  1. I completely disagree with you here. The NFL is transitioning and the media and fans are lagging far behind the curve. Matt Scott has every chance to duplicate Russell Wilson's success. There are many more of these kind of running/throwing QBs coming out every year. It may get to be like the RB position where there are a whole lot of Russell Wilson types in the league. In a few years, it may no longer be seen as rare.
  2. Manuel - Size, speed, he's smart, he can avoid getting tackled and extend plays, a better than average arm, great personality. I see him having a Steve McNair type of franchise QB career. Scott - The more I watch his videos, the more he reminds me of Drew Brees. Great arm and release of the football. Ball comes out and fast. Scott's feet are fast as well, he beat Russell Wilson's cone drill times! He may need a year of seasoning, but he's a fighter. Dude almost got knocked out in the USC game, had a concussion, threw up, and still lead his team to a come from behind comeback win. Seems as if this kid is being overlooked by everybody except NFL scouts and personnel. I predict he won't get out of the second round. I think both these guys are not easily shaken, won't be intimidated at the next level, and have a better than decent chance of paying off for whoever drafts them.
  3. I'm probably in the minority here, but I kind of hope he gets picked before the Bills pick. I'm sorry, but I have a weird vibe about Geno Smith. He has this "downer" kind of personality. I can't describe it any other way. I honestly think he's a great kid, it's just that I'd worry about his personality type in regards to leadership. Also, why did his play suddenly wilt in the second half of his senior season? I wish Geno all the best, I'd just rather have Manuel or Scott.
  4. It's so crazy, it just might work.
  5. I don't know how raw you are when you make SEC DBs look like high school players in the open field. That kind of freakish talent shouldn't be ignored. If by poor in interviews means that he isn't that smart of a guy. I don't care. The only thing I would care about is if that was in combo of him not loving football. By the looks of his playing style, he loves football and he loves taking the ball to the house. While he is of course a "risk" pick, I think the Bills are in the desperate position of drafting the risky "homerun" pick of Patterson over the "solid" pick of a Lane Johnson. If the Bills hit on Patterson and somehow got lucky with their QB pick, they are Superbowl contenders. It's true, the AFC in not that great of a conference.
  6. Nix has been here for four years now. Time to start throwing some haymakers. The Bills are a desperate team. They need to hit a home run at #8 and hands down Patterson is the guy I would choose. Maybin displayed no where near the freakish talent on film that Patterson displays. The guy truly has "greatness" type of moves and with Stevie Johnson's tutelage, I can see him surpassing Andre Reed as the best Bills WR ever. If they hit on Patterson and the QB they choose with their second pick, the Bills are off to the races. They need to try to knock this draft out of the park.
  7. All this free agent talk is background noise. The reason this team and almost everybody in the bottom 10 is a complete mess is because of the QB position. Obviously it's fun to banter back and forth about who might be signed or who wasn't signed, but seriously, what difference does it make? The Bills need to hit on the "golden ticket" in this draft or next year's draft. Like the Niners did and like the Seahawks did. The Seahawks were kind of being laughed at this time last year. If Wilson never developed as fast as he did and they had to go with Flynn, that team would not have made the playoffs and would be looked at like an average club. So the #1, #2, #3 ect. most important thing to make this franchise successful again is to hit on the "golden ticket" franchise QB. BTW, I don't think Smith is the "golden ticket", I think Manuel and Scott are the possible "golden ticket" QBs I'd target in this draft.
  8. Forget Bey, the Bills should draft Patterson at #8. Having one of the best RBs and WRs in the NFL is a VERY good thing. Then draft either Manuel or Scott with the second pick and go best tight end with the 3rd rd pick. If the Bills get lucky (they're due, right?) and hit on the QB they pick like the Niners and Seahawks did...WOW, would our fortunes turn around rather quickly!
  9. How do you explain Kaepernick and Wilson's success then? They were two players taken in the second and third rounds respectively and they are among the most promising QBs in the NFL. There are two guys in this draft who fit the molds of of these QBs. They are EJ Manuel and Matt Scott. As for Geno Smith, the drawback with him is that theres signs he lacks the intestinal fortitude and will be one of those QBs taken high in the draft who will wilt under the pressure. He wilted in the second half of his senior season in college. I think that there is a potentially big bust factor with Geno Smith. EJ Manuel and Matt Scott both showed intestinal fortitude. Manuel played under the pressure of his mother having breast cancer and Scott was almost knocked out during the USC game, had a concussion, threw up, and still brought Arizona back in a comeback win. The Bills should either try to trade back or draft BPA at #8. Then pick either Manuel or Scott with their next pick. The backstop QB if both were gone would be to pick Tyler Wilson. My hope is Patterson at #8 and EJ Manuel or Matt Scott with the next pick. Neither QBs are sure things, but they are the two guys that have the Kaepernick/Wilson feel about them in this draft. If the guy we pick doesn't work out then draft a QB in the first or second round next year.
