Are we being purposely divided?
SectionC3 replied to Matt_In_NH's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It’s hard to argue with a guy who confuses accept with except. But that’s MAGA for you. MAGA’s bottom line here apparently is that Hillary, after acknowledging that Trump won the 2016 election, twice expressed sour grapes so now it’s acceptable to storm the Capitol and attempt a coup. Makes perfect sense. Hoax. I haven’t read this. So this is a provisional hoax. You wasted a lot of your life on that list. I won’t waste any more precious time reading it. If he added obese and poorly educated into the other adjectives he’d have summed up MAGA perfectly. -

Hoax. I want MAGA to get to work. I’m tired of supporting them. -

Once MAGA can admit that Biden won in a legitimate, clean election we can get started. -

The good news, to the extent there is any, is that some lardy unemployed MAGAts now can take those cash jobs cleaning houses and picking crops that the illegals who didn't make it to the United States otherwise would have filled. Time for MAGA to hop to, put down the cigs, guns, and jack, tell the creditors to stop calling, park the pickup truck they neither need nor can afford, and pick some strawberries in the blazing sun for sub-minimum wage so they can stop complaining about all of those poachy Mexicans looking to work for a better life. -
We think the former to be true. We do not know the latter to not be true. And, irrespective of the country described in those documents, the fact remains that we similarly think those papers to contain extremely sensitive information. So what appears to be your excuse for his misconduct is, you guessed it, just another hoax. I don't believe in whataboutism, but this is completely, absolutely, 100% correct.

Hoax. Except for the part about Hillary screwing up with the deplorable comment. -
In other news, Putin has had to resort to conscription and purchase of armaments from North Korea. The Doc plan here might have been to have allowed Russia to roll the Ukraine to keep the gas flowing into Europe. Maybe the Europeans would have cast the Ukraine aside and taken the gas. Maybe they wouldn’t have done so. But we’ll never know because, like the guy on the subway in Seinfeld, Biden knows that the Ukraine is strong.

Hoax. I don’t get sick watching it. Probably because I’m vaccinated. You should try it sometime. Or maybe your lungs can turn to glue if you get COVID. Not my concern, so long as you don’t gum up our hospital system or use public monies in your treatment. -

Hoax. There is no privacy clause. It’s the penumbra to which you refer. -

Beats me. What you’re trying to say is that if no government issues such weapons to servicemembers, then the gun can’t be a weapon of war. So what is war? A declared conflict? A terrorist action? Harm inflicted by a lone wolf? A militia action? The point is that war can be conducted by an entity other than uniformed military, so I don’t ascribe to the point you’re attempting to make. Hoax. That ruling said that the constitution does not contain a right to privacy. After the same court had a contrary opinion for decades. -

I think the straw/streets thing is a byproduct of those high-volume purchases. That’s the issue with the gun shows. Someone can quickly buy hundreds of guns at once in Ohio, drive them to New York State, and deal them on the street. It happens way too often. -

The states are stuck with the reporting requirements. That I get. And i can sympathize both with your difficulty in enjoying a constitutional right and with your point that criminals won’t comply with background checks. On the flip side, however, one can go to a gun show in a place like Ohio, buy literally hundreds of guns on the spot, and then cart them back to New York for resale. Will a background check stop that? Probably depends on the definition of background check. If the check includes a waiting period, then maybe it works. I don’t know. There’s not a good solution for a lot of this stuff, but it says something to me when guns used in crimes in New York State can regularly and frequently be traced to out of state sales. -

Agreed. I’ll add one thing I failed to mention earlier. I acknowledge your point that there are background checks. I’m not familiar with the acronym for the check, or with the federal filings that are required of gun dealers. But I am familiar with the Iron Pipeline, and what I understand to be the difference in background checks on a state to state basis. That’s something that I think we need to clean up. Have symmetry in the law. We have a Second Amendment that we have to respect and have to honor. I just don’t see red flag and more stringent background (and, frankly, raise the age for semi-automatic gun ownership) as impermissible limitation of the rights guaranteed therein. Hoax on Roe v Wade. A prior court identified the right to abortion as constitutionally-protected within certain guidelines. The new iteration of the court changed the rules. Call it what you wish, but Dobbs represents the first ever retraction of a constitutional right. -

I don’t disagree with number 4. I suppose the “devil” is in what constitutes a mass shooting. And, don’t get me wrong. I don’t disagree with a lot of what you say. I’m coming around on red flag laws, from initially thinking it was a bad plan to now holding my nose because we don’t have a better solution at the moment. I happen to disagree with you about what constitutes a weapon of war; just because you were issued a different rifle by a branch of the United States military doesn’t mean that the AR-15 cannot constitute a weapon of war. I have to say, though, that I also don’t believe that such weapons should be banned or could be banned based in part on my reading of the Constitution and in part based on my view of the paramount importance of keeping any weapon, AR or otherwise, out of the hands of people who are mentally disturbed—hence my change of heart on red flag laws. In any event, the issue, in my view, isn’t what you and I think. It’s what suburban, college-educated women thing. They don’t think you need an AR-15. They worry about their kids going to school safely. And they hate the fact that one party doesn’t want to do what they perceive as anything meaningful about it. That’s capitalism for you. Don’t like it? Find another job. -

Same here with stop the steal and Trump 2016. Whether Trump won or Hillary lost is debatable. I don’t know. It doesn’t matter. Trump earned more votes than Hillary, and he earned the presidency as a result of that election. Not debatable. Same thing with the Insurrection/stop the steal. It’s bogus. Had plenty of chances to prove it. Failed every time. Now, these MAGA losers want to burn down our electoral process because they got a result they didn’t like. Too effing bad. Go ask the liberals. Maybe we should have things like background checks, and red flags laws, and minimum age requirements for non-military to have weapons of war. Seems like there’s a nasty habit of those things being used in schools. -

No kidding. Alaska maybe—MAYBE—can be explained away. But, from a political science perspective, it’s a result that would scare me if I was MAGA. Same thing with Kansas. It’s hard to ignore. Maybe that’s why the MAGA Senate candidate scrubbed his anti-women, anti-reproductive freedom views from his web page. -

Sounds like we have a Hispaniola situation here. Also, MAGA is the dog that caught the car on abortion. Check those numbers a year from now. Women are registering in record numbers, and it isn’t to support the party that is anti-women’s rights, pro-terror (see: defund the FBI, attacking the Capitol), and anti-school gun safety.
