Oh please, you're going to try to pretend that Pouncey or Alualu were hands down BPA at #9 on Feb, 6th 2011??????????????? Give us all a break with ridiculous post draft revisionist history fella. Seriously, doesn't get any cheaper than that. Lock it in now Nostradamus, (fill in the blank) will be a better selection by the Buffalo Bills at #3 than either AJ Green or Patrick Peterson (assuming Nick Fairley is gone of course).
-
None of that "proves" anything. Larry Fitzgerald was one all-time Superbowl passing play away from winning a championship for one of the most losing franchises in NFL history. None of this provides any reason why the Bills should pass over Green (or Peterson) to select a much less talented player because of need. It's just useless information because when you are this high in the draft, your easy job is to select the "star" player over the "solid" player no matter what.
-
This sums up perfectly how I feel about the Bills' dilemma of picking BPA against need at #3. I see three players that are A types (Fairley, Green, Peterson) and the fall off to the next level of talent is too significant to not draft one of them if a trade is not in the cards. For the person who thinks that Peterson isn't close to being a "star" and has stiff hips, way wrong... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1632296 From the clips I've seen, the kid looks like the next Deion Sanders.
-
I look at the players not trends. Fairley, Green or Peterson will be stars at the next level. The drop off to the next level of talent is significant. The worst thing to do at the #3 spot is to draft for need and pass over one of these players. When you draft #3 you want to draft a superstar or someone very near to being one.

"Wannstedt Coached 'Em, and Against 'Em"
1billsfan replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Moats, we already have Von Miller on our team. -
You're not going to like this, but I'd even take Peterson over the front seven defensive players like Dareus, Bowers or Miller being discussed here at #3. I think the Bills are in a can't lose position with Fairley, Green or Peterson being there at our pick. We do have seven more picks to address need areas.

It's Green by a knockout! I looked at video of both players and Jones isn't even close to the player that Green is. Green is a day one starting #1 receiver in the NFL (who has a good chance of becoming elite in his first season), Jones is a #2 NFL receiver who will take some time to even earn his starting job. AJ Green http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1632070 "Hands: Unquestionably his best attribute. Long arms, big, soft hands and excellent body control to contort and make the highlight-reel catch, including seemingly impossible one-handed grabs. Rarely allows the ball into his pads, snatching the ball out of the air and securing it quickly when he is anticipating taking a bit hit. Has proven the ability to absorb a pop and maintain control." Julio Jones http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1623794 "Hands: Inconsistent. Drops too many passes due to a lack of concentration - usually when he's trying to make a defender miss before wrapping the ball up securely. Isn't a consistent "hands" catcher and allows too many passes into his pads, resulting in drops. Flashes the ability to extend and make the highlight-reel reception. Willing to run routes across the middle and take a big hit to make the catch." I'd be very surprised if there weren't a few teams wanting to trade into our spot if Green is still there. Green falling is the Bills lottery ticket. However, if the trade offers are lowball offers then the Bills should pick Green and draft heavy on defense with the rest of their picks. Remember, the second rounder will be first round immediate starter quality. I could see where if we get Green, a good starting ILB and a decent DE, and Merriman comes back to form, the Bills being a contender for the AFC East title.

You're talking about two teams that regularly draft at the bottom of the round. Apples and oranges. When you're drafting in the top 3, and there's a huge discrepancy between the talent levels of two player like Green and Dareus (or another fill in the blank player), you either draft Green or prepare to look foolish and regret the decision for the next decade.
-
If Green becomes the next Rice or Moss, and Dareus becomes what everyone thinks he'll become, a solid defense lineman...the Bills are the biggest losers. The NFL has become a passing league, having the best receiving core will do them much better than having an ok defensive line. Remember when two teams passed on Michael Jordan? This is the situation the Bills will be faced with if they pass on a player of Green's ability. They DO have seven more draft picks after the first round to address the defense.
-
Just because Detroit picked WR in the first round for three straight years doesn't mean that in 2011, the Bills should pick a much lower ranked defensive player over AJ Green. I see no correlation.
-
I'd be surprised if he isn't taken by either the Panthers or Broncos, but you never know. As it stands now, if one of those teams doesn't select either Fairley or Green, one of them falls and the choice for the Bills should be an easy one.
-
If you're in charge of selecting players this high in the draft and you're left with the decision to go for need player verses best player/superstar material, then yes you select the superstar player Green over much lesser talents in Dareus and Miller. I'll say it again, they will rue the day they select one of those guys over Green. My hope is that someone does want to trade with the Bills and give them an extra second rounder.
-
To me, Green has a much higher BPA rating over Peterson. I actually wouldn't mind the Bills selecting a couple CBs in the fourth. These would be my targets for the first five picks if we picked Green first... 1. Green 2. DE 3. ILB 4. CB 4. CB
-
I give him zero shot to be selected in his first ballet chance. I think if he's ever put in, it dilutes what the HOF is about since he was a very good back, not a great back.
-
What if Nick Fairley has been taken, AJ Green is still sitting there at #3 and no one wants to trade into the Bills pick? This is a major dilemma, for I think that the Bills will certainly rue the day they select marginal talents like Miller, Dareus or whomever over Green. If this scenario plays out I hope that the Bills select the BPA Green because of the bust (mediocre player) potential of all the other guys we would select over him. We already have a Von Miller type in Moats and we do have an early second round pick where there will certainly be a starting ILB for us.

