Chris Brown is coming to Buffalo tomorrow for a visit...
1billsfan replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't count on that. I see this thing being only getting cleared come draft day. Brown and Rhodes are backup players only, that can't be relied upon as starting tail backs. Willis' trade value just went south along with San Diego's MT "we're only trading Turner for a 1st and 3rd" (that sounds very funny after a pro bowl caliber RB like Jones fetched only a switch of 2nd round picks). This thing will sort itself out only when push comes to shove and teams are on the clock having players with only a 1 year shelf life like McGahee and Turner. -
Rhodes to visit Buffalo tomorrow
1billsfan replied to billieve2006's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all those contemplating Rhodes as our #1 back, he's not that kind of player: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/236986 As much as people are clamoring for defense as the first pick, I'm starting to get the feeling it may end up being Marshawn Lynch. McGahee then goes to the highest bidder (anywhere from a 2nd through 4th round pick). This team wants to move forward and I think they've made up their mind on getting McGahee out of here. Plus, M. Bush probably won't be there in the 2nd when we pick on account of his stock is supposed to rocket after his pro day. Just a feeling I have on this one. If we go RB in the first, I see 2 LBs and a CB as our next three picks not neccessarily in that order. -
Brought to you by the Chicago Bears board... Akuma2000: "I'd say Benson was our best offensive weapon, when he was in the backfield the play action was better and Rex got sacked alot less. The Bears original 2nd rd pick was 59th if not mistaken (i'll check and correct), they still come out the winner with a high 2nd rd pick at 37th." SlipScreen: "Please for the love of god pull your mouth away from bensons nuts" http://boards.chicagobears.com/forums/2/39...ShowThread.aspx My guess is Slipscreen's not pleased with this trade.

5 picks in the first three rounds
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Two words, Matt Leinart. Face it skippy, you have no idea if any of those players will be there when we pick. Got that Nostradamus? -
4 million a year looks like chicken feed now. I went through Spikes' stats for the last 8 games of the season and these were the highlights: Bills/Ravens - 11 tackles (lead team), 8 solo/ 3 assist Bills/Chargers - 9 tackles (lead team), 6 solo/ 3 assist Bills/Colts - 9 tackles, 5 solo/4 assist The other 5 games he averaged around 5 tackles per. Is he the Superman Spikes of old? No, but he definately did show signs of turning the corner during the last half of the season. Spikes doesn't fit the youth movement going on and I don't think they like his history of outspokeness over team personnel decisions. The Bears would be getting an above average OLB and a player with a ton of passion. Add to that they'd also be getting a second round pick to choose a player that eventually could replace Spikes, I think it would be an attractive offer rather then having a player that is that disgruntled. I really care more about the draft than this possible trade, but it does throw another interesting topic on the TSW bonfire.

I've been reading the Bears fan forum today and they had me laughing. They are ripping Briggs saying that he's no where near as good as he thinks he is and that Urlacher is the only reason he piles up the big stats. Then after ripping him, they start with the "Bears should get no less than a 1st and a 3rd for Briggs". WTF? If the Bills have any interest in Briggs then they should only offer up Spikes (conditional based on performance) and a 2nd. That would be fair for both teams. The Bills will be on the hook for a huge contract and lose a high draft pick in the process, while the Bears cut loose a disgruntled player that they won't have to give up the big bucks for and gain a 2nd rd pick and possible 2008 rd pick for. No way should the Bills give up a 1st when they could easily draft a linebacker that would be much cheaper in contrast to Briggs' demands. Giving them Spikes takes that 1st rounder off the table. If they do end up with Briggs, I'd hope the Bills would consider Lynch (while trying to trade McGahee) with that 1st pick.

5 picks in the first three rounds
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Petey cares! This is the stuff of nightmares to him. I'm still waiting on Petey to offer up something substantive here. -
Looks like the girlfriend may have been the one with the issues... http://nfl.aolsportsblog.com/2007/02/24/ma...ons-on-his-pas/ Note this little diddy... "County deputy district attorney who specializes in domestic violence cases declined to press charges, citing a lack of evidence and "grave inconsistencies" in the alleged victim's accusations. Lynch never was arrested or charged" I think the Bills are smart enough to figure out if there's a concern or not with this player. After reading this piece I'm starting to think that he may be a player that does have the "character" to be a Bill.

