Very interesting take on the talent in this year's draft. I actually agree with this list… http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/NFL-prospect-tier-rankings.html Hopefully the Bills won't reach for anything beyond Tier 2.

What is the obsession with taking a QB in the draft?
1billsfan replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but draft a quarterback early does not automatically equate to that guy being an elite quarterback. There's only one potentially elite guy and that's Cam Newton. However by all accounts from the experts, he's a boom/bust type. Gabbert will probably end up being a decent starter, certainly not an elite guy. The rest of the QBs in this class are backups. So if you're talking about wanting an elite type guy, then it's Newton in the 1st round. Otherwise, forget about it. -
Best QB Prospects Using "The Parcells Rules"

Fun fact... Phil Simms never threw for more than 22 TDs in a season. Ryan Fitzpatrick had 23 TDs in 13 games last year. -
Pats ready to deal their 2nd, 1st round pick ?
1billsfan replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When you have such a mediocre league, then the difference of you being the team that has Tom Brady and the other being the one that doesn't is enormous. That Pats team is no longer capable of supporting a Matt Cassell-like backup QB and still win like they did a few years ago. They have become just like the Colts, a one man marching band. Granted that one man beats you almost every time, but both QBs are getting up there in years and who's to say that they won't choose their health over the love of the game and money in a couple of years. -
You do know that the biggest draft guru of them all Mel Kiper has Fairley rated higher, right? I think both players will be good enough to not be considered busts. Though I think Fairley will become the "star" of the two. That being said, I could see the Bills passing on both and taking one of about five other players...Peterson, Quinn, Miller, Newton, Gabbert.

Pats ready to deal their 2nd, 1st round pick ?

What part of "last several years" didn't you get...Richard Seymour?????...LOL I stand by what I said, they are fading due to bad drafts and the only one who's holding them up is Brady. -
I read that the Panthers are still seriously considering 7 guys for that #1 pick. I'm sure that the Bills are in the same boat. Peterson, Quinn, Miller, Dareus, Fairley, Gabbert, Newton, Green, Jones...that's 9 players I could see the Bills seriously consider picking at #3...LOL So in the end, it doesn't matter who we fans promote. The Bills have their plan and no bluster from any of us will change that plan.

Pats ready to deal their 2nd, 1st round pick ?

Due to poor drafting, Brady is the only one holding that rickety team together. Mayo, McCournty and the two TEs, that's it, that's all they got from the gazillion draft picks that the've had over the last several years. Yes, last year was a good draft for them, but the interior trenches of that team are fading fast. My hope is that Brady gets nicked up more and more and decides to call it an early career in a couple of years. Think about it, he probably does want a long and healthy life with Gisselle (SP?) after he's done playing. The longer these QBs go, the more decrepit they become at age 50 and above. -
Bowers is a medical risk, Dareus (over 300 LB man) self describes himself as someone who's not a workout warrior, Fairley is the only one I'd consider of the three you mentioned. However, the Bills would be foolish to not take the pass rushing monster that Quinn will end up being. If someone asked you if you wanted Jullius Peppers or a solid run stuffing lineman, what would your answer be? As much as you want the next Suh, he's not in this draft. Peppers is, they need to draft Robert Quinn.

He's not the only guy with integrity that we can pick. Let's pick the guy who'll be a game changer at the next level and who also has integrity.

Mocks From Differing Philosophies
1billsfan replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh please... Quinn vs Castonzo Crushes QB and forces a fumble on the second play, breaks up and almost intercepts a screen pass, on the last play he gets double teamed and still gets to the QB who throws a desperate pass which gets interception and returned to the 1 yard line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqJrjwjf55c Ba-dum-tish -
Mocks From Differing Philosophies

