Watt is the best 34 end in the draft
1billsfan replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure you'll let me know when I'm off your wavelength..LOL Unless you're an offensive lineman, I don't want to hear about drafting anybody in the Big Ten. Our team is full of these lightweights. -
The kid dominated college football last year. He reminds me a lot of Randall Cunningham. If you don't take him because it's a small sample then you run the risk of passing over a potential franchise QB. Which is more risky? Taking Newton or passing over him? When it comes down to the 3rd overall pick, it's go big or go home. If Newton's there, you almost have to take him if he's got that "greatness/game changing" potential. If they do take him, the Bills offense becomes less about the "classic" pocket passer and more about improvisation...like Cunningham, Flutie, even Rothlesberger to some degree. Think about this, if you were a defensive coordinator, who'd you rather face on a 3rd and goal at the 5 yard line? Newton or Gabbert? That factor alone gives Cam Newton a huge edge. Also, take a look at these interesting stats... http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/19015/by-the-numbers-newton-vs-gabbert

I like Taylor a lot (perfect for Gailey's system) and hope he's there for the Bills to pick in the 4th. I don't think Gabbert will ever become a better QB than what we have now with Fitzpatrick so I wouldn't even draft him. At least Taylor has the athleticism that's needed in a modern day NFL QB. I saw an interview with him on "First Take" a couple of days ago and he said that he's taller than Vick and Brees, so that's why I think taking a flyer and using a 4th on him is ok with me. So if we go defense with the first, don't be surprised if they target Taylor at some point.

Just say no to Big Ten defensive players. Please go to the SEC isle for them. -
I hear ya!...LOL It's weird, the more the "experts" hate on Newton, the more I'm liking him. If someone would believe that 14 out 15 (approx.) GMs are loving Blaine Gabbert over Cam Newton then they would believe pigs fly. That was both a strange and ridiculous statement made by Casserly and by making it, he's pretty much assured himself he will never become an NFL GM ever again.
-
Kiper turned in his QB evaluator card last year with the whole Jimmy Claussen man-love fiasco. Plus, I get the distinct feeling that there's a whole lot of NFL teams feeding falsified information to their former GM pundit buddies. On the NFL Network, Casserly said that out of more than ten and less than 20 current GMs that he's talked to (GMs that know he's going on the air with the info), only one has Newton over Gabbert! The funny thing is that Casserly actually believes them...LOL It's no wonder he doesn't have a job as a GM.

I just see the top rush OLBs being more Quinn's size.
-
I think the deal with Miller is that he's seen as a speed guy, where Quinn has the moves, size and strength package that all the top rushing OLBs have in the NFL. Today, I'd be happy if we got one of these guys...Newton, Fairley, Dareus, Quinn. If they took Peterson or Green, I'd just have to grin and bear it and feel they were avoiding a bust pick at all costs.
-
I was thinking about this today, Carolina has no 2nd round pick and there's a bunch of teams behind them that could fall in love with Newton so much so that even Miami could be in the mix to go after Newton in the number one slot! Could you image... I've never seen a draft with so much suspense in what will happen in the first part of the first round...LOL
-
If given a choice between Fairley and Peterson, I could see the Bills (not me necessarily) picking the sure fire player over the guy many question could lose all motivation when he starts getting paid. For some strange reason, defensive lineman in the top ten are just as hard to predict as QBs. There seems to be a high propensity of DLs who bust. Miller looks one dimensional with a big bust factor. I'd give Quinn as a possibility at #3, but that's a risky move taking him over a player like Peterson. This draft is already crazy! Too many players, too many scenarios.
-
I'm a big fan of Fitzpatrick, but even I'd have to seriously consider Cam Newton given his off the charts size, mobility, arm and incredible 2010 championship season. There's something electric about him and it would be the perfect situation since we do have a starter here for him to learn the game under. That being said, here's how I see the first three picks... 1. Newton/Panthers (I said it over a month ago and still stand by it) 2. Dareus/Broncos (Fox is the head coach...Dareus is the pick) 3. Peterson/Bills (I know it sucks, but too many questions on the other players being considered) If Newton and Dareus are off the board the Bills will be hoping someone wants the pick badly enough to give them another second rounder or a next year's first.

I'm Gaining Interest in Blaine Gabbert
1billsfan replied to WickedGame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh please, 90% of the comments on this board regarding college players are coming from people who haven't watched them play. We're all going off stats, articles, blogs and youtube clips. BTW, I have seen Newton play a few times and anybody who thinks Gabbert is a better QB than Newton should get their head examined based on "on the field" production alone. 16 TDs is a joke for a QB looking to be the #1 pick. That Gabbert article was a 100% fluff piece. I call BS. If he "out works" everybody then why the heck was he ranked 64th in the country in QB rating!…LOL Sorry if I upset you, but Gabbert's proclamation that he's outworking everybody is both arrogant and complete nonsense. BTW, If you're officially calling out people who haven't watched the players they like or dislike, then plan on it becoming a full time job. -
Evaluating too much on college performance
1billsfan replied to JPicc2114's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand that you like Gabbert enough for the Bills to take him at #3. However, Gabbert's 2010 rankings from the article linked below… QB Rating: 64th Yards/Game: 25th Yards/Attempt: 78th Completion %: 32nd TDs: 57th INTs: 41st Yards: 21st http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/2011/3/3/2027652/2011-draft-bust-blaine-gabbert To me, that looks like the stats of a 3rd round QB or below. The Panthers are smart enough to pick Newton over Gabbert (if QB is where they're going). Because Newton really does have eye popping physical tools/abilities and has proven it on the field in the hardest conference going. That's not to say Cam's a sure thing, but at least he has that #1 pick resume and highlight reel that Gabbert simply doesn't have. He keeps saying that he'll outwork everybody, but from the look of those rankings it seems like everybody's kicking his @ss in the "work" department. I'm done, I've given my arguments. The whole Gabbert being a top ten pick thing is crazy to me. No way do the Bills pick Gabbert. Newton's a different story, I could see them taking him. -