  10. There's no way the Bills are drafting Nassib unless he falls to the fourth or fifth round. I think the Nassib rumors are complete BS which the Bills are no doubt using as a smokescreen for the real guy they want (Smith, Manuel or Scott). The media loves the Marone/Nassib marriage storyline and they're lazy when it comes to this organization. Perfect conditions for a smokescreen.
  11. The Bills did say they were moving towards an analytics approach to personnel. Signing on for 8 million a year for an above average guard would seem to really go against that approach.
  12. As you know, I think that there are only three potential franchise QBs in this draft…Smith, Manuel and Scott. Matt Barkley, like Ryan Nassib, is much too slow of foot and unathletic to be anything but a good backup at the next level. NFL defenses will crush you if you have an average arm and you can't avoid a pass rush. I want the Bills to draft Cordarelle Patterson in the first and then trade up ahead of QB lacking teams for EJ Manuel or Matt Scott (whichever one is THE guy) for the second pick. Then you create the offense around the skills of these guys like what San Fran did with Kaepernick and Seattle did with Wilson. This is THE PLAN I am hoping for!
  13. I find these kind of rating systems interesting as well. However, they even recognize that their system has faults (See Colt McCoy and Brady Quinn). The one thing that should disqualify Ryan Nassib from this evaluation system is this... "The system is only meant to be used on players chosen in the first two days of the draft" I think Nassib has been the most over rated prospect by the mock drafters of the world. Other than Mayock who compared him to Andy Dalton, I can't find one draft expert who compares him to a starting NFL QB. So it stands to reason that he is backup material and therefore should be drafted on the third day. Gil Brandt has Nassib in his top five QBs in the class and he compares him to Colt McCoy. That's really not good! If Colt McCoy were in this draft he'd go where?...6th round? Two more things about this system... 1. How in the world did Nassib get more points than EJ Manuel? Given the parameters there should be no way Nassib grades higher. 2. How in the world does your 40 speed not factor in? They factored in the size measurables. Nassib ran a horrible 5.09 at the combine. Ever since then, the Nassib hype in the NFL draft media finally started to simmer down.
  14. That article is from November 23rd...it's ancient history. Please show us a current Eagle blog where they are loving them some Ryan Nassib...lol
  15. After hearing his glowing review of Matt Scott (Russell Wilson, Drew Brees comparisons), it's weird that Dysert was the first one being talked about in the segment...LOL
  16. This column was dated January 16th. Before Nassib's awful performance in the Senior Bowl and his not so great showing at the combine. It says that he runs a 4.70 forty yard dash when the reality is his 5.09 time at the combine. He was slower than 12 offensive lineman and everyone on defense who was not a defensive tackle at the combine. Now, how in the world can someone write "There isn’t a throw on the field that Nassib can’t make"… and immediately follow that statement with… "I came away very unimpressed with his ability to throw the deep ball. For someone with his arm speed, his throws vertically down the field lack accuracy and often fall short of the target." Nassib is a slow, short, unathletic QB who is simply not NFL starting material let alone franchise QB material. He can be tough and smart all he wants, he won't be able to get past his physical limitations. It's very hard to find any recent articles touting Nassib's as a future NFL franchise QB. Last night on the NFL channel, after they showed footage of Nassib's pro day, Mike Tannenbaum compared him to Matt Moore and Daniel Jeremiah compared him to Ryan Fitzpatrick. On NFL.com, Gil Brandt recently compared him to a taller Colt McCoy. On NFL radio, Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller think he's an awful QB prospect. So it's not just Bucky Brooks. Nassib's stock is falling. The QB that I think Bills fans should start to focus on is Matt Scott (also Smith and Manuel). That kid has it all. Better arm than Nassib, very fast, very athletic, just as competitive if not more so, better resume of teams he beat up on (Stanford, USC) in 2012. That's the guy who's stock is rising and will be drafted ahead of Ryan Nassib. If we're lucky, hopefully by the Bills.
  17. As per San Jose Bills Fan's link, there are reportedly seven teams interested in Matt Scott...Arizona, Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington, Buffalo, Jacksonsville and San Diego. I count two for Ryan Nassib..Buffalo and the New York Jets. I still stand by my initial reaction to the video of Scott ripping up Stanford's defense, and it seems his rise up the draft board backs up that reaction. If the Bills don't take Matt Scott in the 2nd round, there's a very good chance he'll be gone before their 3rd round pick. This is major news IMO.
