The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is painful to unbundle. President Trump stumbled into saving hundreds of thousands of lives because he and his admin recognized a hot spot and suddenly enacted racist travel restrictions, and the Dems and MSM were just benignly "wrong" when proclaiming that life as usual was the order of the day? Wrong like a waiter brings you margarine instead of butter? I can't believe you believe this. I have to believe English is not your native language. Wait, they call the whites "gringo" in Okinawa? That doesn't seem right. -

Then I am prepared. I look a lot like this guy, too if this guy looked less choppy-uppy and more like a homely CPA going to a meeting at the Marriott for a seminar on recent changes to Employer Sponsored Retirement Plans. -

I have to check the book, but I think it's more cultural misappropriation, or at worst, a dog whistle. For a chihuahua. You made me say that. -

First, it sounds horrible and it's good to hear he's recovering. It sounds awful, being beaten like a pinata, or what it must feel like after you were thrown down a flight of stairs. Second, and more importantly, several news outlets are reporting that in the fever, Mario told Chris to "Vote for Trump, dumbass!". ....developing. -

And, at that time, the corona virus was kept at bay. The message: Raisin Bran saves lives. It even sounds bad ass. Raisin. -

I agree there may be more to the story, but I’m not sure what the bad guys being armed has to do with it. Seems to me working backwards, the idea is the clerk had three legal options: 1. Ask the thieves to leave in a loud, but firm voice. No profanity allowed; 2. Remain huddled in the “secure” room in the store, which ironically, was within the larger secured smoke shop before the thieves breached the premises. One can assume the thieves would honor the sanctity of that second secured room, because cash and valuables are always kept in the first area breached; 3. Flee the premises, because the “juvenile suspects” effectively controlled it, and there could never, ever be any additional suspects at any other entrance/exit, and everyone knows it. Finally, everyone knows if you ask a guy/guys if they are armed as they break into your store, it’s common courtesy for them to reply honestly, and absent firearms, there is literally no harm that can befall you when three young men break into your store. For what it’s worth, I’m not a gun owner, I own a business and I would take my chances leaving through the back door/window if possible and sensible. I encourage my employees to do the same. I can always get more stuff. I would not, however, shelter in place at 430am with the hope that the three criminals would give me a fair shake if I had another option involving a firearm, knife, hand grenade or machete. The nature of criminals is that they tend to view crime in a favorable light. I’d assume it was them or me, probably because my only real option would be the machete. -

And...we’re back to you and Mr. BG being CIA operatives. One museum or the other is sight-seeing, both on the same trip? You’re working a commie scientist willing to leave his dreadfully handsome wife (she’s from farm people, hearty stock) and dull children back in St. Petersburg because you set him up with a comely grad student from Southern California who is schooled in the art of pleasure of the flesh. Let’s be honest, the light bulb turns on, then it’s off...end of tour. By the way, I live in Albany, and the adjacent city is Schenectady (aka The Place Beyond the Pines). On Erie Blvd in Schenectady, formerly the location of the Erie Canal, there’s a building with placard that indicates that’s where Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Or worked on it, I can’t recall. Ironically drove by it today. -

As I’ve said regarding health care in general, the government already runs health care. Nothing, or very little, happens outside of the regulations put in place at the state and federal level. Its’s one of the great cons of the modern era. It must have been very cool for you when you saw Mr. Ford roll out that first Model T. And it must have been a blast when they ended prohibition right before your Sweet 16 party! ? -

The point being made consistently here is not that Trump is never wrong---that's simply your interpretation. The argument you seem to make is that availability of testing is the only major problem, and that's silly. Interestingly, California received some props from Dr. Birx for aggressively shutting down San Francisco earlier in the fight, while suggesting NY and NJ were behind the curve on that sort of action. I agree that widespread availability to test would have been extremely helpful in this situation. Should Cuomo have shut down NYC and was it a mistake to encourage business as usual and leave people to figure out their own personal Covid-19 journey? -