Exactly. Most of those "garbage" comments I made came from my take on a beyond ridiculous article on Blaine Gabbert, that had all of the substance of cotton candy. But with all the merging of threads going on, there's probably a lot of people here that didn't even read it. The funny thing is that whenever people sing his praises, they never seem to talk about his play on the field. BTW, I can find ten links to articles that says he sucks under pressure. Apparently there's a lot of "garbage" floating around this guy of which the Bills should just ignore and pick him because he's got pretty Tom Brady hair. -

Next time try reading the links I posted. I'm not making stuff up, I'm providing contrary opinions about Blaine Gabbert. BTW, it's a very good article. -

And I'm just trying to provide the other side that I was picking up on. Doesn't that article at least give you serious pause? It was very in depth and provided eye popping comparisons to Daniels and Bradford. I just don't think that Gabbert is even on the Bills' board at all. I do think that Newton is on their board and a possibility at #3. In the end, I see Panthers taking Newton, Bills taking Dareus and Gabbert going to the Bengals. If the Panthers pass on Newton, look out...LOL Nice deflection yourself, did you read that article? What did you think of it? -

So the CBS Sports draft guy is just making stuff up? Why would he do that? Just doing a simple google search on "Blaine Gabbert" and "bust" and you come up with articles like this guy who's a Missouri fan... http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/2011/3/3/2027652/2011-draft-bust-blaine-gabbert Yet he's being touted here as a guy we should pick at #3? We clearly aren't a team that's desperate enough to take a HUGE gamble on a low production QB like Gabbert who has so many question marks. The only QB to consider at #3 would be Cam Newton (I did watch four of his games last season). He's the only guy who looks like he has true franchise QB potential in this draft. -

Read the comments from your own Missouri fans... http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/33918/mailbag-questioning-blaine-gabbert Someone's glad he left so Franklin can play!...LOL They also have no idea how Blaine has ascended so fast and think that Ryan Mallett is the better pro prospect. So even Missouri fans divided on the ability of their own former QB that some are projecting as a #1 pick. That alone there scares the heck out of me. One thing you cant argue are these facts listed below... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/605635-2011-nfl-draft-why-cam-newton-has-a-brighter-nfl-future-than-blaine-gabbert Now I'm not officially a Newton for #3 guy, but I'd pick both Newton or Mallett before I'd pick Gabbert. He does have top ten hair though. Newsflash, there are VERY few college football gurus here on this board. We're all going off of articles, youtube clips, blogs and message boards. Sorry, I see the Gabbert hype train start on this board and it doesn't quite match up with what I've been reading about him. -

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1630777 Reading Defenses: Will take time to transition to the NFL because he runs the typical spread offense. Only reads one receiver on many plays, or even half of one side of the field. Stares down receivers and defenders read him easily. Does not look for secondary receivers, tends to take off instead. Fails to see blitzes coming consistently, even when they aren't disguised. No one even heard of Blaine Gabbert until Luck dropped out of the draft. I think this is just people wishing there were a franchise guy in this draft when there isn't. -

I heard he crumbles at the first sign of a pass rush, that he's not tough and that he is and always has been a catch and throw spread QB who always threw to the first read. Was this the case? Is there any video of this guy dropping back make a read, looking off the primary receiver and throwing the ball for a TD? Because until there's any video of this guy doing real NFL QB type work, I give him the "most likely to be the biggest bust of this draft" award. Brian Brohm came out of the spread program and could NEVER adjust to playing QB in the NFL. The I hear that Gabbert gets major jitters when he's being blitzed. Yikes, remember Losman's pocket presence!? The Bills will hopefully stay clear of him. He's shown nothing to warrant the top ten kind of press he's been getting. -
Yet another thread on draft thoughts, scenarios
1billsfan replied to tonyjustbcuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills don't draft Newton in the first (thinking he's a franchise QB), then they should just absolutely forget about trying to find their "franchise" QB of the future in this draft. Newton looks like the only one who has the chance to be. Kaepernick will take years before he could reach Fitzpatrick's level of play today. So to me, that's just throwing away a second round pick that could be used for a very good to great starting OG, DT, LB, OT. Again, the third round is probably better used for one of the other four positions I mentioned. If you're looking for a good QB prospect that fits Gailey's offensive style, then look at picking Tyrod Taylor somewhere in the fourth. -
Thanks for posting that, very Montana like! Guarantee you won't find video on Gabbert doing something like that...LOL
-
I wonder if he's part of "the plan" that Wanny was cryptically talking about. Use the first three rounds on defense and an O lineman, then pick up the best QB of the draft (for them) in the 4th round.

Not "everyone" feels that Fitzpatrick had a bad season. In fact, very few here would agree with your assessment. This just in, the NFL has just added "Meaningful TDs" to the official list of passing stats...LOL I love watching the verbal gymnastics you two are doing to try and prove a point that's not even in the realm of being credible. -
If I'm given a choice to select either Blaine Gabbert or Tyrod Taylor, I'm picking Taylor every day of the week. I actually hope the Bills do pick Taylor if he's there in the fourth. IMO, if Blaine Gabbert were black he'd be an afterthought and considered a middle round pick. So much of that guy is the so-called picture perfect image of the franchise QB.
