To qualify my vote for Nassib, that's in round 2 and not round 1.

Chargers release Jared Gaither
Luxy312 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure what team you're watching. Cordy Glenn did a heck of a job as a rookie last year and is cemented in at the LT spot. Erik Pears played fine on the right side. This kid you're talking about was cut from 2 teams prior to now being cut by his 3rd team. This is a classic case of remembering the college player that was supposed to be good, but turned out to be garbage. I wouldn't take a shot at Gaither at all. -
Nix has been pretty bad in most aspects, but I won't ding him on his early draft picks. Gilmore may be the best cornerback of last years draft. He plays the best wide out on the field every down and that's at HIS request. Cordy Glenn is a legitimate starting left tackle. Is it any wonder that Fitz took so few sacks? Dareus and Spiller are studs. Not a doubt in my mind. They may have missed on 2nd rounders Williams and Troup, but how many teams can say they find starters in every year in that spot? None. But for his drafts, free agency has been a failure. Coaching choice has been a failure. He deserves the criticism he's received and I'm glad to see him go.

The real question there is with who? You have to find a team with a very specific need that will be addressed by the 8th pick in order to provide the incentive to get them to move. As hard as I look at where the Bills are and who's going to likely still be on the board at that time, I can't find a suitor that makes sense. It's a nice idea and works on Madden every time, but not in real life.

My theory on the draft and 2013 season
Luxy312 replied to Harryhood280's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I posted this in the Matt Flynn thread, but we've been doing the "wait until next year" stop gap BS for the last 12 years. They could have drafted Aaron Rodgers had they not traded away the pick the year prior to move up to get J.P. Losman. They could have drafted Jay Cutler instead of Donte Whitner. Joe Flacco instead of Leodis McKelvin. Josh Freeman instead of Aaron Maybin. They could have had any of those guys as the signal caller now, but instead filled in with Fitzpatrick, Kelly Holcomb, Drew Bledsoe, Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie. Assuming a top-5 or top-10 draft pick next year before this season starts is in and of itself a failure. 4 of their 10 losses this last year were by less than a touchdown. Swing their record around to 8-8 or even 9-7 and they're drafting 14-16th this year. In my mind, unless both Geno Smith and Matt Barkley are off the board in the first round, that's who you draft. If they are, you wait until round 2 and see what happens. One of the 2nd tier QB's will be there and at that point maybe you draft them to hold a clipboard for Tarvaris Jackson for awhile. -
I want to start my comments by stating that I'm not challenging anyone's enthusiasm as a fan. However, if you look at this in the context of just recent history, it does not bode well for the Bills to go after Flynn. Let's break it down a little bit. Ryan Fitzpatrick was a backup on another team. 4 years and a lot of interceptions later, he really didn't get it done for us. Before that, they got another journeyman in Kelly Holcomb. Washed out in a year. Before that we had Bledsoe. He had 1 good year out of three. Before that, it was Doug Flutie. I liked Flutie and he at least made the playoffs a couple of seasons. Still, he was a retread. Matt Flynn has Rob Johnson written all over him. Did he have 2 good games for Green Bay? Sure, but in those games he took 12 sacks. Let's not forget that Robo-sack Johnson took 6 in his one good game for Jacksonville before the Bills rolled out the red carpet. I'm not saying definitively that Matt Flynn will not be successful in the NFL. I just have to look back the last 10 years to ask myself a couple of questions. Would we as fans be happier had the Bills drafted Josh Freeman instead of Aaron Maybin. Joe Flacco instead of Leodis McKelvin. Jay Cutler instead of Donte Whitner. Last and probably the biggest of them all, we gave up our draft pick the following year to move up to take J.P. Losman. We would have been in a position to draft Aaron Rodgers. This team has been rolling the dice trying to fix the team with stop gap quarterbacks and hand me downs and giving up draft picks. For once I would like to see them address the most important position on the field with the best player they can get in the draft.

