Bruce Smith vs. Lawrence Taylor...who was better?
1billsfan replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not even close...IMO Lawrence Taylor should be considered one of the top five NFL football players of all time. I think Bruce Smith would be somewhere around #15-25. ...and NO I'm not going to make a list. -
Trent Edwards interview with Mike Francesa
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all those who thanked me for posting the interview, you're very welcome. I can't believe the wide ranging responses to my observations. I really didn't think I was being that mean towards Trent, so I had to go back and listen to the interview and re-read my comments. I still don't get the part where this has anything to do with JP Losman. I may have been late to the party there, but Losman did indeed fail here. The Losman "fanboy" argument is gone people. Trent has been the man for a year and a half year now. Can some of you guys (you know who you are) get past it already? Maybe I'm wrong, but as a fan I expect the starting QB to adopt the city he plays in. Did Brady leave Foxborough for six months? Did Payton leave Indy for six months? Did Kurt Warner leave St. Louis? Did Rothlesberger leave Pitt? Did Brees leave New Orleans? Did Kelly leave Buffalo once he arrived here? Please tell me if I'm wrong, but I get the distinct feeling that none of those QBs left for anything longer than a month long vacation. Sorry, if I've got a problem with Trent leaving Buffalo to go play golf for six months. This is not new, I complained about it last year. After that interview, I got the impression that he thinks he's much better than he really is and doesn't take any amount of criticisms very well (btw, he's not the only player on this team that thinks he's better than he really is). He needs to either get better or grow a much thicker skin. -
This a interview with Trent Edwards that I watched on the YES/WFAN channel on January 30th. It was recorded in Tampa the Monday before the Superbowl. It's about 19 links down the page. http://www.wfan.com/pages/744503.php This is what I came away with... Trent is a little too thin skinned. It's clear to me that he is bothered by any and all who question his abilities. He's also clearly a liar since he states that he doesn't listen or read any of them. How can you be bothered by them if you don't read or hear them? That's what I would call a contradiction. If he's that shook up by what little criticisms have come his way then he's got issues playing for this team. Trent is homesick. He makes a point to say exactly how far away from home he is and that he's the furthest player from his home. That living so far away from friends and family is still a big adjustment. Get the feeling that Buffalo will never be his kind of town. Trent is addicted to golf. Says he plays six months per year. That much commitment to golf is not what I like to hear from a player that is going into his third year as a starting NFL quarterback. Does Trent even like playing football? This interview did not give me the warm and fuzzies about Trent's future with this team. It wasn't a necessarily a bad interview, but for me it was hard not to read between the lines. Here's to hoping Trent will grow a tough skin and become addicted to becoming a better, more healthy, winning QB for the Bills.

Dick Jauron is a better coach than...
1billsfan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dick Jauron = 1 winning season, 7 losing seasons Easiest person to blame???? Holy sh_t, I can't believe that there are still fans here at TSW supporting this loser and holding on to the ridiculous notion that Dick Jauron is the only good NFL head coach in history who somehow someway consistently finds himself in the most unfortunate of circumstances. Three words...GIVE...IT...UP! -

The head coach of the Washington Generals? http://www.washingtongenerals.com/ http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...lotz/index.html Naaaaaaaah...Jauron is worse than him too! Dick frequently mentions how hard his team plays and yet they STILL lose. -
Near OT game in Super Bowl got me thinking
1billsfan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best and only change I would be in favor of is that the winner of the coin toss has the choice to take the ball placed on their own 20 yard line or let the other team have the ball placed at the far 20 yard line. Then play it like a regular game. Driving the ball 50 yards (for a field goal attempt) is no easy proposition and gives the team that loses the coin toss and doesn't get the ball first a more than fair shot to stop the team that won the toss and elected to receive. -
How in the world is Pitt favored by so much?
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You make a correlation to the outcome of this 2009 Superbowl and the bowls of the early nineties, then mention that this new era is completely different to that era. Your second point is the correct one. Since this is a watered down league, the team that has the best chance to win it is the team that's on a roll. Arizona is clearly that team, they have the veteran QB who will not be rattled by the Steeler defense. There's a much better chance that Ben Rothlesberger is the QB who gets rattled and throws up a ton of picks than Kurt Warner doing that tonight. Arizona has 12 takeaways in the playoffs so far. It's amazing that they are getting no absolutely no credit at all. I see DRC taking one to the house. -

