America no longer exists
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to oldmanfan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
1950s America was absolutely a wonderful time, for some. It was also a time when information (also called the “truth”) was tightly controlled by a precious few conglomerates, working folks had little insight into the workings of the government and the elite, segregation was normal, the FBI and other intelligence agencies were up to all sorts of dirty tricks, individuals were routinely treated as second class citizens (or much worse) and the political landscape was populated with concepts like “McCarthyism”. Billy Joel sings “the good old days weren’t alway good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems”. He’s right. With progress comes growing pains. There are 50 things about that progress that irritate or sadden me, but there are many things we can be proud of as well. In the end, skepticism and the quest for more information is a good thing, even where the science is concerned. Trust, investigate, verify, proceed. -
And let’s not forget James Madison, Chester Allen Arthur, F Scott Fitzgerald and the cast of Golden Girls living and dead (RIP). We also can’t forget Math Damon, Bart Starr, Milli and Vanilli, and the good sisters of Mt St Mary High School 1974-1986. Oh, and ain’t no way your people are getting off scottso-freeze—-Justin Bieber, Allen Thicke, Pierre Trudeau and any Mountie who ever wore those funny puffy pants. Complicit, all.

That’s not surprising. A true zealot finds comfort in the knowledge that their path is the only righteous way. On the other hand, I read your thoughts with keen interest and take from them what I can. In this case, it’s painfully clear to me that gaudy academic accomplishments aside, some people just cannot get past their own emotional limitations and thus cannot be trusted. One must always gauge the agenda of the people telling you what’s in your best interest. In this regard, you’re a poor man’s Anthony Faucci. Just do me a favor—when you and the other “independent” 🤣 fringers track me down and load me on the train to the infection zone formerly known as South Dakota, remind me of your emotional anguish over our loss of clarity on what it means to be an American.

This is sad. Your response to an observation that you unabashedly, routinely, and predictably go out of your way to defend and rationalize your support of Joe Biden is another “...Biden but but but...” screed? I’ll give you this, you’re very consistent in this regard. There is not a person even causally aware of the situation in Afghanistan that does not recognize the inherent historical difficulties in shepherding the American intervention in that country. Based on recent events, it’s even more perilous when the shepherd’s best days are long behind him and 2 days out of five he forgets what the sheep look like. Yes, Old Man, everything that pre-dated Biden’s ascension to the height of power happened before he got to the Oval Office. That’s always the case when a new president takes the helm. Perhaps you can pen a strongly worded letter to the victims in Afghanistan letting them know that while Biden screwed the pooch, there have been lots of pooch screwers over the years. It’ll mean the world to them.

Biden probably didn't start out thinking he was political royalty, but a few decades of having everyone around you kiss your a$$ and tell you how great you are seems to lead to that sort of thinking. He's never liked being questioned by the folks in steerage, he's famous for challenging people to IQ tests and donut pushup contests.

You made it in 17 words before the “but”, and the old expression about “everything that comes after but” applies here. You’ve been quite vocal in your confidence in Biden’s cognitive ability in spite of some obvious signs of decline. You’ve rationalized away his penchant for nuzzling ears, sniffing hair and taking substantial liberties with his hands when women victimized by such activity have stated loudly that it was wrong. You’ve carried his baggage on the “Joe Knows COVID” while he twitters about with a strategy best described as “We know it’s killing people but jeeesh, what can I do, I’m just a President” while personally espousing some rather dark thoughts on how you think your fellow citizens might be treated in this country that stands for freedom. When does it stop for you, sir? While it’s entirely fair to say Afghanistan is an incredibly complex situation, the facts here are clear—a man with nearly 50 years of leadership experience at the highest levels of our government, with decades of exposure to the finest military strategists, the intelligence community, historians and the like &$@#ed whatever progress was made in 7 months. 7 months. Of course, there were people who recognized that before Biden became a doddering old fool, he was a knucklehead of the highest order for most of that time. Proud, strong Democrat voters of the past rejected him as a serious candidate multiple times, and I’d think our parents and grandparents, mostly gone now, would look at the coronation of this simpleton and wonder “What on earth were they thinking?”. I do agree with you and @reddogblitz that the vacation is irrelevant, just as it is for every president. Sadly, I agree at some point he’ll want to send troops back in to Afghanistan because during his 50 year tenure, he’s supported the lather, rinse, repeat cycle just like a good establishment politician is prone to do.

I don’t worry much where someone else feels I should be placed on the political spectrum. I would describe myself as center right, though that sort of labeling limits conversation and dialogue in my opinion. Anyway, that’s largely irrelevant to my point.

The Gov, in my humble opinion, represents the very best of contrarian for the sake of contrarian posting on the internet today.

As we can see, the answer to this abject failure of the Biden administration is that those who supported Biden now look to deflect blame over the last several presidencies. One of the common denominators, of course, is Joe Biden as a major political player through it all. The Taliban knew the only real concern with Biden in the White House was getting blamed for burning it down when he placed his keys in the microwave. But seriously—God Bless the true believers looking for the good old days of establishment politics. Tally so far: -Joe’s got a “great plan” for distributing the Trump vaccine, said plan being to $&@& it up. -Joe’s expertise in foreign policy and the relationships he’s forged over 5 decades reveals an incredible aptitude to be caught on tape totally misjudging a complex situation like that in Afghanistan. -Inflation rat$&$&ing the middle class. What a numbskull.

