  1. Just looked at the ELC rules..if you sign your ELC, and you are 18 or 19 by September 15th, your ELC can "slide" for those two years..the infamous 9 game rule . So back to juniors and I am guessing the $70K minimum and not eating into the 3 year ELC. His birthday is November 22nd, so he may want to not sign till after sophomore year unless he is guaranteed to be on the Sabres. At least that'show i read it.
  2. My oldest is off to college this year as a college freshman. Her birthday is August 5th, and we struggled with what to do when she turned 5, but chose to start her in September right after she turned 5. We were lucky in that she was heading to private school, and based on the testing they did prior to admittance they had no doubt she was ready. The testing BTW is a classroom setting for two half days to see how the kids interact with other kids, the teachers etc..not based on intelligence scores etc. Looking back on it, emotionally and academically it was the right decision, never had an issue with either that was out of the ordinary. Athletically, maybe another year would matter, maybe not. Think it matters more with boys as they are still growing at 17 ..girls not so much. She is going where she wanted to go and excited about swimming, so all worked out in the end. Now my son is in 10th grade, and a late March birthday, and we sent him at 5 as well. He plays lacrosse, and started in 9th grade JV, but not 10th. The 9th graders that moved up and took several starting spots were all older than the 10th graders who lost spots... very weird.
  3. I guess it will depend on how good he is, and can he immediately play in the NHL vs the AHL. If that good to play immediately in the NHL, will want to burn that 3-year ELC as fast as possible I woud think while getting paid the $850K max. But then again, he would do that anyway even he went straight to the AHL, just get paid $70K i think. IN other words, i dont have a clue, maybe an expert like Shrader or Darin can give the reasons pro/con leaving college for a really good player
  4. Damn Boyst, July in Richmond was hot as hades. Couple weeks ago only outside stuff I did was run before the sun was up...and inside rest of the day. You are only couple hundred miles away no?
  5. Damn it..hate this game they play not getting us the Game Pass code in time for the first preseason game. And yes, I know 3 days still to the first game, but I am assuming we will not get in time. Seem to remember ordering and canceling with 7 days last year, proly have to do same thing again this year
  6. where you live H2o? I live in Richmond and that's a rough ride after a game..have to figure out of the lot no earlier than 5 Pm. If in Northen VA, doable. If Central, Western, or Eastern, consider getting a hotel say in Altoona to be safe( if driving 99)
  7. Summer is hit or miss for his podcasts, great fun to go to Chatter( place he owns with Povich and Gary Williams) and have breakfast while he records the thing. Plan on it sometime in the fall!
  8. now that's a damn good point!
  9. I don't know, the Titans are getting all kinds of mad love and most"experts" think they will win the division, the Jaga have all the talent in the world on paper, the Texans won last year with god awful QB play that figures to be better, and the Colts have Luck...top to bottom prolly stronger than the the AFC East. cause maybe you got a ticket that says plus $1400 for them to win the AFC..as I did last year
  10. Astro, love your stuff and thank you for all you do but would hate to see what you call me at practice ...quite possibly much worse than bandwagon!
  11. Pooj, don't know if you like podcasts or not, but he was just onKornheiser''s, great listen. makes me feel very old I have been listening to Mr. Tony for almost 25 years now.
  12. The problem is the older you get, you buy better booze. For instance, what we would call our "everyday" bottle of wine 10 years ago cost $8, now it's closer to $15..and we usually are one a day. My wife went from Tangueary to Hendricks as her gin of choice.. I am no longer knocking back Buds..usually a craft with the occasional Genny thrown in!
  13. Just finished watching the first two episodes of "the Guestbook" on TBS. By Greg Garcia, so if you liked Earl and Hope, you will prolly like this show. I thought they were great! Lots of great actors and actresses, and some old favorites from his previous shows to boot!
  14. again..for the third time..did I ever say at anytime United did anything wrong here in this particular case????? United did not take this reservation either...Air Canada did(their partner airline btw)..that's why I stated 2 times Air Canada's mess to fix! In terms of carrier assuming liability and winning /losing lawsuits..here are some different Contracts of Carriages for different airlines. Even after paying this fee, airlines take no financial or guardianship responsibilities(at least these two). Others may have differing contracts of carriage, these were just the first that popped u in the google search. and this from the Department of Transporation..https://www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.dev/files/docs/Kids_Fly_Alone.pdf again, this is a subjective area that each carrier decides how to handle based on the risk of litigation, customer loyalty etc.
  15. Well, not as much as last year when I had ticket on them winning the AFC LOL. And BTW, that opening 2 minutes I am pretty sure ole Doug just washed/rinsed/repeated from his opening PC as Bills head coach LOL. Marrone was a very likable guy his first year, then he consciously made the decision he was going to act like Belichek in his second, at least that's what i think Whether that was to win games or justify his reason for opting out, we will never know.