Stop, you’re embarrassing yourself. New Rochelle was locked down in early March. When was the city a few miles away with 9,000,000 inhabitants living in exceptionally close proximity to one another, where people thrive on a mass transit system that accelerated the transmission of the virus shut down? I’ll wait while you look it up. By the way, Cuomo has overseen the designation of NYS as a sanctuary state in violation of federal law. When the tax laws changed, he actively sought out schemes to bypass the regulations as it related to SALT deductions, in a gambit that likely would have landed ordinary Americans in hot water with the tax man. He’s made a mess of the NYS REAL ID/enhanced license because of his decision to disregard federal guidelines for issuance of drivers licenses. He’s threatened to interfere with lawful enforcement of immigrations and customs agents, again defying the feds and sending a big FU to Washington. Suddenly though, on testing, he’s a $#@&ing Boy Scout? Or...is he just an exceptionally weak leader? Stop, you’re embarrassing yourself. (It needed to be said twice) -

And just like that, you’re out of opinions on crisis management. I’ve given credit to Cuomo, who is a corrupt politician overseeing a corrupt NYS political system, for his handling of this crisis to this point. What I’ve said is demonstrably true—had he acted decisively and worked with deblasio to lock NYC down, the death toll would be lower than it’s going to be. Everyone banging on Trump seems to know what actions should have been taken early on, in hindsight, and I’d say again, if that’s the standard, let’s look further back when this crisis was percolating in China and study what Cuomo and the dems were saying then-not now. I don’t play that game, it’s useless and frankly, we live in a free society and this sort of thing can wreak havoc on a free society. I hope for the best for my family, the best for your and everyone in between. However, if I was going to play that game, I’d be wonder why Cuomo had alligator arms on shutting down NY, and why he chose profit over people. -

You’ve been vocal that the feds $#@#ed this up, and are giving a pass to the leaders of the state. I’m simply applying your logic to the crisis here. I’m thinking if a governor and US senator can tell me the president is a bigot, a liar, and support allegations of treasonous behavior, they certainly could have gotten out in front of this virus. It seems fairly obvious, in retrospect, that Cuomo should have called for an Italian-style quarantine of NYC, or a New Rochelle-esque establishment of boundaries around the 5 boroughs. Yes? -

You cannot be this naive. The State of NY has the budget and infrastructure of a small country. It has some of the finest hospitals and doctors in the world, two experienced senators with insider access to international AND domestic intel as to what was coming based on your criteria and the world as you see it. Meanwhile, they’ve been spoon feeding you for 4 years that President Trump is an ignoramus and that they alone can save you. Your boy Cuomo badly mishandled the crisis for the people he’s responsible to protect, your boy Schumer has gone radio silent and Gilibrand has gone to ground to protect herself. I know this, again, using the criteria you’ve set for sitting in judgement of the crisis, because it’s also an international travel hub and they allowed the near unrestricted travel of carriers to/from and in/around nyc allowing the virus to get a major foothold in this country. if you’re going to run about like Chicken Little, dig into the whole experience and whine about all the players, most especially those responsible for NY. -

In this scenario, you would probably not want to vote for him in November. -
I find it fascinating that the talking head here would sacrifice her credibility by not at least pretending to do her job. It’s possible she can’t count to three, but it seems unlikely. It’s almost like there’s a follow up question but she is afraid to ask it. Statistically less likely, but yeah, even a blind man can....no, I’m not going to say it.

And then, she died, and ain't nothing no one coulda done about it.

I think Barbra Streisand was believable in Yentl (which i feel like i saw at the old Colvin Theater but feel the math does not work) she was a laugh riot in Meet The Fokkers, I confuse her sometimes with Bette Midler and I think both/either/neither were good in A Star of Born, pre-Gaga. Celine Dione is NOT one of the Canadians I was referencing, our/my Canadians didn't/don't have fake Frenchy accents, and are not overly-dramatic when they sing, though admittedly they didn't sing to the best of my knowledge. I did think Celine looked good when Leo TheCaprio sketched her nekkid in the Poseidon Adventure.

As are/were some of the most important and wonderful people in my life. Ignorance, like the Wang Chung virus and Niagara Bill's China Fan Club, recognizes no borders.
