I'm Gaining Interest in Blaine Gabbert
1billsfan replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C'mon man you have to admit, the name doesn't exactly inspire greatness now does it...LOL Obviously it's not really the name, but the Todd Marinovich/Brian Brohm factors that gives me the creeps. It will take two to three years for this guy to get ready to be at the starting level for an NFL offense, then another two or three years of experience to see if he can be a playoff caliber starter. That's five years before you know what you got. I'll pass thank you. -

Where was the production last season? Only 16 touchdowns in an inferior conference? Spread offense? How well did Brian Brohm translate to the NFL from the spread? He may say that he'll out work everybody, but that means nothing when you have no pocket presence under pressure and you're afraid of the blitz. He looks like a wimp, sounds like a wimp, plays like a wimp and has a wimpy name (not his fault obviously). If you have to tell people how good you are then you probably suck. If you really wanted to prepare yourself as a future NFL quarterback and you've been groomed your whole life to be an NFL quarterback , then you wouldn't have chickened out and picked an inferior college running the spread offense. His best selling point seems to be that he was recruited by Harbaugh. It's obviously not his play on the field because you never hear about that. He's Todd Marinovich 2.0. You'd have to get your head examined if you bet on a guy who has never proven he can throw a TD pass by dropping back, facing a pass rush and throwing a TD to someone that wasn't you first read. But hey, he's got the hair, the look, the size…so he's got to be a franchise QB! I'll be laughing at the team that picks this guy. From that National Football Post article… "Gabbert seemed like a natural leader, but he was so polished that one scout wondered how much of his presentation was the result of an interview coach." This kid's nothing more than a marketing pitch. He's not a franchise quarterback. Blaine Gabbert, just the name alone SCREAMS bust. He'll be the worst QB taken in the first three rounds of this draft. -

This game is all about throwing touchdowns. Pick it apart all you want, but that's what he did. If he were given those three extra games he would have probably end up with 27 TDs. That's a very good season. Is it Brady, Brees or Manning good? No, but if that's kind of production you're looking for then Gabbert or Newton certainly will never ever attain those kind of lofty numbers. Neither will ANY QB being drafted this year. Not sure why you are so down on the guy, other than it's a general frustration that he's not a all-timer like the ones I mentioned. Fitzpatrick will have this next season to prove that 2010 wasn't a fluke. Of course according to you, he had a bad season so you'll need to see a 35-40 TD season for you to be satisfied he's the man. Now let me be clear, I don't think he's got Brady, Brees or Manning game. But I do think he's got Eli Manning type level of game. If he doesn't show a consistent high level of game in 2011, then the Bills will probably be picking a QB in next year's draft. For now let's get him a running game and a defense and see what happens. -

"he had way more bad games than good games" That right there is what I'm talking about when I say that someone knows very little about the game of football. Fitzpatrick had a very good year and to say otherwise is just being plain ignorant. Also, to play your nonsense switching rolls game, Aaron Rodgers would have had a very hard time matching Fitzpatrick's numbers if he were inserted into this starting lineup of a pitiful team two games into the 2010 season. Tell us, how many TDs do you think Rodgers would have had in those 13 games with no running game, a lousy #1 in Evans and no name backups before the season began? -

Again...throwing to previous nobodies, free agent rookies, having no tight end threat, no running game threat, no shortened fields. Sorry, but fans who try to downplay Fitzpatrick's very solid 2010 season know very little about the game of football. -

And on the eighth day, God created Blaine Gabbert, and lo he was not just good, he was awesomeness incarnate… "What they’ll find is that Gabbert has been preparing for this moment of reckoning since he was just a boy. “This has always been my goal,” he says. “And I would say I’ve worked harder at it than most.” "He enjoyed riding his bike through their neighborhood with his adoring friends, but sports had been his passion." "What Gabbert wanted was to compete and win forever." “He was very advanced, very intense and very focused — you could tell he was headed for some big-time athleticism.” "Hammer and his staff took a boy who was tight in his hips and hamstrings, lacking core strength and speed, and taught him how to move — to excel at many of the very same things that make millions of dollars of difference every year at the Combine in Indianapolis." "And then there’s the best part: his mentality, his drive, his focus. Nobody wants this more than Blaine.” "“I just kept working my tail off" "“Every time I walk onto a field,” he says, “I hit that switch and turn into a whole different me. Everything I’ve trained for, everything I’ve worked for, comes into play. And I know that it’s all been worth it.” First, this has to be the most unintended funniest article I've ever read. Second, can this silver-spoon puke stop saying that he's more competitive and works harder than everybody? You didn't compete at the combine and you picked a gimmicky, stat producing offense to play in college. If you felt like you were the best QB in the country and were preparing your whole life for the NFL, why DID you choose the spread offense program? -