  16. I would argue spending time at the bar or OTB is productive and with adults and would have gone that way. In terms of childcare costs, have a friend/ ex-neighbor where both spouses worked at GE with very good jobs that i am sure paid very well. The wife decided she wanted to run her own business, and after a ton research, about 10 years ago opened their first "early education center".. They have six today, are no longer our neighbor's LOL, husband retired at age 51 to be assistant Crew coach at a local university..let's just say the investment and risk has paid off handsomely for her!
  17. Okay...so my context of saying " i did a poor job of explaining my position" did not register I guess. I guess my saying " United was 100% within their rights in their situation to deny boarding, and this was Air Canadas mess to fix" did not register. So I will try again, My position is that United requires kids to be 16 to fly alone, while most others airlines require younger ages. And that is 100% the airlines choice, it's their business, and they can decide what their position is relative to risk, customer revenue, and brand loyalty/impacts. . Again, no one is requiring anyone to fly United..it is their fee, and if you choose to fly United, you agree to this policy and fee. My position is that requiring a fee for a 15-year-old is purely a way to drive revenue..has nothing to do with safety or the law. Take a gander at unaccompanied minor policies..they are all over the board. When booking flights for kids, these fees absolutely go into consideration, along with price and schedule. I know, I have done the process several times over the last 4 years or so. But wow...$150 !!!!...WOWZER. Even if you believe that a 15-year-old needs someone to help him find his seat, ..that is outrageous. Most likely a big reason why my kids have never flown on United. And I never said my kids were talented, as long time posters here would know my thoughts can be quite the opposite LOL...but they can read freaking signs, have cell phones, and can make decisions like any other kid their age can. My rant is more that for the most part, we choose now as a society to believe kids are always in "stranger danger" and the world is a scary place and that kids today just can't make the same decisions as kids 20, 30, 50 years ago did. All in an age where kids are connected better than ever through cell phones, social media etc, are better educated about risks and how to deal with them, and when traveling carry a credit card and know how to use them well!!!!. End of rant!
  18. Ha...$5 is too freaking much! Now, what law you be referring to? My kids have flown alone, taken Uber alone, taken trains alone, taken subways and buses alone proly starting at about age 13...and i don't believe I have broken any laws!
  19. First, I did a poor job of explaining my position. United was 100% within their rights to deny boarding, that is their rule that someone needs to be 16 to fly alone. My only complaint was that United makes the number 16..that is the joke. This was Air Candas mess to fix, they issued the ticket knowing full well the age of the passenger. And as far as context, I proly have more context on this than most.My kids have flown alone several times well under the age of 16, and this United policy has nothing to do with safety or the kids being "minors", it has to do with them looking to collect fees for doing little to nothing. Take a gander at Southwest "young Traveler " policy...kids as young as 12 do not need to be accompanied as long as they are not dolts..and SW takes no responsibility if a flight is delayed, canceled etc. https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/family/young-travelers.html And just as a point of reference, I am a very frequent flyer who things most fees like luggage fees, better seats etc are 100% justified...just not this asinine rule that a 15 year cant find his way around an airport...rubbish. And we wonder why this kids grow up coddled. Crimminy, my just turned 16-year-old is a counselor at camp for 8-year-olds and responsible for teaching them to sail, but 3 months ago United would have said he was too dumb to read a sign.
  20. the kid was 15, I don't think he needs extra guidance. Every other airline Bills Fan M.Ds niece would have been just fine to fly alone and avoid the $150 fee. And maybe i am nuts, but I thnk a 13 year old is perfectly capable of reading/following signs that say "Bagge Claim/Exit/Ground Transportation". United did absolutely zilch for Bills Fan MD niece, and collected $150! No, Air Canada initially booked the ticket, and they are a normal airline that says 15-year-olds can fly by themselves. Even another airline would not think a 15 year could not fly alone...hence the issue at the United counter for the return flight...outward flight was on Air Canada. BTW, almost all airlines are 12, and you can accompany a minor to the gate with a pass given at check in by the airline...and the person at final destination can also get a pass to meet said child at gate...all at ZERO cost. Again, this is a pure fee generator for United. I should add my just turned 16 son tools around DC all the time by himself and with friends, going to Nats games, the monuments at night etc with his friends taking metro/Uber/bike etc. So i am certainly biased that I think 15-year-old kids can read signs and be aware of their surrondings
  21. My question is can you line up at the 2 and drop kick for a 1 point conversion?
  22. Bad 'month already and we only on day 4. Vacation booze bills can kill ya.
