If the true nature of problem is climate change, then the country collectively should contribute to solve the problem. The ravages of industry and pollution from the northeast as no secret, the carbon footprint of the west coast shipping hubs and associated industries must surely be a major contributing cause. American consumerism would be a significant contributor as well. I would assume Gov DeSantis would gratefully accept the other 49 states contributing, and voluntary/compulsory contributions from all Americans would help as well. Btw—in the article, it’s noted that one issue that drives rate is onerous legislation with respect to attorney fees. In addiction, the lack of an option for binding arbitration is also noted as a major reason for skyrocketing costs. Neither of these are related to climate change, though attornies blathering on in court no doubt adds a tremendous amount of hot air to the equation. Why not start with these two issues?

There are quite a few challenges with the insurance market. On the private side, it’s a mixture of expansion/cost of homes/overexposure on coastal markets/rising cost of construction, the fact that people probably don’t want to pay to cover the actual risk AND a hostile insurance department that has ultimately limited consumer choice with onerous regulation. On the flood side of things, the flood program is federal, not a state program. There are some benefits—required in a flood zone where a mortgage is involved. It has some limitations, it’s expensive in areas where it’s needed. It has some rules to follow—example a 30 day waiting period if no mortgage company is involved. A friend of a friend built a house on/near the water, paid cash and the house was destroyed. Unf the loss occurred inside the 30 day window and $0 was paid. This problem started long before Ron DeSantis was governor.

Not discrimination to refuse cake sale.

I’d bake the cake, been grateful for the opportunity to serve, and upsold the blueberry scones if possible. But I’m not them. Perhaps before supporting oppressive, punitive action against the business owner, you should consider attempting to understand them—what they think, why they think it, and why their perspective is important to them. Maybe you’ll gain a better understanding of them, and maybe through dialogue and shared respect, they’ll come to see your perspective. Or maybe you’ll come to see theirs. Or, maybe neither. After all, as you said “it’s a ***** cake.”. -
Man, the ink isn’t even dry and people are moving past the language to point their finger at they and them. From the bill… 2) Diverse beliefs about the role of gender in marriage are held by reasonable and sincere people based on decent and honorable religious or philosophical premises. Therefore, Congress affirms that such people and their diverse beliefs are due proper respect.

I’m going with what I think I know, which is enough for me. I’m a….simple man.

The benefit of reading BillSy’s posts, and considering how he got to where he is, is that I find myself grateful I am not so encumbered.

I got stuck in a moment and gave him the benefit of the doubt?

Jimmy Kimmel fancies himself a sage of sorts, but he increasingly seems like a completely humorless stooge.

Updated Beasley signing to practice squad
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills were in a very tough position at the time. The entire world was focused on vaccine status, spread of the virus, and their ultimate job was to manage the personnel in a way that increased the likelihood of success on the field every Sunday. The NFL was likely squeezing them as well. It’s a lot easier on management if everybody complies. When you factor in the public relations implications if Beasley became sick and other players were impacted…coupled with the likelihood that some players were probably pro-vaxx, some were probably against the vaxx but wanted to play football, and some were probably scared to death of COVID…it was not an easy time. They get paid a lot of money to handle all this, but it must have been a gigantic pain in the a$$ and the stakes were high. -

There was an ugliness directed at the guy by some people, and that’s indisputable. I’m not so sure about hate, but contempt certainly seems fair. He’s the same guy who just a year or two earlier was a fan favorite for moving the chains, “I love you Josh Allen”, and playing on a broken leg. He’s also a guy who surely knows fans will support a player who has legal issues, domestic violence allegations, etc if it helps the team win. It should come as no surprise that a highly emotional guy would be upset by people more worried about a football game being played than what he perceived was his best course of action in the middle of a public health crisis. I understand the argument about keeping your private business private, and certainly understand the issues the Bills had in managing him, but it’s no secret that people turned on him. It is interesting, too, that in spite of distractions real or imagined, and the impact of culture and the like, that the Bills would welcome his return back. -
Why did Saleh continue to play White
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to FLBillsGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dance around like I always do. Head tap, feint, head tap, feint, drop in to shoot the legs and get caught in a cement mixer. I was up 5-0, get caught in a 5 point move, time runs out. My daughter looked so cute in her pjs, I lost focus. Frigging tele-tubbies. On the other hand a tie is almost like everybody winning. -

If you can’t beat a kid who sleeps in a crib, you got real problems. I’m not a pro athlete, but I was 56-0-1 against my kids at that age. -
Not discrimination to refuse cake sale.

Welp, what I meant was successful from the perspective of the government. I'd say the progressive income tax scale has been pretty successful for the US Government, in some cases convincing average Americans that up to 37% of one's income should be sent to the government for the greater good. Or, where 37% is insufficient, and folks clamor for someone else to pay 40, 50+ %. Or where people save money on tax today, fund an IRA, and pay tax on the money saved and the gain in the future. Or when an individual saves some after-tax money, buys some stock and gets doinked with a Capital Gain tax. There's others....the Church of Climate Science...involvement in some foreign wars...and so on. -

Exactly!! At the risk of drawing the ire of some of our more socially conscious companions here…most successful government programs are based on the theory of the collective good, doing your part to help someone less fortunate, tithing on-an-it’s-never-quite-enough basis, making one believe they are inherently flawed or contributing to eternal damnation of the planetary/societal type. -

It’s the same, but different. Why? Because it is. Religious faith is powerful. So is the US Government. -
I thought 10-3 would feel better...
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
They were no-look interceptions though. How cool is that? 10-3 is where we are, the Bills control their destiny, the rest is just football and hoping for good performance and some good luck. -
It’s a damn shame when a majestically inked up 7’ tall lady in a ginormous track suit can’t blend in with the crowd.

People are dumb, and if you’ve been a high performing athlete your entire life, it’s likely that arrogance plays a part. It’s not even as if one has to think “The rules don’t apply to me”, it’s more of a “Oh, crap, there are rules??”’

I think Jim’s incessant questioning yields positive results at times, forcing people to be introspective when they otherwise might not. Or, they tap out which I find funny. I disagree with his assessment on Twitter and people following it. I am unshunning you at this time, but reserve the right to re-shun in the future. Jim has yet to be shunned, , and it’s not just because I’m hoping to get some suggestions on IPO stock to make me obscenely wealthy. He may be shunned in the future.

I think it may have been misinterpreted for an ethnic slur from the early 1900s. The spell check kept changing what I wrote, and I think I it was a double-yuh, an oh, and a p. I was thinking 50s music from NYC. My wife and children are going to be coming for me if this gets out—though ironically we were coffee this morning and after she told me a story about some friends who’s ancestors came from that part of the world and a family kerfuffle that ensued…and I said “Your people are an emotional lot at times.” She laughed and said “Oh yeah.”.