  18. "When the day was done a number of coaches were of the opinion Scott could actually sneak into the late part of round two." http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=6811 I know there are many posters here who have ignored Matt Scott being picked by the Buffalo Bills as a viable "franchise QB" option this coming draft. However after blowing up his pro day (see the links above by other posters), some of these fans who have ignored him had better start coming to realization that he will be picked ahead of Ryan Nassib. It's funny to me how the "Ryan Nassib" thread has 39 pages and 60,000 views and this thread has a paltry 4 pages and less than 4,000 views, however Ryan Nassib is simply not a viable option for the Bills who are in pursuit of a true franchise QB. Matt Scott is that kind of a player, and until now he's been by far the most under rated player this draft season. He has the entire package, the ability to throw, AND has speed AND has athleticism, AND is very competitive. I think guys like Barkley and Nassib are "old school" facades for what's really going on in the background. Teams want QBs like Smith, Manuel or Scott. Where they go is obviously a mystery. But there it is, someone has projected Matt Scott as possibly going in the 2nd round! This is something Bills fans should start paying close attention to.
  19. I wouldn't say it's unlikely at all. I could see Arians following the Colts lead. They drafted a left tackle two seasons ago and were in position to draft a QB without having him killed. Now, we all know that Arizona has the worst OL in the league. There will probably be a LT worth taking at #7 out of Joekle, Fischer or Johnson. I can definitely see Arians drafting his LT with an eye on big QBs like Manuel or Glennon with either second pick or trading up a few spots.
  20. Tannenbaum's an idiot, there's no more three to five year development plan for the QBs drafted in the first three rounds. Just look at the success of last years's class. Also, you can't develop speed and athleticism. Nassib looks great when no one is chasing him down. Tannenbaum is clueless.
  21. I honestly think that there are only three possible franchise QBs in this draft...Smith, Manuel and Scott. I'm vary wary of Smith being a head case in that he doesn't have the outgoing personality you kind of need for the job. I won't be crushed if he's picked at #8, I just worry about him being able to handle that kind of pressure. I really like Manuel so I'd be ok with taking him in round 2 if he were there. All of the other QBs have fatal flaws which will prevent them from ever becoming legitimate starters IMO. Doug Marrone coached on a Saints team that had Drew Brees. I think that Scott has Drew Brees-like potential. He's fast, mobile, accurate and competitive. There was a lot of buzz at the combine that Scott possesses exactly what NFL teams are looking for in their modern QB. They say that he's going to be drafted a lot higher than expected. If the Bills don't pick him I see him going to either the 49ers in the 3rd or the Jags first overall pick in the fourth. If Scott is a legitimate "sleeper" franchise QB and the Bills get him, then this team could compete with the 49ers in the Superbowl with all of that firepower on offense. Heck, maybe even Tavaris Jackson can get this team to the big dance with Patterson, Johnson, Spiller, McDonald, Jackson and Graham...LOL
  22. 1. Cordarrelle Patterson WR 2. Johnthan Banks CB (or Darius Slay CB) 3. Vance McDonald TE 3. Matt Scott QB (trade up to back of 3rd round ahead of 49ers and Jaguars) I think C. Patterson will be an NFL superstar. He isn't a bright bulb by any means, but that didn't stop Randy Moss from becoming an all-time NFL great WR. Getting Banks or Slay is the right need/value at the 2nd rd pick. That tight end McDonald is one more weapon for the assembling of the next great "greatest show" NFL offense. I think Matt Scott is the hidden gem of this year's QBs. Dude is fast, can wing it and is very competitive. Just ask Stanford and USC, two big time college programs that he torched. He may need a year of seasoning, but my hope is the Bills somehow get him and he becomes this year's Russell Wilson.
  23. I guess Nassib can thank his lucky stars that the NFL scouts never saw him look shell shocked against college seniors in that game. It's not like the game was televised or anything.
  24. Understanding that you're not a big Barkley fan which I'm clearly not, it's interesting that you picked the Stanford game to show a possible positive aspect of Barkley. While I appreciate that the guy took his beating like a man, I think that game shows exactly why he will be a huge bust. Barkley will get killed in the NFL because he simply is not fast nor athletic enough for that level. I'd be shocked if NFL teams were as high on him as the NFL media and mock draft experts are. Let's compare the play in the Stanford games of Matt Barkley to Matt Scott who while he's a raw prospect, actually does have the speed and athletic ability to become a real starting NFL QB and possibly a star... Matt Barkley vs Stanford - 20/41 254 0 TDs 2 INTs USC scored 14 Pts Matt Scott vs Stanford - 45/69 491 3 TDs 1 INT Arizona scored 48 Pts
  25. You're probably right on with this thinking. Barkley had -113 yards rushing in his four year career. That right there tells me he has feet of stone and this is at the collegiate level, can you imagine what very fast NFL defenders will do to him? I think Barkley free falls to the end of the 1st round (someone trades up) and possibly into the second round. I refuse to believe that modern NFL evaluators think that a slow QB is worthy of a high first round pick. This isn't the 70s, 80s or even 90s. You need to actually have some speed to run away from very fast people in the modern NFL if you're a QB. BTW, if you bring up Joe Flacco, he probably runs the 40 yard dash a half second faster than Barkley. I can't wait for that 40 time at Barkley's pro day...LOL