5 picks in the first three rounds
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The point of the post wasn't focus on who the trading partner would be. The last time I did this it completely got off track. Let's just say that between now and the draft some NFL team is in "L-O-V-E" with a player like Okoye, Branch, Quinn or Peterson who happens to fall that day to where some team in the twenties wants them badly enough. A lot of stuff could happen between now and the draft that could set up this scenario. Now as for Peterson, if he were to fall I think the Bills stay where they are and pick him. I have this sneaking suspicion that Cleveland will take Brady Quinn and Peterson does a free fall from there (Houston already has Green as their RB). Maybe it's the Crennel/Wies connection. I just think that the less we hear Quinn being linked to the Browns pick, the more I think they're playing possum so another team doesn't trade up with Detroit to get him. -
Unless it's Oakland or a team that has a very early 3rd round pick, I think that there's no way Marv sends a team our starting tailback for anything less than a second round pick. It's too risky (and even dumb) to let him go for a mid-third or later pick. They'd have no choice but to draft Marshaun Lynch (other than Peterson, the only sure thing starting tailback) and I don't think they want to draft that guy after his brush with the law regarding beating up his girlfriend.
-
How do you think Asante Samuels feels right now? Think about it, if he gets seriously injured then the Pats decision to franchised him cost him 73 million dollars. The guys who got franchised this year must be absolutely going out of their minds right now. Marv must be their hero now.
-
When the dust settles don't be suprised if we end up with 5 picks in the first three rounds... I feel that IF the Bills find a trading partner to move back in the pack for a second round pick (believe me, it is a plausible scenario) that they would have a decent shot to get these players... 1. Paul Posluzny LB (after trading back) 2a. Michael Bush RB 2b. Kenny Irons RB (after trading back in the first round) 3a. Tanard Jackson CB (after trading McGahee to the Raiders) 3b. David Irons CB This would be a great draft. The Bills would instantly have plugged most of their holes before the fourth round begins. They would then have two completely different style of runningbacks at their disposal to attack opposing defenses. It also stocks up on the CB depth of our team. May the best CBs win the starting positions.

langston walker at rt guard.....could iy happen?
1billsfan replied to youbotymyboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As of now on buffalobills.com, Walker's listed as second string RT behind Pennington. I'm sure there will be plenty of reshuffling to see what combination is best on the right side. -
1. Travis Henry is one slip up away from a year's suspension. Not a good risk there. 2. Marv and the boys have stayed firm on not bringing in players with questionable character. Like it or not, Travis has issues. So there you have it, Travis will not be a Bill again. I'm glad because I worry about Travis' long term outlook since there is none. The guy gets pounded every time he touches the ball. He never looks to avoid hits. This is great because it's his style and it has made him the back he is today. But these kind of backs wear out quickly and Travis is not all that big to start with. If McGahee leaves, the Bills will try to strike it rich with a RB between rounds 2-4. If that player fails then RB will be the #1 priority in the next offseason. So stop worrying about Travis, there's no way he comes back here.

Patrick Willis, Darrelle Revis or Amobi Okoye
1billsfan replied to Max997's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's our pick in Great Blue North's March 2nd projection - http://www.gbnreport.com/2007projection.html I think he's in the mix for that first round pick. -
Clements signs with 49ers, 8 years $80M

