Senior Bowl Practice & Game Thread
1billsfan replied to Bangarang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a QB who had a worse Senior Bowl than Nassib in the history of the game. I know a lot of people here got attached to the dream of Marrone and Nassib saving this franchise. But consider what the odds would be of finding your franchises next great head coach and your next great franchise QB all on the same Big East Syracuse college football team and all in the same year no less. I found the prospect of drafting Nassib because we have his head coach kind of weird and creepy. We already have the fully "maxed out" Ryan Nassib QB talent level on this team and his name is Ryan Fitzpatrick. Their styles are VERY similar. If I were the Bills I wouldn't draft him until the 5th round when it no longer looks like we're helping out Marrone's kid and not doing what's in the best interests of the franchise. I can't imagine anyone seeing that game and thinking they still want him in round 2. -
Mock Draft Game -- January Edition, Round 1

What?! Did you not see how good EJ Manuel looked and how bad Ryan Nassib looked at the Senior Bowl? Nassib was clearly shaken and outmatched among the nations best rookie class. Manuel was the only QB who was calm and didn't spit the bit. Nassib shouldn't even be in the top 100 and Manuel should at least be in the top 25. IMO, he's the best QB of this class and is even better than Smith, Barkley and Wilson. -
I couldn't agree any more with what you just said. I'd be shocked if EJ Manuel wasn't very high on a lot of NFL draft boards. There will be a lot of disinformation about him because many would love for him to fall into their lap in the later part of the first round. Just look at what Kaepernick is doing. He's in the dang Superbowl and he's only had 9 starts! EJ Manuel is this year's Colin Kaepernick. While not as lightning fast, EJ is the same build, has the same athleticism and can do everything that he does. EJ Manuel is going to be drafted by a lucky team in the first round after two teams blow it by drafting Smith and Barkley who will become busts. My biggest fear is the Patriots drafting Manuel with their first round pick. They need a backup plan to the 35 year old Brady and Mallett is a sketchy plan at best.

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
1billsfan replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not after yesterday's game....LOL Seriously, there is no way any team can sell drafting Ryan Nassib in the first or second round. Those picks are for QBs who have "franchise" level potential. Nassib comes from an inferior conference and he crapped his pants playing against rookie NFL level players. Nassib looks like a back up QB at the next level and that makes his worth a 4th and more probably a 5th and beyond draft pick. The 1st through 3rd round draft picks are meant for starters only. -
LOL, EJ Manuel will not make it out of the first round. I could easily see a team that you'd have no idea were looking for a QB taking him in the back of the 1st round, the ones I came up with are...Bears, Vikings, Texans, Patriots. The NFL has become a league that begins and ends with the QB position. If there's a QB that has the all around size, athleticism and talents of EJ Manuel (very closely resembling Colin Kaepernick's) there for the taking and you have questions at QB but you're still a playoff quality team...well...let's just say that the "experts" seeing him as a 2nd or 3rd rounder will not see it coming. They're behind the times. I could easily see the Patriots taking EJ Manuel with their first round pick and blowing the "experts" mind with the genius of the move. Tom Brady is a 35 year old man who just built a mega castle in CA and who clearly seems to be only a year or two away from retirement. I know they have Mallett, but I don't think for a second they'll be betting the franchise on him alone.

No way, Napoleon Dynamite has a big arm and nothing else. EJ Manuel is the guy the Bills should definitely target. The guy is big, athletic, mature and has a great arm and throwing motion. Once Brady and Manning retire I'd see him as one of the top four QBs in the AFC with Luck, Flacco, Rothlesbeger being the other three. Jordan or Ansah at #8 then trade up into the 1st for Manuel. Possibly trade Jackson to Green Bay to flip our 2nd for their 1st. Then I'd sign Jason Campbell to be the transition QB. Forget Nassib, he sucks.