I think you've been drinking to much of the big bad Steeler coolaid. What happened during the season when the Steelers had to face a real QB? vs Eagles - Steeler defense 3 sacks, Big Ben 1 int loss vs Giants - Steeler defense 0 sacks, Big Ben 4 int loss vs Colts - Steeler defense 2 sacks, Big Ben 3 int loss vs Titans - Steeler defense 1 sack, Big Ben 2 int loss Yes they looked mighty impressive against the Fitzpatricks, Flaccos and Shaubs of the NFL world, but they did NOT look so good when they faced the NFL's best. So now they have to face a red hot Kurt Warner tomorrow. The Steelers are the ones who should be nervous. Warner is the best at getting the ball out of his hands and avoiding sacks. They won't start running the ball until the Steelers back off the blitz mode and are hit with a couple big touchdown plays by the Cardinals. We'll know who's right in a little over 24 hours. -

Sorry if my opinion offended you. I swore off betting on football games about ten years ago and just wanted to let it be known for those of you who will be betting on the game. -

I think Arizona's protection is not as big a factor as you might think. The spread offense and Warners ability to get the ball out of his hands quickly is going to end up neutralizing Pitts pass rush. Warner is the perfect QB to have success against this Pitt team. -

Matchups are a much greater indicator as to who wins championships. This is the worst QB/offense matchup the Steelers could possibly face. Plus, Warner doesn't become a p*ssy when he gets knocked down like Marsha does. That being said, there are probably a lot more that agree with you than me on this one. -
...that blitz crazy defense. Last Superbowl I picked the Giants to beat the Pats last year because I thought the Giant defense would get pressure on Brady and the huge weight of that undefeated record would get to the Pats team as a whole. The Pats simply did not look like the same team that was running up the score for most of that season. They looked very shaky at the end of the year. This Superbowl I'm picking the Cardinals. I felt this way two weeks ago and I still feel this way. The Cardinals are playing unbelievable football right now. Warner will pick these Steelers apart. He has the fastest release and is deadly accurate with three top flight receivers to throw the ball to. This 7 point spread favoring the Steelers is ridiculous. Yes, the Steelers have a great defense, but their offense is rather ordinary. You just sit back and watch Kurt Warner cement his place in football history and eventually the Hall of Fame on Sunday. I'm calling it 34-24, Cardinals win the Superbowl. BTW, I don't bet anymore so please don't think I've got any money riding on this. Just my opinion.

Kelsey will make the pro bowl this year
1billsfan replied to grammer_police's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are being serious with this post then you need to seek some professional help. Dude has 17 total sacks in his six year career as an NFL defensive end. That's pitiful. The only thing more pathetic than Chris Kelsay's play on the football field is the amount of money the Bills agreed to give an at best, backup defensive end. I've never told another poster that they should post less so as not to embarrass themselves, but your post came close. Chris Kelsay sucks donkey balls. -
What Scouts Inc says about the top 2 TEs
1billsfan replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills would be insane to draft a tight end before the third round. The position just isn't as important as it once was since the officials started to enforce the no contact after five yard rule. This has now become a look WR first, dump pass to RB second option league. The days of TE's being a dominating force like they were a few years ago are over. It's a luxury to have a great pass catching TE who can get open. Would you want one? Of course you would! At the expense of a 1st or 2nd round pick? Not a chance! Not when you have players named Keith Ellison, Chris Kelsay and Duke Preston as starters in far more key positions. Besides all that, Derek Fine was beginning to look like a real tight end the second half of his rookie season. It may sound crazy but he could be our Dallas Clark. Not "as good" of course, but "almost as good" which might be good enough. -
If you think differently then that's fine. But I have zero faith in Dick Jauron and see a disaster season dead ahead. Hey, I wanted to trade for him! The guy is a freaking monster! Don't you have better things to do than to remember my dumbest post ever?! Hey, just remember who was the only one here who gave a detailed prediction on how and why the Giants would beat the 18-0 Patriots in the Superbowl.
-
What gets old is listening to Jauron's press conferences when he mentions how hard it is to win in the NFL, how hard his players play, how hard they practice, that they just need to try harder, all the while being the only head coach in the AFC's east division that doesn't hold outdoor practices when the weather gets chilly. Our head coach is a wimp and our players play like a bunch of wimps. Sorry if the truth hurts pal.

