  1. I went looking for the original interview, and saw that the Florida Baptist Witness interviewed all three Senate Republican candidates. One question stood out and seemed to explain how much Katherine has really embraced the challenges, quandaries, philosophy, dillemmas, questions, and doubts that reward the arrival of a deeply held faith. Florida Baptist Witness: Some day all of us have to give an account before God for what we have done. Are you certain in your own heart that when you come to that point of accounting that you’ll spend eternity with God in Heaven? Will McBride: I am a hundred percent sure based on what the Bible says, “whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” My dad is a minister, as I’ve said, and as a young boy in Sunday School I would always go forward and pray the sinner’s prayer, however when I was 10 years old I wanted to make sure because I struggled with doubts of my salvation, and I acknowledged that I was a sinner, I believe that Christ died on the cross for my sins and in the best way that a 10-year-old boy could, I invited Him to be my Lord and Savior. I’m not perfect, but I believe that was the time I placed my faith in Christ. And based on Scripture, I am confident that I will stand before Christ and He will say, “welcome in.” I just want to hear, “well done, thou good and faithful servant.” --- [same question] LeRoy Collins: I certainly hope so and I’ve been conducting myself with that in mind. But my ledger is clean. I think I have spent most of my life doing things for other people and so I think that that’s very important and that should be an objective in our lives and I’ve always thought in terms of how does this impact other people and what can I do for them rather than myself and that’s very gratifying. --- [same question] Katherine Harris: No question.
  2. Revisionism, indeed. In 1999, Doug Flutie was awful. He played a potential 14-win team with the league's best defense, and a 4-1 start , down to an 11-5 record that didn't even get a home playoff game. If he got 200 yards passing on Sunday, we were lucky. If he did it by completing more than half his passes, Wade Phillips was happy. If he did it without 2 or 3 picks or a fumble, it could be a cakewalk for Buffalo. When the Bills won in 1999, it was because we took the ball out of his hands and hoped the clock ran out in time against the Bledsoes and Mannings. Flutie ended up completely mismanaging winnable games against the Giants (15-32, 1 INT), Raiders (19-42, 3 INTs), Jets (22-40, 2 INTs), and Seahawks (24-50, 2 INTs). He was damn lucky to win against the Ravens (18-40, 3 INTs) and New England in his last start (finished 22-35 after going 10-22 in bum performance - the game doesn't even go OT if Vinateri doesn't miss two FGs). I was completely exhausted with Flutie by then - weren't you??? And remember how Johnson played the next week? Rob couldn't miss in a fantastic blowout performance against the 13-win Colts (who WERE playing for homefield advantage). 24 of 32, 287 yards, and pinpoint TDs to Peerless Price that I hadn't seen Jim Kelly throw since 1990. If ever. Yeah, Johnson turned into a pumpkin in 2000 (as did our defense). I didn't think the Bills would get any lower after the 33-6 and 44-20 blowouts to the Dolphins and Colts (and Wade was already conceding the playoffs). But Flutie was NEVER the Magic Man.
  3. What he did was idiotic, but I'd hate to have my entire future in jeopardy because of doing something stupid when I was 20 or 21. If somebody gives him a chance, I hope the kid makes it back to 1-A and maybe salvage his pro potential. If a second chance is good enough for a cheatin' snake like Kelvin Sampson, then surely Bomar can get a break here.
  4. What's with the mom? She thinks the FHM printed magazine is OK, but says the Web site is a "little trashy?" Mom obviously doesn't have a teenage son in the house...or in the bathroom.
  5. Why is a near-term playoff run needed to save the Bills for Buffalo? The Bills could move to LA, Oklahoma City, or Kabul without selling any more tickets, and be just as (and no more) profitable under NFL revenue sharing.
  6. Check out the reporter's own Web site. He jisms over the Tar Heels, too.
  7. Just like Lonnie Johnson in the season-ender at GB that year, we just didn't see it coming.
  8. You really want Brady Quinn, don't you.
  9. This from the Carolina broadcast on that first drive: "They're picking on Terrance McGee there." I'd be a little worried if Terrance isn't ready for a non-Bear Bryant gameplan.
  10. Let's play Rashoman... Says here Cards game was sold out, crowd went bonkers.
  11. This Texas A&M guy was breaking the news on Oklahoma QB Rhett Bomar and his fake job in January, and all he got then was a spanking by other Aggies. Bagging Bomar
  12. From Today's Allen Wilson story: "Another complication could be Whitner's agent, Jonathan Hurst. He works for the agency headed by Neil Cornrich, who has been suspended for one year by the NFL Players Association for testifying on behalf of General Motors against the estate of the late Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas." WTF? Hurst is screwing his client...or punishing Buffalo...or messing with Ralph Wilson because of his Detroit connections? Nothing else in the story explains this. How the hell does this six degrees of separation crap factor into the Whitner talks?
  13. Didn't the 1988 season end with a last-minute loss to Indianapolis? I didn't see it, but it was our third loss in four games to end the year, and that was the game that gave the Bengals homefield advantage in the AFC title game. (the mystery facemask call on Bruce; Derrick Burroughs committing the dumbest and most ill-times unsportsmanlike conduct on a 3rd-down in the history of the league -- ah, that's for a playoff depression thread).
  14. The bike he was riding (Suzuki Hayabusa) is labeled the "world's fastest bike" by many enthusiasts. 200 mph top speed; you get get up to 150 mph in under 10 seconds. Loosing a few teeth and breaking a jaw in a low-speed downtown crash may turn out to be the luckiest break of Roethlisberger's life if it permanently gets him off this two-wheeled ICBM.
  15. Maybe Ted Jr. decided to veer off Dad's path a long time ago...after seeing this picture. Give it to me
  16. What was the outcome of Fox's "Iraq Civil War: Can it be a Good Thing?" debate last week?
  17. ESPN guesses tonight that it will be the Raiders going after Culpepper. A story on FoxSports.com last week speculated that Vince Young was falling on draft boards, all the way to the Raiders at No.7... http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5363342 so.................... need I ask?
  18. Your dillemma solved: The press is anything that's written. Speech is anything that's said. "Congress shall make no law"...case closed.
  19. Can't say I know enough about him to say. I watched him once in the Holiday Bowl, and he never seemed to have much of an impact. Rarely heard his name mentioned after the first quarter, and the Adrian Peterson ran roughshod through the Oregon line through most of the second half.
  20. Bad calls or not...the Seahawks didn't DESERVE this game. Jeremy Stevens played timidly and soft (just as Jerry Porter predicted). The Seahawks gave up the longest TD run in SB history. Their D surrendered two first downs with six minutes left. They botched four scoring opportunities that could have provided them 12 points. The refs weren't doing them any favors, but they didn't shut the door on them.
  21. Jones and Kraft have said in the past they want a change in the structure because new owners have to pay team purchase and expansion fee debt on their own (in addition to payroll expenses), but then only get to share equal revenues with the free-and-clear Maras, Rooneys and Wilsons. While it's not killing them, and there's plenty of cash to go around, I can see their point -- why shouldn't Ralph Wilson provide some debt load relief to Dan Snyder if Wilson waves the "We're all in this together" flag when it comes time to split the Fox TV check?
  22. It's now illegal to annoy someone over the Internet using a pseudonym.
