I can't wait to watch the Orange Bowl tonight. EJ Manuel looks like a potential NFL star to me. Dude has the size, athletic ability, accuracy, arm strength. He plays QB the way the future of the NFL is going. Seems like he's a good guy. I have no idea why this guy is never discussed here or anywhere in the media. I'd have no problem picking him at #8 and letting him sit for a year to learn the pro game under someone like Vick.

I just don't think that Buffalo will be looking for a strong silent type head coach like Lovie Smith. After Gailey and Jauron, I think someone like Smith's style is too similar to those head coaches and they want bigger change this time around. I voted for Mike McCoy, but I'm very interested in the Syracuse head coach and Horton (who's name wasn't even listed).

[closed]Marrone? Horton?...here we go again

NFL head coaching jobs are meant for the young and hungry. There's a reason why there's never been a head coach who's won a Superbowl for two different frachises. Take a look at NFL history and it's always the young and hungry generation who own the league. Back in the 80s you had Gibbs, Parcells and Ditka. In the 90s you had Johnson, Cowher, Fisher, Shanahan. In the 2000s you had Thomlin, Payton, McCarthy. The Bills should be looking for that next guy who is ready to "own the league" so to speak. These two interviews would look like they're serious about finding the next great NFL head coach. -
Because the first report of who they were looking to interview for the head coaching position is Russ Grimm of all people. I've yet to hear any denials about the report so the Bills' PR department is either too slow to respond or the report is true. Either way it's not looking very promising. I'd much rather have Chan Gailey than Russ Grimm.
-
I checked out video of Greg Roman interviews and he seems like way too much of a low key guy to be a head coach. We don't need crazy emotion, but we also don't need another guy with a low key style like we had with Jauron and Gailey. The next guy must have some sort of pep to him. In those interviews I saw, that's not Greg Roman.
-
That you're so desperate you'd seriously consider Russ Grimm? When he graduated from college he didn't know the Redskins played in Washington DC.
-
He turned down an interview for an NFL head coaching job and look where his career path him led him three years later... as an offensive line coach for one of the worst lines in the league. So you're telling me that this is a smart man? That this man is head coaching material?
-
The Cardinals have one of the worst lines in the league. The Bills need to hire a smart man, Grimm is not a smart man.
-
Here's a fun "Russ Grimm" fact for y'all: When Russ Grimm was drafted by the Redskins he thought the Redskins played in the state of Washington, not Washington DC. Uhhh, I'd pass. Funny how it's leaked the Bears want Mike McCoy and it's leaked the Bills want Russ Grimm...LOL

Buffalo Bills fire Head Coach Chan Gailey
1billsfan replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just got done watching the Gailey statement. Wow, what a genuinely nice guy. Sincerely, good luck to you Chan. We'll be rooting for you too. -
Go and watch some interviews with McCoy and tell he he doesn't remind you of a cross between Tom Coughlin and Mike Shanahan. He's smart, tough, successful and ready to take the next step. He's the cream of the crop as head coaching candidates go. Cousins just watched RGIII make mince meat of the league and he has proven that he has no fear when pressed into action. He knows he belongs in this league and he knows that he's ready to become a franchise QB for the team bold enough to get him. Are either of these guys 100% certain? No. But I think they are worth taking a shot on in a bold move like they did with the Bennett trade years ago.
-
Go get Mike McCoy and go get Kirk Cousins. Whatever it takes. Be bold and get the best head coach and QB out there.

good measuring stick for Geno Smith
1billsfan replied to RCOHEN13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given his lackluster performance today, Geno Smith may actually be there when the Bills pick. This Chiefs board's enthusiasm went south quickly… http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=268134 I think the Bills may have received a big break with today's game and Smith looking underwhelming. I don't care about today, I would seriously consider drafting Smith on potential alone. Drafting a top ten QB is not as bad as it was in the old days when mistakes were magnified due to the money given to rookie QBs. Do what Washington did, draft Smith then another QB in the 3rd or 4th as insurance and a backup plan. -
A Da Ja Vue Comparison of 2 Great Coaches
1billsfan replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really like the suggestion of Marc Trestman as the Bills next head coach. I totally forgot about him. He does seem like the perfect fit for the Buffalo Bills and I'll bet there are a lot of coordinators/coaches out there who would love to work with him. He's been everywhere so I'm sure he could assemble a great coaching staff. Here's a Trestman interview... http://www.wralsport...7/#/vid11923779 And here's a book he's written with glowing reviews... http://www.amazon.co...k/dp/0978780930 I mentioned Mike McCoy in another thread, but Marc Trestman is a guy I could totally get behind as a smart, solid head coaching pick. He'd be invaluable for the Bills who will be picking a QB early in the 2013 draft. I'd trust his opinion over any GM out there. Then you get the added value of having the king of QB coaches to bring him along the right way. -
I just wanted to throw a name out there that hasn't been mentioned much. Mike McCoy the OC of the Denver Broncos just might be the head coach the Bills been looking for. I googled a few clips of him and he reminds me of a mix between Mike Shanahan and Tom Coughlin. I first heard his name mentioned by Sal Paolantonio on a philly sports station as a guy who's on many team's short list.
-
Running QBs have a shorter shelf life than the classic pocket passers. McNabb's game broke down right at the age that Vick is now, 32. Vick would be a temporary patch fix, till he either got hurt or a rookie QB was ready to play.
-
Cam Newton may have some personality issues. Is it serious? I don't know, but I think that this is what he was referring to. When you hear him talk in interviews, he seems like a nice enough guy. But there's an "undercurrent" thing going on. Seems like he could run hot and cold way too much for some people's liking.