Mock Draft Game -- January Edition, Round 1

I could see Tampa Bay and/or Dallas picking a QB in the first. Tampa's coach has already hinted that he isn't into Freeman's level of dedication and Dallas' Jerry Jones would no doubt love to draft the Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson to create a major shake up in the franchise. Then there's New England who could possibly try to draft Brady's replacement without warning. Is Mallet really their guy of the future? This is a long shot prediction, but I wonder what their plans are post Brady. -
One More Reason to Hate Tom Brady
1billsfan replied to AC4 IN ATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looking at that place, I'm thinking Brady's on the back nine and heading for the clubhouse. When you see a place like that and how lucky and blessed your life must seem, you wonder if the mind starts telling you not to push your luck anymore playing QB in the NFL. -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
1billsfan replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't believe that Nassib will go in the first round. To me, his chances are pretty small. I think the only three QB first round draft picks are Smith, Barkley and Wilson (he doesn't make it past Dallas IMO). What the Bills' plan (if they really do want him specifically) is to probably trade up ahead of a team targeting Nassib at the beginning of the second round. Contradicting myself, he could make it into the very bottom of the first round in that scenario...LOL I think there's almost no way the Bills draft Ryan Nassib at #8. I just don't see any way of selling him going there and passing on REAL NFL talent. If they do go ahead and do that then I think it will be another disaster pick that sets this team back another three years. You want to know what I'm fearful of? I have this gut feeling the Jets are going to have the first pick overall in 2014 in a draft pack full of real "franchise" QBs. I wish the Bills could somehow swing a trade back in the first round this year to get their hands on a 2014 first round pick and even trade Fred Jackson for a 2014 pick as potential ammo for a "trade up for a franchise QB" situation. If Nassib really was a franchise QB do you think there would be so much debate on him at #8? I think he could become a good QB like Andy Dalton, but that's not good enough when your goal is to eventually win a Superbowl. BTW, I have no problem with them taking a flyer on Nassib with their second round pick. This team does desperately need QBs! -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

I honestly don't get the nervousness over the possibility of losing out on drafting Nassib by the Bills 2nd round pick. It seems as if you think he's a very special QB we must have. I've read a lot of articles and have seen his videos, I just don't see a special player there. I see a game manager. I see an Andy Dalton or Christian Ponder. I understand people getting attached to certain players, but I just do not understand the want to draft such a blah and average talent at #8. I've been checking out media tweets from the senior bowl and I think this guy nailed it on Nassib... https://twitter.com/dpbrugler @dpbrugler / Nassib reminds me a lot of a mix of Jake Locker and Colt McCoy. Good enough to start at the next level but the flaws are there @dpbrugler / Entering the season I gave #Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib an early to mid 2nd round rnd grade. After his SR season and SR Bowl wk, I stand by that There will no doubt be a player that has Nassib's abilities and maybe more in the 2nd round. I'm talking about Manuel, Jones, Bray, Dysart. So that's five (including Nassib) 2nd round quality QB prospect that the Bills will probably have their pick of at least three of them. Nassib simply doesn't have the ceiling near of what it will take to beat the elite QBs of the NFC in the Superbowl this next decade. You need special talents and he's just good at a lot of things while being master of none. -

One big negative thing I see about Glennon is that he simply doesn't seem to have that natural confident "leader of men" quality. I suggest to anyone thinking Glennon would be good for the Bills, just go to this link and watch both Wilson's and Glennon's interviews. There's a stark difference between the two. One seems like a confident leader and the other appears to be an unsure manchild.... http://www.youtube.c...V?feature=watch I'm warming up to Tyler Wilson. BTW, as far as teams looking for QBs in the first round, don't count out Tampa Bay (head coach doesn't like Freeman) and Dallas. Jerry Jones wants to shake things up, and you know he probably likes the Razorback's Wilson for obvious reasons. I could easily see Dallas taking Wilson in the first round. -