Interview with Buddy Nix from Owners Meetings
Luxy312 replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His comments are interesting. Regardless, if you looked at the number of successful NFL quarterbacks drafted after the first round, you won't find many. In the last 20 years, there have been 30 drafted in the 2nd round. Of those, Dalton and Kaepernik are examples of success, with the "TBD" that we haven't seen a ton of their respective careers yet. Lots of mediocre QB's like our current Tarvaris Jackson. Drew Brees is the only other guy still playing that is successful. After that, you 'd have to reach pretty far back for Brett Favre, Randall Cunningham, or even Boomer Esiason. Regardless of all that, I think there's a lot of guys that are kind of "the same" in this draft after Geno Smith. Barkley, Nassib, Henderson, Wilson. They really don't stand out from each other and would seem to be 2nd round value. -
Should the Bills trade UP to #1???
Luxy312 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been the same and would agree with you 100%. This draft doesn't set up at all like the draft last year where clearly Luck and Griffin go 1/2 in either order and are clear first round picks. I don't know how to explain it, but this year feels much more like a 2011 Jake Locker/Blaine Gabbert type of draft. The rhetoric in Kansas City is nice and all, but they did just trade for Alex Smith. He's already getting paid and my money would have him as the starter. Why on earth would this team trade up? It makes no sense what so ever given how close a lot of the QB's coming out this are are to each other. Even if Geno Smith is picked before the Bills pick at #8, I wouldn't really be upset with picking Matt Barkley. Would that be a little bit of a reach? Sure, which is why I would be just as happy drafting a WR or LB in the first round and waiting until the second to take a signal caller. One of Ryan Nassib, Tyler Wilson, and EJ Manuel will certainly be there in the 2nd round. Are they really That much of a drop off (if any) from Barkley and Smith? I really don't think so. None the less, the front office has stated point blank that they're looking for a good young signal caller to lead the team. They are taking a QB with the 1st or 2nd round pick whether we like it or not. Trading up though would be just plain stupid given all their needs. -
Somewhat this, but not all of it. He's not doing 1,400 leg presses. No way. However, partial motion doesn't make it all that impressive. The hardest part of that machine is at the bottom when you stop the weight coming at you and actually press off again. None the less, we have Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus in the middle playing either DT or NT in the 3-4. Who really gives a donkey's dingle about Troupe?
-
I wouldn't sign anyone. Don't we see this discussion every year at other positions? Fitzpatrick was a journeyman. Kolb, Flynn, Cassel (now that it doesn't matter), and Campbell are no better than Tarvaris Jackson. This team is so lost in terms of its identity. Not sure what I want at this point. One part of me wants to say that Geno Smith has all of the tools that the Bills need offensively. He's accurate and can make all the pro throws and basically ran an almost pro level spread offense at West Virginia. Maybe they finally get it right after the J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards failed experiments. The other part of me says that they need to take the best player at a position of need in the first round and then come around and take the highest QB on the board in round 2. Maybe it ends up being the Syracuse QB, and maybe it doesn't. Regardless of my indecisive opinion, they are going to need to be right on 3-4 draft picks to compete this year.

crazy trade thought - trade Stevie
Luxy312 replied to dbflaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me, that's not the problem. The problem is that teams just don't trade their best players away, period. Sure, guys getting up there in their years, or guys coming off of bad injuries get traded. Trading Stevie Johnson is about as likely as Baltimore trading Torre Smith or the Falcons trading Julio Jones. It's just patently stupid by this original poster. -
crazy trade thought - trade Stevie
Luxy312 replied to dbflaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is about the worst idea anyone has come up with. Why would they trade their second best offensive player? Makes no sense and if this were posted to the front office, they would laugh you right out of the building. -
What is your "perfect" draft scenario?
Luxy312 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My perfect draft scenario is picking defense first. The Bills biggest weakness is on defense and their linebackers. If it's truly just a wish list, I want Jarvis Jones in the first round. However, after choking down the reality pill that he will be long gone by then, I want Manti Teo. If pray tell they're both gone, give me Dion Jordan or Alec Ogletree. I think those guys are hands down first round talent. In the 2nd round, I would hope they entertain the idea of Ryan Nassim. Again, if I have my wish list and don't check the reality at the door, I would love for them to instead have Tyler Wilson or Mike Glennon. From there, they need to pick the vest available athletes on the board for depth. No team is looking for starters in the 3rd round or beyond. -
Piss poor play calling will sack any QB. Wrong and very bad post....