Kyle Shanahan and Geno Smith = The perfect combo
1billsfan replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was listening to a philly sports station yesterday and they had Sal Paolantonio on and Sal said that two coordinators that were on a lot of short lists were Mike McCoy and Greg Roman. So I went to youtube to see what these two guys were like. Roman seemed like a monotone, sleepy, low key kind of a guy. That's what I don't want here after Jauron and Gailey. McCoy seemed like an alert, strong and determined guy with a "no BS, do your job or else" kind of a vibe. That's what I do want. -
Kyle Shanahan and Geno Smith = The perfect combo
1billsfan replied to SBUffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geno Smith is a pipe dream. I went to a Chiefs message board and there were 464 pages for the draft Geno Smith topic. They desperately need a QB and he's considered a top ten talent. -
I like EJ Manuel a whole lot. Even possibly better than Geno Smith. I don't think Glennon is close to the prospect that Manuel is because of the body size, athletic ability and accuracy he has over Glennon. I just finished watching Manuel's and Glennon's games vs Clemson this year and Manuel looks like a superb version of Russell Wilson. Glennon looked like the second coming of the lead-footed statue known as Drew Bledsoe. Manuel serious looks like Cam Newton to me. But this guy doesn't seem to have the personality issues. I just don't get why Manuel is not being touted as the best QB in this draft. I hope his stock doesn't rise and the Bills take him with their first pick. The sign Vick for a year and let Manuel sit and learn next season.

What Kind of QB Prospect Would You Pick?
1billsfan replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other than stats, what else do you have to go by? I seriously don't see any area where Glennon is better that Manuel. If Manuel is a very good QB with a great RB by his side, we have that with Spiller don't we? I hope that Glennon is a fast riser, so much so that KC takes Glennon #1 and the Bills can somehow trade up a few spots for Geno Smith. I'd love for the Bills to be able to draft him. -
What Kind of QB Prospect Would You Pick?
1billsfan replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get why Geno Smith is a highly coveted prospect. What I don't get is why guys like Glennon and Wilson are getting so much coverage here and in the "expert" media over EJ Manuel. EJ Manuel - solidly built, athletic, great arm, accurate 349 attempts 67.9% completions 22 passing TDs 3 rushing TDs, 284 rushing yards 157.6 QB rating 25 total TDs (passing/rushing) with 162 fewer passing attempts than Glennon. http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/380849/ej-manuel Mike Glennon - gangly, unathletic 6-6, great arm, innaccuarate 511 attempts, 57.7% completions 30 passing TDs 2 rushing TDs -144 rushing yards 131.6 QB rating 32 total TDs (passing/rushing) with 162 more passing attempts than Manuel. http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/381967/mike-glennon Soooooo, why is there all this talk of Glennon who is a QB pocket passing prospect dinosaur, when EJ Manuel has better numbers, body size and physical ability? Please someone explain this to me. Mel Kiper says that Glennon could be the first QB taken in the draft. I mean, I'm looking at the stats and the body types and playing styles and I'm completely mystified. In my book and from initial homework on this year's QBs, I have Geno Smith and EJ Manuel as the two "top ten overall" quality prospects this year at QB. I would not draft any of the other QBs in the first round. -
We shouldn't get Cousins because of the Rob Johnson mistake. We shouldn't draft QBs in the 1st because of the JP Losman mistake. We shouldn't draft QBs in the 2nd because of the Todd Collins mistake. We shouldn't draft a QB in the 3rd because of the Trent Edwards mistake. We shouldn't trade for a veteran QB because of the Drew Bledsoe mistake. Forget the "what if" excuses, trade for Cousins and the Bills' future looks mighty promising especially once Brady and Manning finally get off the stage.

The one, the only, Tebow thread
1billsfan replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not if you go by NFL "gut check" standards... Last season Tebow had 6 game winning drives (one more than in Fitz's 59 career starts) and 7 comebacks (matching Fitz's 59 career starts). We all cry about it's what you do on Sunday and how the Bills players rarely measure up on game day. Fitz had his chance, I'd rather give the ball to Tebow at this point if it was the choice between the two. -
The one, the only, Tebow thread
1billsfan replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They refused to use him in the offense that suits him. That's on the Jets, not Tebow. If you were a Bronco fan last year and they never went after a certain all-time HOF player named Peyton Manning, you'd have loved you some Tim Tebow. I think if Gailey completely geared the Bills offense for Tebow (remember he made "Slash"), the Bills could actually win big games with him and possibly get into the playoffs. This team is so desperate that I think they should in fact consider Tebow as their 2013 starter. One last thing, Gailey is not playing a rookie QB in his "money" year so the choices are slim for both him and the Bills. Do the Bills want to give Matt Flynn a long term contract knowing Gailey would be out the door if they suck again next year? Alex Smith? No way, they are not going to lock in long term on a veteran QB knowing that a new coach in 2014 might not like the guy they would be signing. It comes down to Vick or Tebow and Vick is seriously concussion prone. I'm not thrilled with Tebow, but I'm open to the one year experiment given the limited options this team has put upon itself by not drafting a QB.