Biggest poser in American politics today. He may have believed what he espouses back when he was a filthy-footed full-boat commie, but those days are long gone. To quote the inimitable Jimmy Buffet “…warm summer breezes and French wines and cheeses, put his ambition at bay…”. He caught fire because he’s a caricature. Old guy, unruly white hair, funny NYC accent, appeals to kids who’s lefty parents were successful enough to send them to private school and righty parents who’s kids don’t realize they are one generation removed from poverty, thinking you can have the Bernie life if we all just came together against powerful and wealthy corporatists…which is really what Bernie is today. The corporation he in part oversees is simply called US Gov—with customers He stood down while HRC got the nod, makes you wonder who he kneels before in private. You did, however, catch the political eye of the politically seductive @ComradeKayAdams, soon to beguiling you with Green New Deals where you eat only free range goat cheese brioche and wear Earth Shoes made from recycled tires from 2015 and newer Beemers, likely the car Bernie or his spouse drives when the lens is not shined on him. I swear to God if you grow a straggly beard, start showering only when “Momma Earth cries over climate change” and wear a shirt declaring “VEGAN? VE CAN!” I’m coming for you.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

When I first dated my wife, I told her I made $786,000 a year as a stockbroker on Wall Street. I told her after she had committed that I actually made $9,400 as a part-time register clerk at Mighty Taco, and that Wall Street wasn’t in Cheektowaga. To her credit, she was very understanding and realized I was just embellishing a bit because she was a 9 and I was a 4. -

Why are you asking my opinion if you’re predetermined to be prickly about the reply? It’s a bit hurtful, makes me sad and makes you an untrustworthy dialogue companion. We may be at a crossroads here. -

Under duress, it seems clear he would have flipped if he has something, he did not. How much? Because it’s the wise thing to do. Cuomo has been in office for decades. He was protected and enabled for decades. You’re silly. -

I haven’t ready Billy’s reply yet, it’s always fun to read his conspiracy theories on how Trump narrowly escaped prosecution because the Hoover Dam failed, or the regular teacher was sick that day and they had a sub, or Munchausen By Proxy. Looking forward to it!!! -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

In a post discussing COVID 19, I discussed a former president and his social influencer pro vax pro post vax mask friends getting together in a large group when the current president and his group is suggesting that’s dangerous behavior. Your response was in part “whataboutism and Trump and stuff?”. Since I don’t subscribe to the internet lowest common denominator of “whataboutism” being something to fear, I asked you directly to be more specific about Trump. I didn’t backbend, somersault, dodge, evade or triple lutz…I just asked for clarity, so I could share my opinion in response to your whatabout Trump question. Your reply was “Trump and vaccines”, which I found to be a bit broad, but opted to push ahead since you extended the courtesy of a reply. I summarized my point of view, never claimed the mantle of objectivity, I just told you what I thought. I didn’t ask you to concur, call you Sponge Bob Stupid Pants if you disagreed, I just answered a very broad question understanding the purposeful nature of asking a question that would be interpreted differently by every person who tried to answer. Now, I see the real question has nothing to do with development of vaccine, getting it to market, or anything like that. You just wanted to know my thoughts on whether or not Trump should have been vaccinated on live television, and whether or not he should be out selling the vaxx protocol. Here’s my direct reply to those questions: 1. I don’t think it matters if he actively promotes the vaccine or not. Damage was done to the psyche of the American people when Harris and the like were trashing the program preemptively in late 2020. Trump supporters know he was vaccinated, know the landscape and decide to vaxx or not as they see fit. Those that hate and despise Trump likely would conclude there was something nefarious afoot since they were previously warned not to trust the vaxx developed during the Trump admin. 2. It’s irrelevant whether or not Trump was vaccinated privately or in a breaking news segment when Old Man Sundancer was watching “Father Knows Best” on the console. It’s not 1964 Gramps. -

I offered to provide thoughts on any Trump-related subject that was of interest to you. I did that several days ago and didn’t hear back until now. My comments on the somewhat obvious hypocrisy on the Obama birthday bash were specific to the birthday bash. Your query today is overly broad in that “Trump and Vaccines” spans nearly a year and took several twists and turns, but here are my thoughts generally: -Early on, Trump’s leadership skills were poor, and I would give him a grade of F. He was all over the page on describing what we were facing as a nation, he allowed himself to be victimized by his political opponents and at the end of the day, he was THE guy responsible for shaping the National response. His voice as not loud enough, not clear enough and as a result it was chaotic. As the crisis played out, he did better, organized an exceptional government response to working with key players in the industry responsible for developing and implementing a response. I would give him an A for his performance there, especially in light of the hyper-politicization of virus management by dem political operatives working to sow seeds of chaos, mistrust in the science/vaccine development. I think on the political side, he missed opportunities to point out the disconnect between what D operatives were saying (COVID is a threat to our survival!) and their actions in support of mass gatherings that were clearly superspreader events, at least in context at the time, which certainly lead to a substantial increase in transmission and death. I think Trump’s teeing up the vaxxs gave Biden a substantial leg up in the fight against COVID, allowed for what should have been a slam dunk across the board, and Biden fumbled it quite badly. Trump gets an A+ here, Biden an F for allowing his sycophants to encourage distrust of the vaxx is Trump was Prez v Biden in office. He has been very weak in that regard. -

I work with a personal intimacy coach. She’s $1,500 an hour and tells me she’s up to date on health insurance, legalities and vaccinations/shots. Nice lady—Dr. Candi. I think she’s from Brazil. -

Speaking only for myself, I’m going to have to devote some serious time to improving my core if I’m going to commit to Reverse-Crab-Walk-Girl-on-Top while fully masked. They call it the widowmaker in some cultures for a reason. -

Thanks for putting words in my mouth. Thanks for clarifying your thoughts on Florida. It’s good to find common ground once in a while.