More like the Brian Brohm of QBs... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1630777 "Reading Defenses: Will take time to transition to the NFL because he runs the typical spread offense. Only reads one receiver on many plays, or even half of one side of the field. Stares down receivers and defenders read him easily. Does not look for secondary receivers, tends to take off instead. Fails to see blitzes coming consistently, even when they aren't disguised." You guys want THIS over a defensive playmaking monster? Seriously? Taking Gabbert sets this team back another 5 years. -

Did you not read all of the the parameters I listed? So 23 TDs in 13 games is now considered a mediocre to bad performance by the Einsteins here?...LOL He ranked 13th in TDs thrown and that's with three less games than everybody else. If he played three extra games and averaged his TDs thrown he'd have been right behind Aaron Rodgers. Look, you can go ga ga and drool over Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton all you want, the Bills need the adults in the room to pick Fairley, Dareus, Miller, Quinn or Bowers as their first round selection and let some other team waste four years on these wannabe QBs. Our team needs to grow up and start making intelligent decisions. -

Let me drop some knowledge on you about Ryan Fitzpatricks' 2010 season… Stevie Johnson, previously a no name player - 10 TDs, 82 receptions David Nelson, previously a no name undrafted free agent rookie - 3 TDs 31 receptions No running game - take away Fitzpatricks' 269 rushing yards and the Bills ranked 30th in rushing in the NFL 6 rushing TDs - Bills ranked 32nd in the league in rushing TDs Bills ranked 27th in turnovers on defense (equals lack of shortened fields) No tight end threat Given all of these parameters, Ryan Fitzpatrick STILL threw 23 TDs in 13 games. You can try to make fun of that, but you're the one who's looking silly. His 23 TDs rank as the 9th best season in Bills history. He was literally the only offensive threat the Bills had. Teams knew they had no rushing attack, teams knew they were going to throw the ball, yet he was still able to throw TD passes. Imagine how good Fitzpatrick would look if the Bills had a running game. A tight end threat. A ball hawking defense. Get your head out of the clouds and stop looking at Gabbert and Newton like they're David Cassidy and Donnie Osmond and you're a young girl in the early 70s. This team needs defense, not dreamy franchise QB wannabes. -

If the Bills don't take Newton or Gabbert with the first pick then it makes no sense to take one until the fifth round on (maybe one of the 4th picks depending on who's there). Ask yourself what the chances are the either Dalton or Ponder could ever become as good as Fitzpatrick is right now. The answer to me is there's a very slim chance of that happening. Fitzpatrick is a good QB on his way to being a very good QB. He's smart and threw 23 TDs in 13 games coming in off the bench. Picking either Ponder or Dalton is throwing away a much needed starter somewhere else on the team, be it LB, DE, CB or OL. The Bills need starters! If they don't take QB in the first then they should just go with Fitzpatrick and reevaluate the position after this coming season. -
Mock has Marvin Austin going #14 to the Rams
1billsfan replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about Pete Prisco? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/story/14761529/mock-draft-fairley-certain-at-no-1-with-shifts-ahead -
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/623967-2011-mock-draft-complete-first-round-projection-post-combine-edition Could Austin now be seen as a great 2nd rd pick for us? A Miller, Austin one two punch? If Austin does hit the first round, that would almost guarantee a Taylor or Paea for us at #34.

Kelsay, Ayodele, Posluszny are currently listed as three of our starting LBs. + Von Miller had a fantastic combine. = Hells to the yes to a friggin special playmaking linebacker like him. There's going to be a good DE/DT run stuffer there at the #34, bank on it. Not saying that I'm locked in, but he should be seriously considered. -