Curtis Martin a lock for first ballot HOFer???? What the heck are you smokin'????? I don't even think he's a Hall of Famer to begin with. He was a stats compiler, not an all time great.
-
At least he seems to have the athleticism of a 3-4 DE. It's weird how he's not mentioned in that big group of first round D lineman because the guys got mad skills. Looks like better skills than a lot of those guys. Him and Sheppard (both LSU players) would look great on our defense.
-
The best player that nobody talks about is Drake Nevis... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htpcIDTOOcw&feature=related He looks just as good as Fairley in the clips I've watched of him. I don't see how a guy like this could last till our second pick, but he might be a great pickup in a trade back situation.

Kevin Kolb....What do you think?
1billsfan replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ryan Fitzpatrick is a much better Qb than Kevin Kolb. Maybe Kolb can eventually become as good as Fitzpatrick but that will take a few years. The Eagles run the best system offense in the league, where getting good performances from a QB is a given. So with that being said, exactly why would the Bills trade away their #3 overall pick for a QB who's not as good as the one they already have? -
Sorry, but a low ceiling isn't what you want with the 3rd overall pick. The Bills should be looking for either an impact player or a way to trade the pick for someone who wants Green if he falls to that pick. We are all pretty much going off of information from the draft experts, draft blogs and youtube clips. For the most part it's served us well when you consider the TSW majority wanted Orakpo over Maybin, Clady or Albert over McKelvin (and keeping Greer), and Ngata over Whitner. Dareus is simply not worth the 3rd pick overall. He should be around the 6th through 10th slot IMO.

Titans to interview Mularkey, Williams, Fewell

I'd pick Fewell hands down over those two knuckleheads. Fewell is going to end up being a very good head coach for someone. -
Why the Bills will go QB instead of DT @ pick # 3
1billsfan replied to Bill4Life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://blogs.nfl.com/2011/01/27/wilson-bills-wont-reach-for-qb-with-third-pick/ As for the one who suggested Kaepernick in the second, that's insane. IMO, you don't look at a QB that raw until the fourth. The Bills need to find 4 starters with the first three rounds (DE, LB, LB, CB). I hope the Bills look at either Kaepernick or Tyrod Tayor in the fifth. One of them should be there. -
Meaningless reasons or not, you're the only Dareus supporter willing to give him the "stud" rating. I would seriously draft Cameron Jordan before I'd draft Dareus. Jordan has the prototypical body for a 3-4 DE, he's got the blood lines (father was a six time pro bowler), and knocked the socks off the scouts with his play during senior bowl week. Dareus already looks like a DT starting out his career, IMO it's going to be very hard for a guy like him to stay a fit and trim weight for a 3-4 DE. Right now, my board goes Miller, Green and then probably Jordan over the boom/bust Bowers.
-
In order... 1. Green - will provide the biggest NFL impact to whoever chooses him. 2. Fairley - if he keeps his head on straight, will be the next big impact guy. Then there's the drop off to the guys who you hope will be making an impact... 3. Bowers - does he have the drive and passion? 4. Miller - does he have the size? 5. Peterson - is he really a safety? 6. Quinn - year off certainly won't help the impact factor. ...the hope thing follows after Quinn. Just get the feeling that there's your list of top impact guys (knowing full well that there will of course be big impact guys drafted much later than they should have been). As for this team, it's either Miller, Green or Bowers. The reason I don't have Dareus anywhere here is while I think he's going to be a solid line player, I don't think he'll be very special at the next level.
