and it's for just this sort of thing. Oxygen, soap, Dove! It's Ivory, you knucklehead! Correct! Special kudos for this gem: "Use your mind for good, not bad!". Thank you both.
  18. but even then, the issue is still "is it conclusive?" and getting back to TPegs point if you have to look at it 30 times they are kind of missing the point about "conclusive". someone made a call on a close play, and it could have been called either way, and both sides coukd complain they got screwed. When it happens 2x in one game, it's fair to question whether or not it's bad luck or something nefarious.
  19. I tried to research this issue in the nfl rule book and couldn't find anything definitive that was pro-first down or pro-bills ball. Admittedly I get bored pretty quick, so I didn't dig too deeply into it, and the danger can be reading what someone else might say on a message board and tking that as gospel. My issue was the overturn of the spot. On this view, the only logical answer is "inconclusive". I never saw the other sideline shot that showed he was clearly on his feet or on his knees, but to be honest I don't see how any view could have been conclusive. There are too many bodies in the way to definitively say what legs belong to what players, the RB has two legs of his own so maybe one is down and on is up--and the spot on the field by the official on the scene was what it was. If this was the only complaint I had with replay or the pats (or using your example it went against LeSean), I could live with it, but it's just one symptom of a larger problem. The KB play shows pass int and some real creative video review to come to the conclusion that with 100% certainty KBs foot was off the ground. Absurd.
  20. "A toner, a musical boner"-the blonde from Pitch Perfect. I think you have a toner for George Carlin. I just wanted to point out there was sincerity afoot in the interaction I witnessed.
  21. I heard someone thank a service member at the local food store today. The same person also wished him a Merry Christmas. The service member appeared to be genuinely touched, looked like he had tears in his eyes after the phrase "Thank you for his service to the country." was extended to him. When the well-wisher wished him a Merry Christmas, he responded with a smile "Thank you, and you as well!". Near as I can tell, both people involved were sincere. I followed the service member out to his car, pretending to be lost and looking for my own car, and heard him say to another person in his vehicle "I just met a really nice person in there who wished me...". I couldn't hear the whole thing as the door closed and I accidentally set off the alarm to my SUV. I cannot guarantee he was happy, but I can say he seemed pleased.
  22. Agreed. I like to get angrier earlier than that.
  23. No, not at all. You have every right to share your opinion, I just shared mine. Why would exchanging thoughts on an anonymous message board make either of us cry?