If they draft any QB not named Geno Smith or Barkley at #8, the Bills FO, head coach and the QB they picked will have a TON of pressure on them. Because everyone will know that they reached for a non-first round graded QB which the fans will be expecting franchise level first round QB play from. That would be a hugely risky move. Just wait to see who's there at the 2nd round pick with an eye on the QBs in the 2014 draft. Not only would I try to get a 2014 1st round pick by trading back this year, but I'd like to see what 2014 pick Green Bay would give up for Jackson. -
How best to use Spiller and Jackson?
1billsfan replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem with this is that if either Jackson or Spiller get hurt then you'd need two replacements with almost equal skills as good as the player who got hurt. Both are different runners and both would need a replacement back that could step in and have it still work. So I wouldn't hold my breath on the two back system. -

I think that finding the best guy out of this QB class is like hoping you're lucky and will get that last card you need for a straight in poker. There are about ten QBs in this class who all have faults and all have potential. Just reading the threads here will tell you that no one knows who will be the best one and who will be busts. I've been reading the twitter feeds of the draft media and they all have no idea. From the looks of it, maybe two out of the ten will become good to very good? The rest will become yet another bunch of forgettable QBs on the scrapheap of history. What the Bills need to do this year is... 1. Attempt to trade back for a 2014 1st round pick (as potential ammo and insurance for a trade up for a real franchise QB in 2014) then pick a QB with their 1st round pick if they want or wait till the 2nd or 3rd round to pick a QB. 2. If they can't trade back, pick the best player at #8. Then pick a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round, at least four of these guys will be there at their 2nd round pick. Two QBs will probably be there in the 3rd. 3. Or trade up from that 2nd round pick back into the first for a QB they really like and who they think will be a great one. Let the other teams be desperate enough to pass on great players and blow their first round picks on a QBs with 2nd and 3rd round grades. This class is ridiculously hard to pick. I have no problem waiting another year for the REAL guy. If they want to take a flyer in the 2nd then that's fine. Potentially blowing that pick won't be close to the pain of what blowing that #8 pick would be. -

Sadly I don't, I stumbled across it watching NFL Presents on ESPN2. The episode is "Sounds of the Season" which was obviously this past season since Mario was in it. -
Just saw Kyle Williams and Mario Williams on NFL Presents: "Sounds of the Season"... KW (w/ southern twang): "Let me see that towel Mario" MW: "I found it on the ground, I don't know if it's dirty" KW: "It don't matter, hell I don't care…I'm dirty, I got blood on me, I probably sh*t in my pants, it aint no big deal"

These media guys are desperate for QBs to talk up and you can tell that they have hurt feelings over Smith not going to the Senior Bowl. Any GM taking Glennon, Jones or Nassib over Geno Smith should have their head examined. Geno Smith has the combination of a real NFL arm and real NFL speed and athletic ability. While Smith's no where near the grade of an RGIII, he's clearly the best "franchise" QB prospect in this class. Nassib has a low ceiling and I'd be surprised if any team picks him in the first round. He looks like a 3rd or 4th round QB prospect to me. -
There's a lot of players I like at #8 and it's early on in the draft season so I'm still very open to who we pick there. But I've got to confess, if it comes down to having to pick between an evenly graded stud ILB or stud WR, I'm going stud WR...LOL I'm putting my "big money" there and not at the LB position.
-
This is a league hugely based on offense and I'd lean more to drafting a top WR like Patterson. I'd of course be happy drafting any of those defensive players as long as there's a very good chance they'll have a serious impact on defense and the game. The reason I like Jordan so much is the guy seems like a freak of nature type of player who would have a big impact in all phases of defense.

I find it very hard to believe that Marrone is looking for Andy Dalton II. I guess I've just written Nassib off based on the videos. That of course could turn around if he has an amazing senior bowl, combine and pro day. I just don't see that happening though. I'm really looking forward to seeing EJ Manuel. He's the guy I want them to take a flyer on in rd 2 or 3. -