Buffalo Bills fire Head Coach Chan Gailey
Luxy312 replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One win against a winning team during his entire tenure should tell the story. He doesn't know how to win and isn't dynamic enough as a coach to change his game plan. Good riddance (again) to another failure of a coach after Marv. What? He's an awful OC. He's had games where the YPC is better than the YPP and yet he continues to pass the ball. Just plain stupid. Let him coach college where that will actually work with the right talent. LOL. -
It baffles the hell out of me that Gailey can't use Spiller for more than 10-12 carries a game. It's utterly ridiculous how good he's been even under those circumstances. Personally, he doesn't need to be a pass blocker on passing downs. He should be a receiving option or running option on every single play until teams show they can stop him. Thus far, it hasn't been the case. In terms of Dareus, it's difficult to measure him. He was more of a force in his rookie year with Kyle Williams out and no Mario. The latter part of this year when Mario has been 100%, Dareus has looked good. Still, the defense is so bad and so many other areas, it's really hard to evaluate. Gilmore and Glenn clearly have to be TBD's. You have to give some credit to the offensive line for the fact that Spiller is around 6.5 YPC. Glenn is part of that mix. Also, Fitz hasn't taken a lot of sacks compared to some QB's. Credit again to the offensive line. So thus far, I would say Nix best draft pick has to be Spiller. He has the potential to put up huge numbers if Gailey can get his head out of his ass and use him like he should be.

The one, the only, Tebow thread
Luxy312 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wish there was a way to rate a thread awful or even worse, because this one has surely accomplished that. Tim Tebow? Really? Basically the suggestion is to take a QB that has been moderately accurate but has issues being able to throw the ball downfield, and replace him with a quarterback that is worse in every facet of the passing game and can only be used as a runner in the option. The "winner" comments are complete nonsense. Go back and look at the games he "won" in Denver, and you'll see a team playing tremendous defense, but barely doing anything on the offensive side of the ball. He was clearly outplayed by a horrendous Sanchez in New York and now is a third string QB and you want the bills to give a 4th round pick for him? LOLOLOLOLO. Complete lack of football knowledge of any kind. -
This in spades. Let's review the Seattle game. 43 pass attempts and averaged 5.0 yards per. Only 21 run attempts and averaged 5.6 yards per. Yet Gailey is too stubborn to change his game plan. This has been the same sorry story all year. TJ Graham is garbage. Waste of a pick.

Sullivan: This reads like we wrote it
Luxy312 replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That article was spot on in terms of the attitude of fans. I'll have to admit that I was tricked going into this season. I bought the hype that Mario Williams and the moves on defense were going to have this team ready to play. I bought into the hype that the Bills could get it done offensively based on what they did last year. All of it is just what this article says in terms of being futility. I bought the Sunday Ticket this year based on the hype. While I did see them look decent at times, it was as usual in terms of being against only the bad teams. Good teams whip their butts up and down the field and our coach is too stubborn to change his game plan. Good riddance to the Ticket for next year. Not buying it until they put a product on the field that I can be proud of. -
[closed]TJax: Can he be worse than what we have seen?
Luxy312 replied to Bronc24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes he can. Fundamental flaw in this team is not QB, but god awful coaching and lack of leadership. I would rather see them lose out at this point with Fitz than play with Tar-Tar. -
Finding a QB - lets think of it this way
Luxy312 replied to peterpan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's fun to speculate on the success of other quarterbacks playing for other teams and make the assumption that they would be having the same success with this Bills team. I'm sorry, but until we get someone that can actually call plays offensively, it really won't matter who we have at quarterback. The Bills averaged 4.7 yards per pass attempt this Sunday and tried to throw the ball 43 times. On the flip side, the Bills averaged 5.6 yards per rush attempt and only ran it 21 times. To say that Gailey is stupid is an understatement. Besides all of that, there's still a key metric that people love to ignore. -2 in the turnover battle. They're -10 on the year with only 5 teams worse off. Sorry folks, but it doesn't matter if they draft Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, or Tyler Wilson. They're still going to suck until they get a coach that knows what he's doing. -
Any HC worth a damn would get 10-6 out of this team...
Luxy312 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Play calling was absolutely atrocious once again. You have dynamic weapons in CJ and Freddy and neither one has 10 carries to Fitz's 33 pass attempts. Just plain awful. Not getting the Sunday Ticket next year and will just plan on watching the Bears here locally. At least they're mostly putting a product on the field that I can tolerate. Gailey has to go. -
You're not asking a RT to be a great pass blocker, so in that regard I would contend that Hairston is already "the guy" at that position. Glenn has looked very good as of late as well, so there's really no spot for Long. Even if the Dolphins take a pass on re-signing Long, I think the Bills would take a pass on him. He is going to want too much money and more importantly, he's going to want too much money as a LT. I would take a pass on him for sure.