Isn't Von Miller currently the same size as Clay Matthews? Clay Matthews 6'3" - 246 lbs http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MattCl99.htm Von Miller 6' 5/8" - 246 lbs http://footballsfuture.com/2011/combine/olb.html I've changed my tune on Miller, I think he's worthy of the #3 pick (check out his 40 time, WOW). With how deep this draft is at defensive line, I think we can get a good one in the 2nd or 3rd round. -
What is your dream for OUR top 2 picks
1billsfan replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're right, upon further review of Miller's combine (good added weight, kept blazing speed, jumping ability ect.). I'm solidly back in the Von Miller camp. I just might take him even over Fairley considering how good he looked with no "lack of maturity" concerns to deal with. I'll put it this way, I'd be very happy if they took Miller at #3. -
What is your dream for OUR top 2 picks
1billsfan replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The dream choices would be... 1. Fairley, Dareus or Quinn 2. Carimi, Sherrod, Solder, Watkins (am I leaving anybody out?) (3. LB or DE depending on what they did with that first pick.) It appears that there's going to be a quality O lineman there in the 2nd. -
The film don't lie. He looks like Bruce Smith on film.
-
Hey man, I already linked that in the poll thread (along with my rant)...LOL I strongly agree. I think he's the modern day version of Bruce Smith. Long arms, long legs, beyond menacing. I laugh at the people who say that Dareus is the "safer" pick! How is passing over the next Bruce Smith for a solid DT a "safe" pick. The Dolphins went "safe" when they picked Jake Long over Matt Ryan, how's that working out for them? When you are sitting at number three and the Panthers and Broncos are stupid enough to pass on Nick Fairley, you thank your lucky stars and pick him. I swear, people here have lost their minds on wanting Dareus over Fairley. Darues is a solid pro, Fairley is a Hall of Fame type.

Post-Combine: Who do YOU want to draft @ #3
1billsfan replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, I am completely shocked at the results here. Currently...Dareus 42 votes...Fairley 6 votes. What the bleep?????? Are you people serious????? What the heck did Nick Fairley do wrong? The guy came in shape, said the right things, did great in the drills, showed that he was fast in the 40, has the prefect body type for what we need. In fact I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think Nick Fairley looks like the second coming of Bruce Smith. Long arms, long legs, absolutely menacing towards lineman and QBs alike. Yet there are 42 people voting for the rotund Dareus who is a DT at the next level. He's not a DE, did you see his big wide body? I just found this article which sums up my feelings... http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/39883/is-fairley-being-fairly-evaluated "If six or seven NFL general managers pass on him come April, the joke's on them." You have a guy like Bowers who was hands down the best prospect going into college, however he never reached the level people thought he'd reach. That's a bad sign. Then you have a guy like Fairley who came from a JUCO, adjusted then became the most feared defensive lineman in the country. That's a very good sign, his talent and skills is on the accent. But people here are enamored with Dareus' very solid 4 year effort defensive lineman over a monster player like Fairley. I just do not get Fairley's fall from grace. I think people have lost their minds here. -
One player people are sleeping on here at TSW
1billsfan replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills selected JJ Watt over Nick Fairley, I would seriously have to consider relinquishing my fanship. That would be like selecting Patrick Kerney over Bruce Smith. It's amazing how a guy like Fairley gets dissed to the point of people thinking JJ Watt is a better choice. It's looking like the Bills will seriously get the opportunity to draft the next Bruce Smith because of the max over-analysis going on right now. There are people that are actually picking apart his mean attitude on the field. As if this is a negative! Nick Fairley gives the Bills defense an instant identity. One that hasn't been here since Bruce left. Seriously, what is not to love about Nick Fairley???? If the Bills let Failey get past them, it will be the biggest blunder in their draft history These are the only players that I'd live with the Bills passing over Nick Failey for...Quinn, Dareus, Green, Peterson. That's it. Anything else is a reach of Eric Flowers proportions. -
QBs drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round from 2000-2010
1billsfan replied to Phlegm Alley's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Line of fire???? Hardly. I don't think what I said was controversial at all. I think what's controversial is the short shrift many here continue to give Fitzpatrick. They act as if last season was a one and done thing. Sorry but after what he did last season, Fitzpatrick has cemented himself as a starting NFL QB for the next 6 years of his career, be it here or after he gets traded from Buffalo. It's not controversial, it's reality. Dude can play, it just took him a while to figure it all out. I look at that first pick this way, if either Newton or Gabbert are going to be perennial top 5 QBs in the NFL (that kind of franchise QB) then the Bills would have to take that player. But if not, Fitzpatrick can win you a Superbowl if the Bills build up a strong as nails defense and a supportive running game. I was extremely impressed by Fitzpatrick last year at how much he grew into the roll of starting QB. The chemistry he had with his receivers hasn't been seen here since Bledsoes' first year with the Bills. -
Gailey says while OT is not a crying need......
1billsfan replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kurt Warner was a great quarterback, McNabb was never a great quarterback. Big difference. You really should be giving Fitzpatrick much more credit than that. -

1billsfan replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One thing the Bills should consider is trading back for a next years 1st round pick which could then be used in a trade up scenario for a franchise QB in 2012 (assuming that they wouldn't be in the same high pick situation as they are this year, I know, big assumption). Call it an insurance plan.