my math skills = not good Nate freaking Clements is the highest paid player in league history?????? That's still hard to believe. -
Clements signs with 49ers, 8 years $80M
1billsfan replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, that's outrageous for a player that's barely in the top five at his position. John Clayton said that whatever contract Clements signs that he'd be worth every penny. I don't know how many pennies make up 10 million a season and I could be out on a limb here, but I don't think that 4 interceptions and a touchdown return per season adds up to worth every penny status. I guess that San Francisco forgot what got them in trouble and into the "cap hell" years. I can't believe that Nate Clements is now the highest paid player in NFL history! That's just silly! I can't stop shaking my head in disbelief...Nate Clements? -
Let me play devil's advocate: McGahee = less than 1000 yards 2006 (hasn't come close to self-acclaimed "greatness" billing) Fletcher = played MLB for one of the worst teams at run defense (most of those yards gained were up the middle) Spikes = we haven't had Spikes since September 2005 Clements = played like a pro bowler second half of 2006, was only an average player the season and a half prior Also remember that the Patriots were a group of nobodys before they became a great "team". This looks to be the blueprint over at One Bills Drive. No more "stars", just a bunch of guys that shut up, listen and play hard on Sunday. Make no mistake, there will be a learning curve for the new players that are coming on board. But we've gone the "star" route with TD, I'm willing to wait and see what the new FAs and rookies bring to the table. Of the previous purge from recent seasons, only Pat Williams was really missed. Was Moulds, Milloy, Vincent, Adams or Bledsoe missed? If those guys you mentioned were so great why was our defense such a disaster? Got to have some patience, there still will be plenty of reasons to believe this team will improves in 2007.

...because the offers we've been receiving aren't nearly enough compensation for the hole that would be left in our offense for the 2007 season. We'd much rather have Willis fulfill the remaining year of his contract and see what our options are after that, than to give him away for nothing. So unless a team is willing to trade us their second round pick, I suggest them to not even pick up the phone." Of course there's a smattering of hyperbole in that statement, but this is what a GM needs to do if he is to have any chance at getting a second round pick from another team. I actually believe that it's NOT in this teams best interest to let Willis walk out the door for anything less than a second round pick. Getting an extra third is a horrible option when you consider the Bills would no longer have a true starting runningback on their team for 2007. So tell teams to "go jump" unless you're willing to give us a 2nd round pick. You watch, teams will start feeling pressure from their local media and fan base when they see that they are screwed not having a solid runningback. If this never comes to pass then we have McGahee with a huge chip on his shoulder to prove his worth on the field, basically auditioning for his next "big" payday. That is not a problem, that is a very good thing for the Bills. You took a year off, you owe us a year baby! Come on Marv. Time to start seeing if there is any "REAL" interest in this player.
-
McGahee's not leaving here for for a fourth or fifth. The Bills would rather keep him here to perform (see contract year) while still drafting his replacement in this coming draft. The Bills are the ones holding the cards here. Either the Bills get a second or a third, or he fulfills the remaining year on his contract. Remember, if McGahee's still with the Bills this season he'll be the first guy on the list teams will look to deal 2008 pick(s) if their runningback goes down with a serious injury.

If Okoye is gone the Bills should trade out
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So the prospect of an NFL team trading down for extra picks is now "Madden-esque"? That's too much! Thanks for the laugh man. -

1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course you need a willing partner. The premise should have been obvious, that "if" an offer were to be made "then" the Bills should actually go ahead and trade down providing they were given the appropriate value for the trading of draft picks. I didn't realize some here needed a stipulation of what should have been a given. Are you guys sniffing glue or something? BTW, the exaggerations are low rent and very obnoxious. -

I'm not going to argue with someone when they don't even read the entire thread. It's becoming annoying peeps. -

Your first post and your telling us what rules you want to have on this board? Now that's absurd. As for your pet peeve Peteypeeps, been there done that bro: http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...=59067&hl=# http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showt...=59067&hl=# http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=60046# Per the "draft value chart", dropping back from 12 to 21 would garner you a mid-second round pick. Dropping back again from 21 to 32 gets you a mid-third round. So my premise isn't without base as you've seemed to have hinting at. Now instead of bitching, how about posting what your thoughts are regarding the draft and who the Bills should take? Or perhaps you'd like to be just another whiner without substance on this board? It's a shame, but for every topic it seems that there are posters lurking in the weeds ready to tear it down without providing anything substantive in return. It really dumbs down the discussions.