For the life of me, I just don't get this whole Bills drafting Von Miller thing over a true NFL stud sack crazy player in waiting Robert Quinn...Lawrence Taylor, Julius Peppers, Robert Quinn Not only does he sack the quarterback, he removes the ball from the QB's possession a lot! Please Astrobot, tell me why Von Miller is going to be better than Robert Quinn. IMO Quinn's game transitions, Miller's doesn't. Quinn Quote... “I don't really compare,” he said. “But people always tell me I'm ready to be the next Julius Peppers or DeMarcus Ware(notes). I always tell them, 'Why do I need to be the second of somebody else? Why can't I be the first Robert Quinn?' But I guess being compared to them two ain't so bad.” Sounds like a guy who's confident he's going to be something special. It doesn't sound boastful, it sounds inevitable. -
I'm almost glad the Bills don't have the #1 overall pick. There seems to be no clear cut guy this year. I really hope that Dareus gets picked at 1 or 2 because all this talk of people wanting him scares the heck out of me. I'd take him off the board based on the appearance of there being a lack of intelligence and maturity factor alone. At least Gabbert seems smart and is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, unlike Marcell "I'm not a workout warrior" Dareus.
-
IMO, the Bills would be gigantic idiots if they made that trade. Wilson, Houston and Bailey are going to be NFL nobodies. The Bills need to attempt to draft an impact player at #3 or get a whole lot more draft picks than that.
-
I totally disagree. To me, Marcel Dareus has that "Mike Williams" air about him. He seems very immature (that's not his fault it's just my impression watching his interviews). He says that his favorite thing is to watch cartoons, he admitted that he's not a workout warrior, he can barely speak coherently. I would much rather draft Cameron Jordan than to draft Dareus who I consider a huge risk when you have more mature young men on the board like Peterson, Green, Quinn, Miller. I just don't get the Dareus is a safe pick crowd. He's screaming bust to me. Maybe when he grows up in a few years he'll be a dominate player, but I don't see that happening for quite a while.
-
Well I lobbied for him, but the Bills obviously felt a complete overhaul in the coaching department was in order after the Jauron mess. I loved Fewell's energy and style. He's one of those new generation of coaches like Raheem Morris (who I was also lobbying for...LOL). This has to be Reid's last chance, after that many years it's almost a self fulfilling prophecy every year that you will lose a big game in the playoffs. Time for new blood if they disappoint yet again.
-
Actually, I read that Carolina's head coach and GM weren't even there...LOL Gabbert's game tape must really not be all that impressive if a team looking to draft Newton #1 overall doesn't even bother to go to his pro day. I really hope that this dinner with him is just smoke screen stuff.
-
I said that they won't ever win won with Andy Reid, not ever at all. They need to cut bait with Reid while they're still in the mix. You guys should hire Perry Fewell as your next head coach, he's going to be a good one.
-
I'm not offended in the least, so far I find him entertaining. I love the put on "concern" for our team, absolutely hilarious...LOL If I were doing the same for Eagle fans I'd tell them that they will never win a Superbowl with Andy Reid as their head coach. He's officially become the NFC version of Marty Shottenheimer.
-
Don't get too attached, the Bills are going to draft somebody at #3 who can formulate a sentence coherently.
-
Not worried about getting the 3rd pick????…LOL "thank you we see the logic the bills cant wait any longer they need a franchise qb now more than eve…well in my opinion here is an actual legitimate trade…philadelphia eagles receive: buffalo 3rd overall…buffalo receives: kevin kolb, 23rd pick, 2nd rounder, and a 5th" Dude you not only are full of you know what, you sound like a bad used car salesman. If only you'd have the gonads to admit that you hadn't even watched a Bills game last year and haven't a clue what our team needs are. You have your answer, we think that Kolb isn't as good, and will never be as good, of a QB as Fitzpatrick is right now. Peace.
-
Sorry, but Kolb isn't a better QB than Fitzpatrick. His production is the product of the west coast offense and his TD% last year was half that of Fitzpatrick's. Then there's the huge intelligence gap between the two players. Enough already, you're not getting our #3 pick.
-
What would Darues' reply be if you asked him who Don Beebe was?..."Uuuuuuh, uuuuuum...<crickets>"
-
Dude, you've got to be kidding me! Kevin Kolb isn't as good as you or the Eagles apparently think. Fitzpatrick made a huge leap in his performance last year. He's also a hundred times smarter than both Vick and Kolb combined. Kevin Kolb works well in the Andy Reid west coast system, that's it. You guys aren't going to get a 1st round pick from anybody for him, let alone the #3 overall!...LOL I happy with having Fitzpatrick as our QB next year. Dude threw a perfect pass that should have won that Steeler game and he'll probably end up with more TD passes than Vick in 2011. You can keep your backup west coast QB thank you very much.
-
He literally laughed at the workout warrior question, and this is the guy that some want as the #3 pick? I heard that his favorite thing to do is watch cartoons. Again #3 pick? Seriously? Dude can barely speak! In contrast, here's a video of a Quinn interview. This sounds like a man, not a big kid like Dareus... I think the Bills will be smart and pick a mature person like Quinn, Miller, Peterson or Green. Dareus strikes me as the defensive version of Mike Williams.