I never said they were on par with the 0-16 Lions. Just inferring that after the 2009 season the Bills will be considered one of the worst teams in the league. I'm basing this prediction on how they finished the 2008 season and looking ahead at the 2009 schedule. Hopefully the team will be able to turn around their fortunes in 2010 with a new coach just like the Dolphins did this past year. I see the 2009 season as hopeless with Dick Jauron as their head coach.
-
#1 Poor coaching #2 Maybe they suck at "down field" blocking because they rarely get the opportunity to do it because they almost never have a player "down field" with the ball in his possession. #3 Poor coaching. Evans, Johnson, Parrish, Lynch/Jackson and play calling that wasn't so damn ridiculously predictable would have solved that problem. #4 Poor coaching. #5 Sorry, but our pass rush was the worst I've even seen. #6 I thought Fine played pretty good at the end of the year. #7 That's hard to tell from watching TV. #8 Poor coaching. #9 Johnson was ready yet the coaches stupidly did not play him nearly enough. #10 Poor coaching. Hey wait, I see a trend here.
-
Sorry but you're wrong, even a mediocre team would have had a 9-7 record with the easy as pie schedule the Bills had in 2008. In 2009, this pathetically led team will have no more than 5 wins... Home: Miami, New England, New York Jets, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Cleveland Away: Miami, New England, New York Jets, Atlanta, Carolina, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Tennessee I see their only wins coming from beating the Jets once, Houston, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Kansas City. Even giving them that many wins seems a bit generous. Don't kid yourself, Dick Jauron is THAT bad of a football coach.

Learn to coach what you have
1billsfan replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They crashed because they played lifeless football against their divisional opponents, the Browns and the Niners. A team takes on the personality of their head coach and so too did the Buffalo Bills who looked like they wanted to play football about as much as their lifeless cardboard cutout of a head coach on the sideline. This team is going to have no more than 4 or 5 wins next year because they will essentially be a headless body. You can attempt to give the head coach sage advice all you want, but those attempts will be in vein. We are in the Rich Kotite era of this franchise. It's hopeless to think he can change and become a winning football coach, let alone a head coach that could win a game if he somehow lucked his way into the playoffs. I'm looking forward to the 2010 season one in which the current head coach will no longer be on the sideline and that flicker of hope for the Bills to win the championship is restored once again. -
Sorry, but you're a tad late to the "Kelsay is ridiculously overpaid and should be cut" party.

Kurt Warner vs Chris Kelsay, winners vs losers
1billsfan replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's a test of whether you have a head coach the players respect or not. Of the NFL's final four head coaches... Tomlin Harbaugh Whisenhunt Reid ...if you were an NFL player, could you imagine asking one of them to go get you a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallos and not have one of them knock your block off? I could see Dick asking the player what size cup he'd like. -
Ralph gave the finger to Bills fans when he retained Jauron. He was unwilling to swallow his pride that he made the biggest boneheaded decision of his lifetime when he gave Jauron an extension before even midseason point. So here we sit and wait for the end of the 2009 season when Dick will no doubt be fired (after the Bills nosedive with a 4 or 5 win season) and the Bills can finally ditch the antiquated, outdated and constrictive Tampa 2 scheme. That means the Bills are at least three years away from having any semblance of a strong and dominating defense. The Tampa 2 is a chicken sh_t scheme, that fits our chicken sh_t head coach like a glove.

Looks like the NFL has no problem with dirty hits
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you read tough guy? The rule has been posted here a few times and it clearly was NOT a legal hit. While Darryl Stingley never said that Tatum's hit was dirty, NFL players, coaches and fans knew differently. You don't have to try to decapitate a defenseless player to prove you're tough. If you can't play by the rules you shouldn't be in the league. Oh wait, the league apparently endorses it...never mind. -

1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At 53 seconds in it looks like Clark is trying to split McGahee's head open with his helmet. You're supposed to tackle with your head up, hit with your pads and wrap (not tuck) your arms. These guys know what they're doing and put trying to force a fumble higher on the priority list than the health of a fellow NFL football player. Just because the league condones this dangerous technique by turning a blind eye to it doesn't make it right.
